Re: KHAN - some people should be ashamed
I understand the first post and the point made about people liking the fact Khan got KO'd. Maybe some of it is unwarranted, but Khan does say some foolish things at times, and people are going to pick up on such things. He's been talking about facing Mayweather for a while now, but the truth is, he's not on the same level as Floyd and he never will be.
I watched some of the build up to Khan-Garcia, and one of Khan's concerns was acquiring the suite at the top of the MGM Grand hotel. I could understand a guy like Floyd wanting that, but not Khan. He hasn't made it like Floyd has, yet he probably thinks or thought he had.
I hope there are NO excuses from Team Khan, not now or in the future, because he knew for about two months he would be facing Garcia, thus had ample time to get ready and make adjustments to tactics that had been in place to face Peterson.
I have noticed Freddy Roach's condition, (Parkinson's Syndrome) appears to be getting worse and worse quite quickly now. When he gave an interview after the fight, his whole body appeared to be shaking, couldn't keep still. Maybe he can't do as much or be involved as much in this camp and has been the case in the past because of his decline?

Re: KHAN - some people should be ashamed
He needs to learn how to fight inside and stop either holding or pushing his oponent away, he needs more lateral movement and to throw from angles, when on the ropes he needs to cross up like mayweather, antisipating the combination and blocking accordingly, instead of just putting his hands up either side of his temple and hoping for the best, he is very open to the uppercut and hooks, when he throws his hands go by his chest, look at the Ko punches he has been caught with, no doubt his speed is his best part, he needs to work in and out , side to side and throw punces in fast bursts, but not stay in range for the reply, when he is hurt he tends to go backwards on unsteady legs with weak guard, he needs to get close to his oponent with a tight cross guard and not be in haymaker range. I am sure other things can be worked on, but that is it in a nutshell.Counter-puncher wrote:out of interest saf, if you were involved in training Khan what specific technical aspects would you be looking to change?

Brilliant, post of the yearWrists wrote:Funny thing happened I watched a British sportsman lose on Sunday morning and a large amount of Brits were happy with the result. That almost never happens.........
Now I realise that as Brits we always get behind our sportsman, lets face it no-one wanted Roger Federer to beat Andy Murray did they?? I mean we all love Andy Murray because he doesn't smile that much and made an innocent comment years ago about the England football team, personally I think that at the time as an 18 year old he should have known better...........
I mean take that horrible Amir for instance, he should have said No to that Andreas Kotelnik fight (lets face it all of us would) in favour of an 8 rounder against Sid Razak and the Dagenam and Goresbrook leisure centre, you see it would have been better for his development and lets face it a shot in the arm for the common man. How dare he win a silver medal at 17 (the cheek of it) and then decide to fight the best at his weight. Shocking behaviour.
Listen, some of the crap on here is cringeworthy, I think people need to long look at themselves if they continue to be harsh with Amir. Jealousy is a horrible trait to have, seemingly loads on here have it in droves.
What I saw was a Brit being soundly beaten and I felt sad. I suggest if you felt the opposite you should be ashamed of yourself.
Amir is a true fighting man, sure he'll lose some but he'll always go out fighting and whether you love him or hate him he's the most entertaining boxer in all boxing at the moment.

Re: KHAN - some people should be ashamed
true, but Mayweather's a shorter guy who does a lot of his defence bending very low at the waist away from punches, Khan being 2-3 inches taller and a more upright target it's maybe a bit more difficult. i mean mayweather is not only (a) better at anticipating the combinations and the direction the next punch is coming from, but (b) being closer to the ground he can lean away from the punches quicker too.safeerah wrote:He needs to learn how to fight inside and stop either holding or pushing his oponent away, he needs more lateral movement and to throw from angles, when on the ropes he needs to cross up like mayweather, antisipating the combination and blocking accordingly, instead of just putting his hands up either side of his temple and hoping for the best, he is very open to the uppercut and hooks, when he throws his hands go by his chest, look at the Ko punches he has been caught with, no doubt his speed is his best part, he needs to work in and out , side to side and throw punces in fast bursts, but not stay in range for the reply, when he is hurt he tends to go backwards on unsteady legs with weak guard, he needs to get close to his oponent with a tight cross guard and not be in haymaker range. I actually think Khan's footwork needs addressing as much as anything. it can't be good for his stamina that he's bounding around the ring like an 8 year old on their birthday. just a very simple pivot and sidestep and re-set, instead of gambolling around the ring like a drunk running downhill. I'm thinking particularly of the Maidana fight but to some extent he's aways done it.

Re: KHAN - some people should be ashamed
With the cross stance it don't matter about height, my lad Nass uses it to great effect and he is 5ft 11 inches, you can teach anyone to read the combinations never mind a former world champion, most combinations start and finish on certain punches, I agree with with you on the feet, that's why I sugested Mcgirt and Whitticker as trainers, they would slow him down and teach him to fight in the pocket more and conserve energy, Yes I teach my boxers to keep the centre by sidestepping and re-setting , instead of going backwards and ending on the ropes, with Khan he fights very long, so it limits what he can do, he does not seem to be able to shorten enough in hiis movements, good points though, all the above would help him, with Khan I have also noticed he is not very fluent with his movements as well, at times can be clumsy, he feels more at home with his Am style.Counter-puncher wrote:true, but Mayweather's a shorter guy who does a lot of his defence bending very low at the waist away from punches, Khan being 2-3 inches taller and a more upright target it's maybe a bit more difficult. i mean mayweather is not only (a) better at anticipating the combinations and the direction the next punch is coming from, but (b) being closer to the ground he can lean away from the punches quicker too.safeerah wrote:He needs to learn how to fight inside and stop either holding or pushing his oponent away, he needs more lateral movement and to throw from angles, when on the ropes he needs to cross up like mayweather, antisipating the combination and blocking accordingly, instead of just putting his hands up either side of his temple and hoping for the best, he is very open to the uppercut and hooks, when he throws his hands go by his chest, look at the Ko punches he has been caught with, no doubt his speed is his best part, he needs to work in and out , side to side and throw punces in fast bursts, but not stay in range for the reply, when he is hurt he tends to go backwards on unsteady legs with weak guard, he needs to get close to his oponent with a tight cross guard and not be in haymaker range. yes, he needs to shorten up his movements all-round, wastes less energy and means he's more often in position to counter and he's offbalance less often
i think i know what you mean about height not being a factor, it's just that almost all of the boxers i can think of who use that kind of rolling style effectively- Toney, Mayweather, our own Ian Napa- tend to be shorter. not sure i can recall a distinctly taller fighter doing it consistently at the top level.

If you google my lad and fighter Nasser Al Harbi and watch his fight with the no7 in the world Emanuele Della Rosa, on google in Italy , it's not on you tube, you will see him use it, at times, but in a higher posture then Mayweather, when you are tall and you lift your leading shoulder up, whilst tucking your chin in, you can arch back from punches, making it more difficult to reach you because of the hieght.Counter-puncher wrote:yes, he needs to shorten up his movements all-round, wastes less energy and means he's more often in position to counter and he's offbalance less often![]()

Re: KHAN - some people should be ashamed
Nasser is a very good fighter but to really move on he needs to sell tickets as in this game ability alone doesnt guarantee success you have to sell tickets or else its not going to happen for him which is a real shame for such a quality fighter/Prospectsafeerah wrote:If you google my lad and fighter Nasser Al Harbi and watch his fight with the no7 in the world Emanuele Della Rosa, on google in Italy , it's not on you tube, you will see him use it, at times, but in a higher posture then Mayweather, when you are tall and you lift your leading shoulder up, whilst tucking your chin in, you can arch back from punches, making it more difficult to reach you because of the hieght.Counter-puncher wrote:yes, he needs to shorten up his movements all-round, wastes less energy and means he's more often in position to counter and he's offbalance less often![]()
