I've always respected Holyfield's ability & his ability to come out on top during a really good HW era & & against men who were so much bigger, but that 'Evan Fields' episode leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.
The Evan Fields thing led nowhere. It was a trash 'story' from a website that printed more 'news' the following week saying Holyfield had "balls the size of peanuts". People who read crap like that must eat up everything The Sun tells them.
Holyfeild will always be remembered as a audacious warrior no matter how hard the press and his ex's try to vilify him. Yeah he had a perchant for the fairer sex, what bloke doesn't? He's still a good role model to kids. He lives a more virtuous life then most sportsman today.
My most favourite fighter of all time is Evander. Yeah, he probably wasnt very good at "life" but as a fighter i dont know how anyone can criticise him.
If there were more Evander Holyfield's in boxing, then the sport would be as big as football is.

Agreed. Easily my favourite cruiserweight/heavyweight of the last thirty years. Not the best, but my favourite.
As much as i love the Bowe trilogy, the 1st Tyson fight is my favourite.
The build up, fight and aftermath were beautiful.
Its almost up there with "Rumble in the Jungle" as a story.

Yeah, for all the bad he did for boxers when you think of Holyfield vs Tyson 1 - the build up, the three heavyweight title fights on the bill, there was a bit of a novelty act with Christy Martin also.... it makes you wish Don King had more involvement in the sport now.
The greatest promo ever was for that fight... in which you have Mr voice over man hype Tyson's record and comeback to believe.... and then basically says "who would be crazy enough to have the balls to fight this man" - and up pops up Holyfield..... brilliant stuff. The personalities of both fighters sold that fight. Even though Holyfield was considered shot goods, you knew it would need to take someone of a cast iron chin and cast iron will to be competitive against Mike - Holyfield was the one.

It always baffles me when you hear stories of people squandering fortunes. I can't imagine where $150m goes in such a short time, and they never seem to have a mass amount of tangible assets which is all the more baffling.
Just speaking from personal experience, I can totally understand.
When you are earning really good money, riding the crest of a wave, thinking it will never end you would be amazed how many ways you find to spend it on absolutely nothing.

If he is as broke as he says, his 12 kids may well be needed to work on the farm.
