but thats probably down to the fact we are consistantly shite and the english don't see as being any threat or really even rivals as a result.
If Scotland do well it may cause England to raise their game. A friendly rivalry is great for sport, the Aussies and the English at cricket is one of the best examples. When we win the ashes again we can only take so much pleasure because their team is god awful at the moment, if they had a better team and we beat them it'd be more memorable...

I wanted Federer to beat Murray. Murray is one of those well balanced types from North of the border.

Before Murray was on the scene, the media were all about how long it had been since an Englishman won Wimbledon. When Murray arrives, it`s changed to how long since a British guy won the title. Laughable really.

Most of the Scots I know from over here are really sound guys, some of my best mates are Scots. But I have seen enough of them to know that there are some seriously bitter Scots around. I recall one coming into the pub over here when England played Argentia in the 1998 world Cup, wearing an Argentina top and laughing like hell when we lost the penalty shoot out. He couldn`t understand why he was thrown out on his arse with his top ripped from his back.

As for Amir Khan, people can have their own opinion of him. For me he is a brave lad with a lot of talent. I wanted him to win, but he is not my favourute fighter by a long way.

This is stupid; complete unitellegence. I was defending Khan yesterday against someone a muslim and a black mate. Are they racist? No. It's to do with his personality. Does the nation hate Chisora because he is black? No. What happened when Khan was in the Olympics? Everyone supported him because he fough for Britian. He acts like a dickhead veryone hates him. It aint very cleaver to say 'people on Boxrec don't like Khan so they're racist'. Look, I'm Irish, I've seen no racism.

I'm not saying people are not racist. But if you dislike Carl Froch, then you must be racist towards White-English people... no difference. Use some brain cells

Mate, if Scotland were playing England in a World Cup knockout match (very unlikley I know) and I walked into a pub in Glasgow filled with Scottish fans, wearing an England shirt and then started laughing and cheering when Scotland lost the penalty shoot out, do think the Scottish fans would have been queueing up to buy my a beer?

Argentina were a big "rival" team at that time and the bloke got what he deserved.

I used to support any home nation team in sport, but after putting up with the Anyone but England bullshit, always from the Scots (rarely the Welsh or Northern Irish) I take pleasure in watching Scotland fail time and time again.

I wouldn`t support them against any other team to be honest. As I`ve said, many of best mates are Scottish. Top lads all of them.

When it comes to boxing it`s a different story. I support many Scottish fighters and like to see them all do well. Ricky Burns is a class act both in and out of the ring. A genuinely good guy.

I think football brings out the hatred in many people

I dont like Amir Khan because he IMO is a bit of a prick.
It would appear that race is always the trump card played.
The fact is in that boxing is one of the only sports that doesnt have
a problem with Rascism and we should be proud of that .

Wrists wrote:Funny thing happened I watched a British sportsman lose on Sunday morning and a large amount of Brits were happy with the result. That almost never happens.........

Now I realise that as Brits we always get behind our sportsman, lets face it no-one wanted Roger Federer to beat Andy Murray did they?? I mean we all love Andy Murray because he doesn't smile that much and made an innocent comment years ago about the England football team, personally I think that at the time as an 18 year old he should have known better...........

I mean take that horrible Amir for instance, he should have said No to that Andreas Kotelnik fight (lets face it all of us would) in favour of an 8 rounder against Sid Razak and the Dagenam and Goresbrook leisure centre, you see it would have been better for his development and lets face it a shot in the arm for the common man. How dare he win a silver medal at 17 (the cheek of it) and then decide to fight the best at his weight. Shocking behaviour.

Listen, some of the crap on here is cringeworthy, I think people need to long look at themselves if they continue to be harsh with Amir. Jealousy is a horrible trait to have, seemingly loads on here have it in droves.

What I saw was a Brit being soundly beaten and I felt sad. I suggest if you felt the opposite you should be ashamed of yourself.
Great post, a lot of it is that people in this country don't like our sportsman that are over confident, they see it as arrogance, then a large amount are jealous, a smaller amount are just racists who can't stand a pakistani being successful, then there is Islamophobia, those who see him as the enemy, it don't end there either, plenty of Pakistanis/ muslims see him as a sell out or are jealous and hope he gets beat, he can't win, no wonder he ran to the USA, unfortunately we like humble losers in this country maybe as individuals we can relate to this more, I have to say I do not know Amir and have never met him in person, I support any british fighters against foreign fighters no matter what colour or creed they are, even if they put their foot in their mouth from time to time, we are still human.

Have you ever thought it was just media garbage, or do you believe everything the media tells you, like when Amir Khan and his mates were supposed to have trashed a girls flat and sexually abused her., in this country, when it turned out he was in the states at the time, by way of funny enough the News of the World, I believe. Not saying he has not made mistakes, after all he is still young, but how many times do you hear famous athletes being targeted for sensationalism. Why is it a crime to want to fight the best like Mayweather, surely a world champion would want to beat the best.

Agreed. The general view is people have taken to disliking him bacause he is a bit of a d!ckhead believing his own hype. Talk of fighting Mayweather was an absolute fantasy which will never happen.

Race is always thrown around too quickly when anyone criticizes a boxer.

Fact remains that the most heralded and well supported boxers of recent times are Hatton, Lewis, Benn, Hamed, Calzaghe and Eubank.

That`s three black guys, one muslim guy and two white guys (one of which is half Italian)

I think that dispells any bullshit about racism being rife amongst boxing fans.

Maybe in Alan Minter`s day there was a bit of it about, but he was a nasty piece of work.

The race thing is absolute rubbish, Khan is not popular with the fans here due to his often arrogant manner and comments about his opposition. This is a long running thing with Khan, which started when he pulled out of the ABAs and then had his olimpic final 'rematch' engineered etc etc and has grown along with his constant statements about his superstardom etc etc. At the end of the day if you talk the talk you have to walk the walk and Khan has consistantly failed to live up to his boasts or the hype that has surrounded him from almost day one. Was I pleased to see Khan lose on Saturday? no, but I was pleased to see the best man win on the night and do not see why I should feel guilty for that!. I hope Khan comes back a beter fighter for what happened on Saturday, and I hope that he finds some humility in the process and drops the I am a superstar bit, as it may just make him a better fighter.

To be honest Naseem was not that well liked, when he lost to Barrera a lot of people in this country were happy, Eubank was disliked, everyone wanted him beat, he only got support from the british public with his brave showing at the end of his career against Thompson, when Ben lost to Watson he was slated, ended up going to the states to win his world title, maybe there are other examples you could use beside these, Racism was just one of the reasons I described if you read my post again.

To be fair they all have dislikable traits. When people ripped Haye after the Wlad fight, it was no way racist. If Tyson Fury loses, he will get mullered and he is white.

here we go,i knew it wouldnt be long before someone brought race into it. small minded idiots who just cant take it that people dont like a certain fighters attitude. i dont like khan and its nothing to do with his race, when he won silver at the olypmics i was chuffed to bits then he won his first few pro fights then i started to dislike him cause of the way he was and the people he was fighting then making out he was world class,he was a 10st fighter getting down to 9st9lb and fighting blown up featherweights/super featherweights and conning the british public who were limited in their boxing knowledge. i understand you need to learn your trade at pro boxing fair enough but dont beat 9st4lb fighters and in the process get floored yourself then say "im a world class fighter".

Out of our top lets say 8ish pouund for pound. If Burns, Mitchell, Afolabi get beat they won't get slaughtered 'cos they are honest, likable guys in hard fights (ofalabi cos he's relativly unknown/noone really cares). Froch takes hard fights so is kind of let off a bit. Brook, Fury, Haye and Khan are cocky guys who claim their shit doesn't stink. This is why they get slaughtered. It just turns out they are from ethnic backgrounds... but they all act like dicks. Same as DeGale...

Ashley Theophane lost and his black but has not got ripped. I support ALL GB fighters but some are pricks. You can be a white, black Asian or green prick but you're still a prick! I'm not gonna not call you a prick because you're Asian if you are in fact a prick... you get my point!

I have been a boxing fan for 30 plus years and would say that the fans are the least racist of fans of any sport. One of Britians most popular fighters of the past 100 years was Frank Bruno, and unless I am mistaken he was hardly white. Ironic though that he suffered abuse from some quarters for being an 'uncle tom' just because he didnt play the big 'I am' to the media. Where is the racism coming from there???. I must say that I think some of the people so eager to play the racism card are often prone to stooping to it themselves when it suits them,or when someone like Bruno doesnt 'play the game'

As I said in an earlier post there are different reasons for the dislike of Amir Khan, Racism is one of them, now unless people are saying racism does not exist then there is no way we can discount it.

In essence the reason why Khan is generallly unpopular here compared to say Ricky Hatton is the same reason why Frank Bruno was far more popular and loved compared to Lennox Lewis... and it has nothing to do with race or colour. (Despite Lewis trying to brand Bruno an uncle tom).

Noone says it doesn't exsist. They are TV programmes about it. Government inititives. Debates in the house of lords. Themed parades, protests and days. Racism towards white people have it yet it appears it 'does not exist'.

I would like to say I have many black and asian friends and my best friend is muslim and I say this openly to their face, before you take it the wrong way. There is a black films section in HMV, a magazine called black women in most shops etc. If I start my own white woman/white films section I get killed...

An wthnic person may not like Hatton because he is white. We all have brains/opinions/ability to dislike someone based on whatever we want. That's why we are human beings. Everything unfortunetly exsists always in the human race (racism, rape, murder).

Now let stop the racsim bull shit talk and get back to boxing. It's boring me and should be left to the right time and place!
