What ruins these forums are the same inane threads, week after week, sometimes one after the other, just worded differently. I do worry for Hatton for the future however as once this defeat sinks in it may hurt him a lot more than the Mayweather and Pacman defeats did. Senchenko, though competant, is not world class and going out on his knees to a fighter like that must torture him mentally. He kept saying in the interview that he was happy but he came across as anything but happy to me. He needs to resolve the rift with his parents as he'll need their support in the future and he also needs to stop drinking completely. Drinking will exagerrate how depressed he'll feel.

At the end of the day, boxing is all about making money, titles and reputation come second and third. He has his health and plenty of brass, a young family and a good future in boxing as a trainer / promoter. All fighters eventually fade into memory, event the greats like Leonard, Jones, Duran, Hearns. It's howboxing is, the kingis dead, long live the king etc etc

For Hatton, I think boxing became more about his ego than money, or indeed anything else. The way he has spoken since the defeat shows that although he trained hard and lost weight, he had no idea what the reasons for his defeat to Manny were. He fought in exactly the same way he did against Carlos Maussa, leading with his face, dropping his hands before he throws a punch and worst of all, throwing punches when the openings were not there. He seemed to be facing the body bag again, rather than working on openings with his jab and setting Senchenko up for counters. His sparring must have been woeful.

With Bob Shannon, Ricky found himself another cheerleader rather than a serious trainer. Wtf were those foam pads about? The questions that were answered on Sat nite should have been asked of Ricky in the gym. It was heart breaking to see him cry again at the post fight interview but it would not have happened had he had a serious trainer in his corner.

I think Ricky's troubles come with his love of attention. He needs to be 'the man' and its not been happening for him. No matter what cash he has or who his bird is, he will always be unhappy that folk aren't talking about 'Ricky Hatton'. It's so sad.

I've not seen it mentioned yet but I feel he should have got up from that body shot and gave it his all to finish the fight. I think that's why he was so upset as he knew he could have got up and finished the fight but gave up. He even rolled over after getting to one knee. I've seen imported journeymen take better from Ricky and keep going.

I agree with most of what you say except the bit about him getting up from the body punch. A well placed body shot like that is very hard to recover from and if he could have got up he would have done. I don't think anyone could call Hatton a quitter. For all his faults as a fighter, lack of heart is not one of them.

True, impossible to imagine for me. It's easy to criticise him from the couch, what he has achieved is 1in 1,000,000,000 yet he is still suicidal. It's incredible. I think Hagler is a good role model for retirement. Move abroad for a while and get used to people treating you the same as everyone else, then appear low key now and then, say at the hall of fame etc for your adulation as a great fighter. Hatton will get in first ballot - as long as he stays away from boxing and the revisionists don't mangle his career like with Jones jnr.

It's harsh but he needs to 'get over himself' and enjoy his incredible achievements and financial freedom. The UK probably isn't the place to do it though.

Why not get into another adrenaline sport that doesn't require him to get leathered? He has all the options in the world. Almost no lifestyle is barred to him. He could go skiing, skydiving, kite surfing etc etc for the rest of his life if he wants. Opportunities most folk could never dream of.

I agree with a lot of what has been said already, although I am not 100% sure that we have not seen the last of Ricky Hatton (I am sure a Hatton / Khan fight would still sell out the MEN).

At the press conference on the link he is still talking about losing to Pac because of poor preparation, and in this fight he claims that he was 5 rounds up (I haven't seen the fight) and that he lost because he had to lose 4.5 stone etc.etc.

He is still giving himself reasons why he lost. At the end of the day, somebody has done to him what he did to Tzsu - boxing imitates life and it isn't always pleasant.

I don't know the circumstances surrounding the fall out with his mum and dad, but hopefully they can all get together and talk some sense into him.

I think this is true and has been the case for around 8 years. Pre 24/7 some documentary footage showed him being a bully in the gym, can't mind when. I realised then he had a huge ego and the boy next door stuff was pants.

I feel for anyone suffering mental health issues, it is terrible. He is in a better position than 99% of almost 6bilion folk so should get his head round it and get his kicks and power trip elsewhere.
