The trouble with this 'masters boxing' idea is that you have ageining, past their best, and not neccessarily very fit men hitting one another in earnest. It's a crap idea.

It's a crap idea if you put it on television.

It's a crap idea even if not. It's asking for trouble to have old inactive fighters laying into one another. The trouble is, that highly trained fighters even at an advanced age, know how to punch with serious power, against older opponents, that could lead to a fatality or serious injury.

In addition, some old boxers are going to be much better physically than others due to lifestyle, genetics etc.

Boxing is a young man's game, the exceptions, by their rarity, like Foreman and Hopkins, just prove how much this is the case.

I think Eubank is trying to keep his name up in lights because he is yesterday's man & his son is now the Eubank we all talk about.

I'm sure he's missing the limelight, but I doubt he is serious about coming back.

On the one hand, looking at Benn these days, he's well out of boxing, but mention the name Chris Eubank to him & I could almost imagine the demonic stare of his & him running straight back to the gym to get into fighting shape to fight his old nemesis.

At the very highest level, all sports that require serious levels of strength, power and fitness are the preserve of young men (granted there are a handful of exceptions) with superior genetics/hours of training/talent/etc. But beneath the highest level, any sport worth a lick has numerous levels below that where those who are not, for whatever reason - within the boundaries of physical and mental capability - of the calibre to participate in that top tier can still take part. I don't see why boxing should be any different.

Gauging any significant disparity in ability between one 50-year-old and other is no more complicated that doing the same with a pair of junior amateurs. If one is clearly more capable than the other, they should not be matched.

I don't see what the difference is between 50-year-old veterans strolling round a rugby pitch and 50-year-old veterans strolling round a boxing ring. Both sports carry an inherent physical risk (rugby more so I'd argue) but so do lots of things, why shouldn't blokes who still want to take part have the opportunity?

Ok, what about 80 year old people playing rugby/boxing?
