Twitter is just another way of massaging celebrity egos and for people to pimp you shit you don't need.

I disagree, I don't think you know how twitter works as you can read it without ever making an opinion

So why bother to sign up? Not a dig I'm just curious. I do look a bit at a couple of boxers twitter, because as mentioned elsewhere in this topic its where they put their own news first. But I'm not really interested in talking to celebrities so I don't see any benefit to signing up for me personally

Asking for a retweet It`s a sorry state of affairs when someone feels the need for a "celebrity" to retweet them as though that somehow elevates their standing.

The obsession with celebrity and fame is spiralling out of control. Who gives a toss what some muppet had for breakfast, do they really need to tell the world? and why do people find it of interest?

I thought the same before but now I get twitter it is pretty good, it takes time to get used to but I find it very good.

It can be useful and entertaining, though i don't tweet myself, i just read. Local radio interviews you have missed with your local football team are an example of it's usefulness and just general newsworthy items. The " i had pasta for lunch" brigade are a different breed altogether.

Every time I hear someone I used to have respect for say "I'm following..." or "I follow..." or "...retweeted me" it disgusts me. It just all sounds so needy, vacuous, and inane. Even worse is "Please will you follow me/give me a follow". Lame.

Twitter is what you make of it. If you find it shitty, you're following the wrong people. Personally i find it to be an amazing information gathering tool.

I signed up because it allows me control who I follow hence anything I may find interesting is in one place. TBH to start with it took me 6 months to get around it and once i signed up I gave up after a couple of days only to go back later.

Fair enough mate, that does make sense. I think I just don't really understand twitter and probably just see a lot of the whole "please RT me Eddie Hearn" etc when I do glance on there that it puts me off. But I've got mates on there who can't believe I haven't bothered to sign up. But I think I read enough of these forums both football and boxing and made the mistake of signing up to facebook that I don't need anything else!!

This forum is the best source of info as far as I am concerned. I don`t have the need to get the news as soon as it happens, so I can make do with finding out after a couple of hours or so when I visit this site.

These days I am less fanatical about boxing, but I`d be pretty lost without the infor I pick up on here. After moving to Norway I can safely say there is no one here, at least who I know, who can hold a decent conversation on boxing. I host many fight nights at mine, but the ex pat lads are just there for the piss up rather than the boxing. i find myself staring at the screen and answering their questions without glancing at them. I feel like telling them to just watch the fight rather than ask me 20 questions about it.

They can be into the main event if they have heard of one of the fighters, but a full card is too much for them. They will never understand why I set my alarm for 4 in the morning to get up and watch a U.S fight.

I miss that about the UK, your average bloke likes his boxing. I was over in Newport for the Wales v Oz rugby game a few weeks ago and we watched the Price fight and Flintoff fight in some dodgy boozer, but it was packed with blokes actually watching the fight. Love Newport, proper boozing town.
