Re: Police came around in early hours all cos of Jim Watt
The worse thing about him talking over Froch's entrance at the weekend was that you couldnt really telll how loud the arena was getting whereas the BBC 5Live commentary didnt say anything so you could hear the entrance alot better.
Re: Police came around in early hours all cos of Jim Watt
This is my EXACT thoughts and was what I was saying on the night. There I am wanting to enjoy the ring entrances, hear the crowd and get in the mood for the fight and in the background (foreground more like) is this whiny Scottish tool just talking non-stop.mugabi wrote:ANOTHER BIG FIGHT ENTRANCE, BIG FIGHT ATMOSPHERE RUINED BY JIM WATT.
FROCHS ENTRANCE TO "NO EASY WAY OUT" WAS ELECTRIFYING AS WAS THE CROWD HEAT/REACTION AND OVERALL ATMOSPHERE.......SO WHAT DOES THE VIEWER AT HOME GET INSTEAD OF BEING ABLE TO ENJOY ALL THAT?.........WHAT WE GET IS JIM WATT ONCE AGAIN SEEING IT AS HIS JOB TO SHOUT/WHINE/MOAN/RESTATE THE BLEEDING OBVIOUS OVER THE ENTIRE FIGHT ENTRANCE FROM START TO FINISH LIKE A WHINING DRONING MACHINE....IM SURE THERE MUST HAVE BEEN A FEW PEOPLE WHO COMMITTED SUICIDE LAST NIGHT HEARING WATT WHINE OVER THE ENTIRE FIGHT RING WALK
Jim Watt, it's time to go mate, either shut the fook up or leave Sky. I think it's probably time he went if I'm honest, let some new men in, the Jamie Moore types etc, younger men who make the presenting more current and who basically aren't as annoying.
Re: Police came around in early hours all cos of Jim Watt
Commentators in general are idiots, paid to use cliches and general waffle though none of them know what they're on about.

Jim Watt is just so negative, and Johnny nelson doesnt seem to be serious its all tongue in cheek banter, They certainly wouldnt be missed if sky got rid of them.
Jamie Moore, and Richie Woodall, would do a far better job

Believe you me they would do better. Jim Watt's commentary was a piece of nonsense, Ian.Matt Teague wrote:Jim Watt is just so negative, and Johnny nelson doesnt seem to be serious its all tongue in cheek banter, They certainly wouldnt be missed if sky got rid of them.

Exactly. The music really summed up Frochs life and career at this point full stop. The music was electrifying as was the crowd noise but it was all dimmed down so we could hear the rabid scot whine on from start to finish.smoggy7188 wrote:The worse thing about him talking over Froch's entrance at the weekend was that you couldnt really telll how loud the arena was getting whereas the BBC 5Live commentary didnt say anything so you could hear the entrance alot better.
Can Robinson see this thread and ask something is done. It really is getting ridiculous the lack of proffesionalism and consideration for the viewer at home by Adam Smith and the editorial team. In Germany when the Klitchkos make an entrance the commentators go quiet so we can enjoy it.

Jim got his commentary spot on the night though. Watching it live, I was "going calm down Jim your over reacting.... Bute isn't hurt "(after the first round)... how wrong was I.
Jim is invariably asked questions by the anchor during the ring walk - whats he supposed to say "I cannot talk now Darke, I'm enjoying the entrance" - Jim is probably given instructions to fill at that period, and to shut up with the MC talks (even if it isn't in English).
They do the same in the states also.

Haha that's exactly what I thought when Froch caught him with the left in the first. I even said it in the RBR thread I think, then in the replay between rounds I was like 'jesus he did jar his head back with a left too!'stujones wrote:Jim got his commentary spot on the night though. Ian Darke spoke all over Hopkins entrance v Eastman, informing the casual fan why he'd chosen My Way by Sinatra. Because there were literally 4 casual fans in that audience on embryonic Setanta(?) at 5am.
Just shut up and let the drama unfold.

Re: Police came around in early hours all cos of Jim Watt
I agree re the rigwalk but I have to say I love Watt commentating and think he added to the excitement of the fight -
"The left hook caught him BANG on the chin!"
"He's HERT Ian...Bute's HERT!"
"He's got him!"
Loved it and think he and Darke are a great combo.

Agreed. Personally I think Darke is top notch and works very well with Jim Watt. Was a big critice of Watt's a while back but I think he's got better (or I've become more accepting).
I do agree about the ring walk though, after having been there live that was pretty special so when watching it back was a bit disapointed with how it came across on the telly. But the commentary during the fight I thought was very good and just showed the excitment they were experiencing was just the same as us in the crowd.
Re: Police came around in early hours all cos of Jim Watt
I dont have any problem with Watt as a commentator , although there too he moans a little too much sometimes, and in the past his strength was his impartial views but recently he is getting carried away towing the sky line.
The ring walk whining though is insane and if Sky arent aware of how bad it is, they need to fire whoever on production allows it. Again Ill ask can Ed Robinson make a note of this

Re: Police came around in early hours all cos of Jim Watt
the whole idea of the ring walk has got way out of hand. dont know about the rest of you , but i just want to see top class action within the ropes. all this crap in germany with heavy metal bands playing sets, the excess and buffoonery of hameds pre fight antics, duff national anthems , kid on bodyguards etc.....just a load of shite really. i want to see boxing, not the x factor.
ps jim watt is a top commentator, honest , no bull shit , and a good man to boot

Amen to the OP
Stfu you kill the mood of the epic battle between two men trying to be the best or at least the better man that night.
Re: Police came around in early hours all cos of Jim Watt
Id agree in that i dont like rock bands/hip hop bands, hamed style flying carpet crap, national anthems . etc... but the klitchko brothers entrances such as the haye-wlad one encorporate pageantry, a sense of history (foreman and smoking joe featured, tributes to ali, etc) with style and class. Likewise a Haye entrance can be stylish if u dont have some mad man whining and moaning in OCD fashion non stop like a rabid moanmachine as is Watts custom on such occasions such as Saturday. Frochs entrance was minimalistic the music his walk, the occasion and crowd was all we needed to see/hear not watt whining non stop.jimcook wrote:the whole idea of the ring walk has got way out of hand. dont know about the rest of you , but i just want to see top class action within the ropes. all this crap in germany with heavy metal bands playing sets, the excess and buffoonery of hameds pre fight antics, duff national anthems , kid on bodyguards etc.....just a load of shite really. i want to see boxing, not the x factor.

Yeah, I hate it when commentators talk during the ring entrance and also in between rounds when we are trying to hear the cornermen. However, Jim Watt is the best British commentator out there by a mile, he will be badly missed when he does retire. There is no one else I would rather have calling a big British fight that Jim Watt - a legend.

Prefer a moaner to a sugar-coater…
The Ring entrance? Who gives a sh1t… I’m a grown up. I’ve got an 11 year-old who’s had his fill of pantomimes.
Watt is a great commentator.

I despise watt as a commentator, some fighter and a real gentleman but his commentary is moaning self praise for predicting the fight correctly at the outset..... Even if he doesn't
Please just stick to mccrory and darke

The only good commentator is a silent commentator.
Re: Police came around in early hours all cos of Jim Watt
Watt's mouth often fools the eyes of boxing fans who don't know any better.
Like I've said, Watt will occasionally bring an excited and optimistic attitude into the fight, thus elevating the atmosphere. But too often he will just sh*t all over the British fighter, moaning about defence, game plan - even if he wins in Brutal fashion ( Froch vs Magee great example).
The only people worse are people who gush about their favorite fighter from start to end.
Like the HBO international commentator for Mayweather vs Cotto. An appalling hero-worship from start to finish.
It was only surpassed by Duke McKenzie, whom sat with a box of tissues and some hand lotion as he groaned and moaned over the 'amazing' Lucian Bute, who was boxing Glen Johnson. Mckenzies ejaculation at the final bell was both gross and disturbing, leaving the mental image of a splattered tv screen and steamy glasses in one's mind.

Jim's commentary was great last week, best I've heard from him in a while.
