Maley, I was asked not to release any information until they had announced it, now they have I can give you the whole story :

The end of last week Nasser notice a large lump round the groin area, quite rightly I went to the doctor with him, on examination the doctor found several other lumps coming up, he relayed to us that 99% it was not Cancer, but was sure it was swollen glands, I asked can we go ahead with the fight he said yes, as long as the condition does not deteriate and told Nas to take anti imflams, then he sent us to the Hospital for blood tests, we then continued to train for the fight and sparred with Ryan Aston, Nas sparred well but was not as explosive as in previous spars, after the spar he revealed to me that the swellings had hurt bad when he was hit to the body in sparring and had now noticed they had got bigger and more painful, I said it's best to stop the fight, but he insisted he wanted to still fight, that it was a great opportunity for him, I said the best thing is if we go back to the doctor the next day, the blood tests should be back and we can make a decision then, but the next day Nasser came down with virus as well, the Doctor made an appointment for us, he did not know when the swellings would go down or the virus cease, so I contacted the promoters to ask for the fight to be put back a few weeks, they were unable to do this, as they had no spots available, so the fight was called off, nas has since gone back to the doctor and the hospital and they are now undergoing more tests, I hope to God it is not Glandular fever, because that can stay with you for a long time and can come back again and again, all I know is that Nasser wanted to fight and was prepared to fight through the pain barrier, but his health is more important then boxing so he can have the first rest he has had for a long time, Inshallah I hope he recovers quickly. The Doctor has sent a report to the promoters. I have sympathy for Frankie Gavin as well, because having your opponenent pull out for a big fight is heart breaking, as we have experienced many times before, but when boxers train really hard for fights, for long periods and diet, something has to give, the hype for the fight is over so we wish Frankie all the best for hiis next fight and sucess.

Thanks mate, when Frankie wins the British maybe he can make Nas his first defense, but the first step is to get Nas better.

Firstly, I hope that your son makes a full and speedy recovery.

If this problem was noticed a week ago, then why on earth have you spent the whole week on this forum spouting your shite when you knew full well that the fight was at least in doubt?

You have now made yourself to look even more of an idiot.

Hopefully if Gavin wins a world title then you will give him the opportunity of defending it in front of your 55,000 fans :D

No Nasser is not the type of person who gets nerves, stressed out or suffers from anxiety as one of my earlier post signifies, maybe a bit of nerves would be good actually, to feed the fire, as they say, Doctor said no reason it can happen to anyone, but he did say boxers who train hard can be open to such things, in fact I have spoke to people in the industry and this sickness is quite common amongst boxers, some recover quickly, some it takes a long time, lets hope this goes away as quickly as posible or it could be damaging to Nasser's career.

With such an articulate and well reasoned argument I cannot fail to come round to your way of thinking.

Please save one of the 55,000 seats for me when the Mayweather fights comes off.

To be honest i thought being mentioned as Frankie Gavins opponent would get Nassers name out there to people who didnt know him&the pull out was all part of that plan... As you say the promoters have got doctors letters etc,so who am i to disagree..The doctor isnt from the Yeman is he??
If Genuine i wish your lad a speedy recovery&lets hope this fight can happen in Birmingham down the line :TU:

Believe me Tommy Gunn training very hard 3 times a day and dieting for weeks and then pulling out would not be part of our plan, but thanks anyway for the best wishes.

Article From Boxrec:

Frankie Gavin v Nasser Al Harbi off
Saturday's proposed fight between unbeaten Birmingham rivals Frankie Gavin and Nasser Al Harbi is off.

Al Harbi has an unspecified medical complaint.

Both men engaged in a war of words on BoxRec News last week and the forum has been alight with a back-and-forth between supporters of the pair.

Don't want to be a pedant but surely this should be in the singular regarding Al Harbi?
