We'd have found out who would have won if Calzaghe hadn't avoided the fight, choosing to fight people like Bika, Manfredo Jr and a VERY shopworn RJJ instead of Carl :witzend:

For that reason if nothing else, Froch KO8

If Froch was to win, he would have to catch Calzaghe very early. Only time Calzaghe was down was in the first two rounds. Calzaghe's style all wrong from Froch as he would stop Carl grounding his feet by swarming all over him.

Calzaghe wins this by a wide points margin, similar to the way Ward did. I just don't see how Froch could win the fight. He'd certainly not be able to outbox Calzaghe to a points win due to Calzaghe's superior boxing ability and workrate, I very much doubt he'd have the power to stop Calzaghe as Calzaghe had a great chin and Froch doesn't hit particularly hard at the top level.

To be honest, it was a good thing for Froch's career that this fight didn't happen in 2007/2008 when he was calling Calzaghe out as an emphatic defeat would have seriously derailed Froch's world title ambitions.

Isn't it funny how back in 2007/8 when Froch was unproven and constantly calling Calzaghe out, most of Froch's fans (and some others) were saying Froch would 'smoke his boots', yet now Froch has proven his worth and how good he is, he barely gets given a chance against Joe by anybody?

Like StevDow said, it's probably for the best this fight never happened, Froch's career might have looked a lot different than it does now. And Calzaghe's wouldn't have change much to be honest.

Bika is an expert at fouling though, and being able to get away with it.

Froch is a pretty average fouler if truth be told.

Plus, of the two I'd say Bika is the better inside fighter, Froch's footwork and handspeed/delivery doesn't facilitate being a strong inside fighter.

What he does have is a really thudding jab, a powerful if looping right hand and can work the body with both hands. When he keeps it simple he's very effective.

One day he will catch someone above journeyman level with that awfully bad ''run up uppercut'' that he sometimes lets go too

He's my favourite British fighter ever, but you've got to be realistic about his strengths and weaknesses. Strength = boxing on the outside, weakness = inside fighting.

Joe was very much like Carl, he performed best against better opponents. If the fight did take place JC would have trained like he had never trained before and done the same to CF as he did to Kessler and Lacy IMHO. CF would have kept coming forward and JC would have picked him off with faster hands.

I don't see how Froch can win this. JC's chin is proven, his work rate is higher, he is too clever and has shown he can adapt within a fight.
The Welshman used to be a real banger and after getting terrible hand injuries he was still good enough to know how to win the long way at top level.
Froth has lost to Ward and Kessler and I felt he also lost to Dirrell and was behind on points before a final round KO v Taylor

Froch has always been willing to fight the best, which is something Calzaghe took most of his career to do.

Saying that, I think Calzaghe was the better fighter. Not much in it though.

As much as I like Froch and his desire to fight the best out there, Calzaghe at his best would have boxed his head off. In the same way Joe looked a class above Kessler when he started boxing in the second half of the fight, I don't think Froch would have been able to land much on him at all.

However if Froch had managed to convince him to fight after the Calzaghe-Jones Jr fight, then Froch may have been able to stop him as I think Joe's punch resistance and defence was starting to look a bit suspect.

Not changed my mind on this from back in the day - Calzaghe in a comfortable but entertaining points win.

The Manfredo Jr fight in particular, was a farce of matchmaking.

At least when the boxer is fighting some unknown fighter from Eastern Europe with an undefeated record he can pretend he's fighting somebody good. And RJJ is RJJ, even if he's ancient. But in Manfredo, he fought a fighter everybody heard of due to The Contender, so he was fighting somebody everybody knew was shite before he started.

Froch is my 2nd favourite british fighter ever (nothing beats Nas in his pomp, for me) but Calzaghe takes this all the way. Just too quick and too versatile. As gobbles said, Calzaghe would simply not let Froch get set to throw anything.

I could have listed numerous other nobodies Joe chose to fight over Carl. It was a terrible time, when Joe thought his shit didn't stink

Maybe his much touted comeback would have been more successful if he'd have matched himself more aggressively prior to his retirement, but he grew in love with his O

i think calzaghe all through his career would beat froch, i think earlier in his career he would of stopped froch and towards the end i think a ud maybe 116-112, not to say it wouldnt of been bad to watch. i think calzaghe v ward would be very close.

Calzaghe UD he'd just throw to much leather and Carl can appear very slow against speedsters coupled with Joe's durability.

Manfredo was all about getting HBO onboard. Without Manfredo, Calzaghe-Kessler would not have had HBO backing
