Funny thing happened I watched a British sportsman lose on Sunday morning and a large amount of Brits were happy with the result. That almost never happens.........

Now I realise that as Brits we always get behind our sportsman, lets face it no-one wanted Roger Federer to beat Andy Murray did they?? I mean we all love Andy Murray because he doesn't smile that much and made an innocent comment years ago about the England football team, personally I think that at the time as an 18 year old he should have known better...........

I mean take that horrible Amir for instance, he should have said No to that Andreas Kotelnik fight (lets face it all of us would) in favour of an 8 rounder against Sid Razak and the Dagenam and Goresbrook leisure centre, you see it would have been better for his development and lets face it a shot in the arm for the common man. How dare he win a silver medal at 17 (the cheek of it) and then decide to fight the best at his weight. Shocking behaviour.

Listen, some of the crap on here is cringeworthy, I think people need to long look at themselves if they continue to be harsh with Amir. Jealousy is a horrible trait to have, seemingly loads on here have it in droves.

What I saw was a Brit being soundly beaten and I felt sad. I suggest if you felt the opposite you should be ashamed of yourself.

I suggest you grow up and realise that not everyone puts such an importance of nationality , i dont care for the term Brit and i really cannae stand snivelling little runts dicatating to me the terms i should be backing fighters.

He is a world class champion with world class frailties, he'll come back and probably pick up a world title at Light welter/Welter and then maybe get knocked out again but one thing we know is that he'll always bring it and be one of the most exciting boxers in all boxing to watch.

Mate, if Scotland were playing England in a World Cup knockout match (very unlikley I know) and I walked into a pub in Glasgow filled with Scottish fans, wearing an England shirt and then started laughing and cheering when Scotland lost the penalty shoot out, do think the Scottish fans would have been queueing up to buy my a beer?

Argentina were a big "rival" team at that time and the bloke got what he deserved.

I used to support any home nation team in sport, but after putting up with the Anyone but England bullshit, always from the Scots (rarely the Welsh or Northern Irish) I take pleasure in watching Scotland fail time and time again.

I wouldn`t support them against any other team to be honest. As I`ve said, many of best mates are Scottish. Top lads all of them.

When it comes to boxing it`s a different story. I support many Scottish fighters and like to see them all do well. Ricky Burns is a class act both in and out of the ring. A genuinely good guy.

If you walked into my local boozer in Carron (somewhere in the middle of glasgow, edinburgh and stirling) wearing an england top, during a scotland vs england game, i genuinely believe you would be welcomed in and suitably abused, in a friendly manner of course.
it goes with out saying that there are many boozers across the country where this would not be tolerated, but that is the case north and south of the border....and apparently in norway, for some strange reason. everywhere has pubs where you may not be welcome for a variety of reasons, i tend to try and avoid frequenting such shitholes.

i'm assuming the "he got what he deserved" statement implies the lad got a hiding. in which case, that is not acceptable for taking the piss out of someones football team and if you took part in that and think it's acceptable, that, in my book, makes you a thug. (england fans living up to their stereotyped reputation?).

The guy never got a kicking. He was huckled out of the bar by the bouncers for causing aggro and his shirt was ripped from his back.

He was pretty out of order during the game, and even managed to insult a few Brazilian girls, one of whom abused him back with the classic "You can meet my father when he next over, he dentist and he fix your teeth"

There is trouble at boxing, no doubt about that, but from a supporters perspective I dont think you get the A.B.E approach that we see in football and vice versa.

I agree that Burns v Mitchell could be a bad one. Proper culture clash there.

your right to be fair, there is a way to make certain points,
half through the thread, i pointed out that racism is a reason for many people dislike of amir (of that i have no doubt),
but was careful to point out that i would not level that accusation at someone over the internet without very good reason. there is no way of guaging someones motives for saying certain things, you cannot make assumptions and you know absolutely nothing about someone but thier user name and what they type
