Towers fight ..wallisch out...Greg Toney in
dont know what happened to Wallisch but credit to Towers team for getting greg toney.
wallisch was a decent enough novice ...but it could be argued greg toney is a well seasoned and probably better opponent

when i sparred kell brook he was sparring some top guys
he is possibly the best heavyweight in britan
definatly outside the main 4 of haye chisora fury and price
only those 4 can beat him now
in future he will be as good
will lack certain skills from experience
but boxing skill alone he is good

Ill be amazed if this goes past 4rounds. A combination of Towers power and Toneys chin means it wont go long.

For once I somewhat agree with Palimpsestdondada wrote:Hmmm. Go on then...tell us why he's cack then.Palimpsest wrote:And ability.funso banjo baby wrote:i hope people arent placing too much hope in Towers

However, I would not say that Towers has little ability or that he is 'cack'. I just don't think he will go far. Every time I have watched him live I have not been impressed at all. Technically he has flaws, he doesn't punch as hard as his record suggests, he isn't particularly fast and is rather robotic. Nevertheless he does keep himself in good shape and that's quite rare in the heavyweight scene these days.
I hope he proves me wrong.

I would have to take your word for that. No doubt he does punch hard but I believe that Haye and Price punch a lot harder. He is definitely improving with more experience and maybe his one punch power will be more evident with improved technique.Greavesy wrote:The Law wrote:For once I somewhat agree with Palimpsestdondada wrote: Hmmm. Needs to tighten up on his defence, that's for sure. But he's a decent addition to the domestic heavies. Moves better than the Law describes, IMO.Palimpsest wrote:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wXcvNobd5DYdondada wrote:Hmmm. Go on then...tell us why he's cack then.Palimpsest wrote: And ability.

He looks okay knocking over tubby Latvian dwarves (see YouTube clip) but he barely made a dent against CRUISERWEIGHT Ismail Abdoul.

In fairness neither did Haye or Enzo Macrinelli. And I'm sure Haye punches much harder and faster than Towers.Palimpsest wrote:He looks okay knocking over tubby Latvian dwarves (see YouTube clip) but he barely made a dent against CRUISERWEIGHT Ismail Abdoul.

Not sure how anybody could moan about this match-up, It looks a good test and is on a very good bill.

No one does. As has been said, neither did Haye. And both Towers and Haye boxed to instructions against Abdoul, which was to get the rounds in.

(Also let us not forget; Haye had yet to go the distance in any fight prior to meeting Abdoul so he did 'box to instructions' Towers however had already experienced going the full distance against Woollas and Daley, the Woollas fight particularly alarming as this man had no less than TWENTY stoppage defeats on his record)
Re: Towers fight ..wallisch out...Greg Toney in
Risible? 'Twas you using the unconvincing example of Towers not stopping Abdoul to support your point in the first place. Mike Perez, who also outweighed him by a couple of stone and went on to smash a couple of lads early in Prizefighter, didn't make a dent in Abdoul either. Not stopping Abdoul is no kind of benchmark to set, in my opinion.Palimpsest wrote:Never mind yourdondada wrote:Palimpsest wrote:He looks okay knocking over tubby Latvian dwarves (see YouTube clip) but he barely made a dent against CRUISERWEIGHT Ismail Abdoul.![]()

Abdoul was five years older when he met Towers, he was outweighed by almost two stones and giving away nine inches in height.

All I can tell you is what I know - that in several of his fights, Towers has been told to get the rounds in and not go for the stoppage. This is because of his lack of amateur experience so they're trying to make use of every fight he has in that respect.
Every time I've seen him be told to 'up' his game, he's gone out and stopped the lad shortly after. Hey, he might be no good, you could be right. I think he'll do OK, domestically anyway (which doesn't take much these days, admittedly). He could go a bit further. Would be good to see him against Matt Skelton.

1. Perhaps Perez was 'boxing to instructions' too (it seems popular)dondada wrote:Risible? 2. Please anyone but Skelton, on a thread yesterday they were going on about Harrison v Skelton, I don't want to see that fat, hairy, moon faced, grunting, mauling, mediocrity in a fight of any significance AGAIN. How about Zack Page for Towers, would it be another Tom Dallas like exposure I wonder?
3. It's a pity he's lost his way somewhat because a Dallas V Towers fight would have been a hoot, imagine a meeting between the two most robotic fighters in British boxing!!
Re: Towers fight ..wallisch out...Greg Toney in
Aye, perhaps Perez was. And every other fighter (bar one) that Abdoul has faced.Palimpsest wrote:

I like Matt 'Lumberjack' Skelton, in some respects. Tom 'Piece of Wood' Dallas would indeed have been interesting a little while ago.

Do you remember poor Enzo looking bewildered and confused when Abdoul withstood his mighty blows.
Re: Towers fight ..wallisch out...Greg Toney in
First of all, i should declare an interest here and say that (like Ian) I know Richard personally and am in fact a good friend of his. So i am biased.
That said, here is my view.
Going the distance against Abdoul is not a negative. It is routine. That is a simple fact.
Richard does box his way carefully through bouts and it is absolutely true that Dom doesn't want him to just go out and try and flatten everyone in round one. He has almost zero amateur experience and, as has happened again, he has trouble getting fights because he's dangerous and a big puncher. They need to get as much as possible from every single bout.
My next point is not fact, it is interpretation and opinion - i don't think Richard is robotic at all. I think he moves very smoothly for a guy of his size and is very athletic.
Hard to understand why people are already thinking it's clever to slag him off. He's a humble guy who works damned hard at his trade. He's paid his dues to make a successful, honest career and he's learning fast. He never shouts about winning world titles or calls anyone out; he just goes about his business.
I think Rich will do very well in his career and could easily win the British title and after that who knows?

I'm really surprised for one at all the comments (or lack of them, I bumped an existing thread on Towers and noone commented...)
From what I've seen of him, this guy looks potentially better than Fury...
