yeah that rings a bell too....no need for that as a voicemail really is there. Agree about Bunce tho I think sometimes the words are out before the brain catches up. Doubt it was intentional tho, plus I've seen him be very respectful at other times.JDC wrote:I think it was on his voice mail too. Does anybody think Frazier would have given a sh*t? I'm sure I saw a documentary in which Frazier said "Look at him (Ali) and look at me...you still think I lost that fight? .... hahaha"...........or something to that effect. Let's not make out he was a saint himself imho.
'''Floats like a butterfly,
Stings like a bee,
Look at him now,
That was me''
Followed by laughter.
Maybe Bunce simply doesn't have much respect for Frazier, but it shouldn't come out in a professional setting.

He didn't mean anything by it ! Bunce and lillis are good tv IMO.

Would this grotesque fatboy dare to refer to Smokin' Joe Frazier as "brown bread" if Marvis Frazier, or George Foreman, or Bernard Hopkins were sat on the sofa by him? Would he fcuk.

When my grand dad would call none white Rugby players various names whilst watching TV he didn't mean anything by it, that didn't however mean it wasn't offensive, racist and bigoted.
Re: STEVE BUNCE - HAS IT COME TO THIS?
"brown bread" is simple cockney rhyming slang for Dead. There's no racial undertone when used to describe the life status of a man who is clearly dead.

I don't think anyone is reading racist under-tones, just that it was unprofessional and showed a complete lack of respect. He'd already said he was dead so the comment was unneeded.earsjohn wrote:"brown bread" is simple cockney rhyming slang for Dead. Re: STEVE BUNCE - HAS IT COME TO THIS?
I can understand why some people are aggrieved by Buncey but personally I find him entertaining. People are suggesting he is some kind of amateur moron however he is clearly held in high regard in the world or sports broadcast and journalism. How many other boxing pundits have their own radio show, their own TV show, their own newspaper column and co host one of ESPN's flagship programmes?
I just think he's given too much rope to play with at times on allegedly and inevitably hangs himself. Jim Rosenthal keeping Buncey in check would be a much better formula.

I've rarely if ever see anyone suggest that as most will acknowledge his experience, passion and contacts in the game. However, they've been left disappointed by his arrogance, blinkered nature and hypocrisy.chad wrote:People are suggesting he is some kind of amateur moron.

The purpose of Twitter was to post what you are thinking and let your subscribers/fellow twatters voice their opinion on what YOU have tweeted. As somebody said previously, Frazier was quite horrible about Ali's condition. Frazier ended up being very bitter about his two losses to Ali.

Fraizer and Ali DID have a very, very personal and heated rivalry, lets not forget what Ali subjected Fraizer too. Bunce however had no part in their rivalry.Bronxbull666 wrote:The purpose of Twitter was to post what you are thinking and let your subscribers/fellow twatters voice their opinion on what YOU have tweeted. "brown bread" is cockney but again, it can be seen as offensive, especially when talking on a "professional" level which Bunce was doing. Had he been at the pub then it'd have been over looked but he's representing his channel and that should be done on a professional level.

What are Ofcom going to really do? Go "well it's a subscription service they can do as they like" like I said, I said in twitter that a bit of respect wouldn't go amiss. The Dark Destroyer wrote:It can be seen as offensive by someone who is looking to find offence. Bunce said nothing that was offensive, or anything that should have caused this thread.
How actually offended were any of you? Did any of you go to ofcom and make an actual complaint? Or did you go to Twitter and make a scene?
I don't particularly like his show or his presentation style so I don't watch it. It's really as simple as that.
The word offence is practically meaningless nowadays.
I tend to find an alternative way to watch what's on allegedly but it hardly gives him an excuse to be a twat. It wasn't out and out offensive (your right) however it was "disrespectful" and "unprofessional".

Surely they have more "leeway" on what they can and cannot broadcast (hence porn channels), like I said it wasn't "offensive" just disrespectful and unprofessional, OFCOM won't do anything there. The Dark Destroyer wrote:A subscription channel can't do whatever they like. Enough people? Come one, what was there, 12 people watching? Maybe 13...The Dark Destroyer wrote:Of course they won't because no-one did anything wrong.iamasadlittleboy wrote:

If enough people complained ofcom would investigate the incident, but no-one will complain, because it was a nothing remark being used by people like you to cause an issue where there isn't one. Any tv or radio station has to stick to the rules of their licence, if they break these, or broadcast anything they shouldn't they will be punished through fines and things like this, no channel has any special 'leeway'. Although I'm sure the licence for a subscription porn channel is different to that of something like Cartoon Network.
Why do you keep putting words inside "these"? Are you quoting someone or something?
Cartoon Network will not be subscription a such, instead it will be part of a children's package as opposed to a specialist subscription (allegedly).
The " are their to show that I, personally, wasn't claiming it to be offensive as such (though could easily understand how it was) it as, as I keep saying, disrespectful and unprofessional...a HUGE difference to offensive.

Making light of death shouldn't really offend anyone but it's a bit taboo. I wonder if people would have been as upset if the comment was about Michael Jackson or Steve Irwin. Bunce should be a bit more professional in roll as a TV presenter of a far reaching show.

Had he left at "he's dead" there wouldn't be this conversation the fact he repeated himself in "cockney rhyming slang, being good old Buncey" is where the problem is. He had already said "He was dead" then followed up with "brown bread", does he REALLY need to repeat himself?
Imagine if someone on TV said "Bunce is a cat, Bunce is a a fornicating pussy"?
Professional? Hell no, but hey, he;'s only repeating himself in an unprofessional manner...

Re: STEVE BUNCE - HAS IT COME TO THIS?
That would be impossible. It could be disrespectful to his memory in others though. I can see that someone might be offended by it and nothing was actually gained from its use. Its not about being offended on someone's behalf, more a case of what's the point in rolling the dice. He wouldn't sit there f#*#*ing and blinding, where do you draw the line? The Dark Destroyer wrote: I don't think it was used to be disrespectful to Frazier, do you?

You tend to find alternative ways to watch the channel? Are you a subscriber, if you are I apologise but if not I find the fact that you can't even cough up a fornicating tenner a month to watch boxing but are willing to go all out to have a pop at Bunce for a flippant comment more offensive.iamasadlittleboy wrote:What are Ofcom going to really do? Tbh I find Bunce and Lillis a little too similar in style so generally dont watch much of their studio commentary and believe they could do with having someone like Jim to pull it together like others have said.
Re: STEVE BUNCE - HAS IT COME TO THIS?
So you are seriously trying to say that because Bunce used a different platform for his initial comment in the form of TV, nobody should have questioned him on it through twitter? If so, congrats on taking a unique approach to social media.Bronxbull666 wrote:The purpose of Twitter was to post what you are thinking and let your subscribers/fellow twatters voice their opinion on what YOU have tweeted. Brown bread is not cockney rhyming slang it's purely rhyming slang. The only thing cockney was the ogre tones coming out the telly.(no offence to any East End posters)iamasadlittleboy wrote:Had he left at "he's dead" there wouldn't be this conversation the fact he repeated himself in "cockney rhyming slang, being good old Buncey" is where the problem is. I'm saying that there wasn't any disrespect in what Bunce said and that you can't cry over an off the cuff, less than flippant, throwaway comment live on TV.
Social networking is different, you have time to choose your words carefully. The problem with live TV is that presenters are constantly stiff, treading on eggshells, reading from a script, politically correct etc... Bunce talks a bit off the subject now and then, so what? He might border on sexism, or say the wrong thing, but the world is too sensitive these days. You can't do or say anything, and sadly, the Internet is the easy choice, quick method to hassle people.

Re: STEVE BUNCE - HAS IT COME TO THIS?
Some weird people on this forum. I don't think anyone's painful cancer-related early death should be discussed in such a glib, off-hand and frivolous manner. Especially not by a 'professional' boxing broadcaster, on TV, referring to one of the greatest boxers of all time. Can anyone imagine a BBC analyst on the snooker referring to Paul Hunter as "Ees dead now inney!? Ee's brown bread! Let's get him up as a hologram it'll be well spooky!"
It wouldn't happen, not only for professional reasons but also because of basic human decency. Qualities that are missing in Bunce, and certainly in the one or two posters on this thread who are defending his disgusting manner.
Like I said, would Bunce have dared speak of Frazier in such terms if a Frazier associate such as Foreman or Hopkins were sat on the sofa? No way.

Re: STEVE BUNCE - HAS IT COME TO THIS?
I had some mates round for the Sturm v Geale fight last weekend. We had had a few beers and a bit of a smoke and then Bunce and Lillis came on.
Thse mates of mine are not big boxing fans, but both are aussies so they wanted to watch Geale.
A massive laughing fit kicked off when Bunce and Lillis started there chirpy knees up muvva brown act. They were quit simply hilarious for all the wrong reasons.
There is no way i could do what Bunce does, which is essentially carry a live show for hours, but there is no doubting that he is a very aquired tatse and after 10 mins of him I get a headache and turn the volume down.
