wallisch was a decent enough novice ...but it could be argued greg toney is a well seasoned and probably better opponent

when i sparred kell brook he was sparring some top guys

he is possibly the best heavyweight in britan

definatly outside the main 4 of haye chisora fury and price

only those 4 can beat him now

in future he will be as good

will lack certain skills from experience

but boxing skill alone he is good

For once I somewhat agree with Palimpsest

However, I would not say that Towers has little ability or that he is 'cack'. I just don't think he will go far. Every time I have watched him live I have not been impressed at all. Technically he has flaws, he doesn't punch as hard as his record suggests, he isn't particularly fast and is rather robotic. Nevertheless he does keep himself in good shape and that's quite rare in the heavyweight scene these days.

I hope he proves me wrong.

I would have to take your word for that. No doubt he does punch hard but I believe that Haye and Price punch a lot harder. He is definitely improving with more experience and maybe his one punch power will be more evident with improved technique.

Needs to tighten up on his defence, that's for sure. But he's a decent addition to the domestic heavies. Moves better than the Law describes, IMO.

(Also let us not forget; Haye had yet to go the distance in any fight prior to meeting Abdoul so he did 'box to instructions' Towers however had already experienced going the full distance against Woollas and Daley, the Woollas fight particularly alarming as this man had no less than TWENTY stoppage defeats on his record)

First of all, i should declare an interest here and say that (like Ian) I know Richard personally and am in fact a good friend of his. So i am biased.

That said, here is my view.

Going the distance against Abdoul is not a negative. It is routine. That is a simple fact.

Richard does box his way carefully through bouts and it is absolutely true that Dom doesn't want him to just go out and try and flatten everyone in round one. He has almost zero amateur experience and, as has happened again, he has trouble getting fights because he's dangerous and a big puncher. They need to get as much as possible from every single bout.

My next point is not fact, it is interpretation and opinion - i don't think Richard is robotic at all. I think he moves very smoothly for a guy of his size and is very athletic.

Hard to understand why people are already thinking it's clever to slag him off. He's a humble guy who works damned hard at his trade. He's paid his dues to make a successful, honest career and he's learning fast. He never shouts about winning world titles or calls anyone out; he just goes about his business.

I think Rich will do very well in his career and could easily win the British title and after that who knows?
