According to boxing news Witter could Fight Colin Lynes on OCtober 21.

They dont mention channel but thats a Friday so most likely sky if it goes ahead.

Also Nicky Cook vacated British title. Who will fight for that?

How can the BBC allow Colin Lynes to fight Witter? Plain wrong he will get hurt.

Lynes has looked in dodgy form against even dodgier opposition since he's had that IBO(llocks) title. Witter may stop him before the midway stage.

Stephen Foster Jr. vs. John Simpson would be a good one for the British title (providing Foster wants to go down that route).

Lynes is no 3 in british ratings according to boxing monthly.
Also in ibo top 25. So decent opponent on paper.
I expect Witter to stop him in about 6

Their champions are seldom top as the rankings are computerised, i.e. a points system.

Seems a bit of a backwards step for Witter, he'll blast Lynes to bits.

Treading water, waiting for that vacant WBC shot I guess....

Yep, reckon so, he wants to keep sharp. This isn't a fight I can get excited about.

Anyone who saw Lynes v Malinga would agree.

Would this be for the IBO belt as well? That may not be important, but it could be a useful bargaining chip for Witter in the pursuit of Hatton

This isn't as bad a fight as some are suggesting. As Mighty Warrior said it's a decent 'treading water fight' and a good domestic match.
Lynes is certainly no mug and Witter didn't exactly set the world alight with his last performance.
Having said that, Witter should win comfortably.

You're not allowed to fight for a 'world title' fight at the same time as EBU, Brit belt etc. being on the line. When Matt Skelton fought for the WBU title he was immediately stripped of the commonwealth title, and then had choose between the WBU or British title. Thankfully he chose the latter.

EBU is a far better bargaining tool, or at least a better way to get you up rankings, than the IBO title. As others say, this will just be a keep busy fight for Witter, waiting to see what becomes of the WBC title.

Is Witter still the British champion, did he get award the lonsdale belt. If yes, cannot understand why this fight has been arranged - why can't the BBBoC have sanctioned this fight in the first place as award Witter the lonsdale belt.

A bit disapointed as a Witter fan, but there aren't really any decent name opponents out there. And at least we get 1 domestic clash at 140

Lynes is a skilled, decent, solid pressure fighter who I like. HEs like a smaller poor mans Hatton. But I scored his last fight to Gallardo. I'd still say hes possibly the British no3.

Did you really score it to Kotelnik? I objectively scored 1-6,12 for Witter, he looked piss poor but thats 7-5 all the same. I think it would be hard not to give the rounds I mentioned to Junior.

Screw Kotelnik, he hardly did anything till late so it was his own fault he lost and he didn't give Witter that many problems even in the later part and easily outboxed him in the first 6.

Probably over worked himself due to the first 6 being easy and he was probably trying to go for the ko.

Diabolical match in my opinion.

Even for a treading water fight it's terrible. If they insist on this route then i'd rather see Ted Bami in there, at least he can punch a bit.

As marking time fights he should be in against someone like Corley or any of Hatton's past 4-5 victims.

Lynes is not good preperation for a world championship match...Dear oh dear.

Agree and Disagree.

Lynes isn't great for a world title fight (Omar Weiss is probably the opponent I'd be looking at for that purpose) but I think he would be better than Bami. He is ranked higher than Bami and also I think is more durable than Bami.

I wouldn't mind (as a treading water fight) see Witter vs Olusegen (or however you spell it) he seemed to be quite good vs Pryce.

This fights is an absolute disgrace. What happened to the Golden Boy Promotions deal MH was spouting about. US TV exposure, World titles? All bullshit as I have said before. This fight has been made because little Mick is now Barry Hearn's bitch and will do as he is told, plain and simple. Colin Lynes should be protected, he will get battered and added to the long list of Hearn Boxers who have ended up in hospital after his appaling matchmaking. Why do the Board allow this to happen for the British title?
Quite sinply this is a scandal and BH and MH should be ashamed of themselves.

Boxing deserves better.
