Re: Johnny Nelson at it again on Ringside
Well I must bee seing things then.
As dbf says that's how it is.
Yesterday they did three separate editions - Froch preview, ringside for later that day, then the Eubank special.
Trust me no time to hang about.
All of that process was done and in the can in 7 hours.

I agree. I think Eubank at his best would beat Froch though. I rate Froch higher over all on quality of opposition. It's a strange one. Eubanks world title career is the polar opposite from Carl's.
My pal is a model, kind of past it now but still 'a player' on that scene. He did some gigs with Eubanks about 10 years ago and said he is the maddest party animal that he has ever known. And this guy is the maddest I know. I always thought he was teetotal and straight down the line family man. He said you never got a straight answer from any question from him, even with his hair down, he was naturally evasive.
Re: Johnny Nelson at it again on Ringside
Very true, you could start a thread on any one of those and they would take a hammering. Still, i have to say it, Nelson has had enough time to get the hang of it, yet always comes across like its his first time on air. Its time to let him go IMO!jameswilson wrote:It aint just Johnny Nelson. People on this board don't seem to like any commentators or pundits or presenters. Bunce, McKenzie, Macintosh, Nelson, Watt, McGuigan, McCrory. The list goes on. We get it guys.palooka wrote:Are they that bad Terrrrrry that every one needs pointing out? Nelson weren't the best ever boxer and isn't the best every presenter; he got better at the boxing and will get better at the presenting. His cock ups when presenting Ringside are getting worse!

Buncey doesn't need a big budget and huge staff to make his show classier and more polished. Just some imagination and creativity!

sorry to be pedantic but the thing is, you said my first post was "wrong" and then you divulge a load of information to backs up my original post. Quite confusing.twenty six wrote:I was there Thusday dbf and obviously Johnny is a mate so I know how his working week pans out.
As a quick recap for clarity here is my original post broken down. Which part of this are you saying is "wrong"
1. For all the Bunce bashing to goes on here, remember he does hours on end live and unscripted.
2. Whereas those on Ringside have a week to prepare.
3. Hours to film a single hour show.
4. And more backroom support than Charles and Camilla to edit and produce.

Re: Johnny Nelson at it again on Ringside
The content of the Ringside show is not known a week in advance.
Example this week Eubank was only confirmed as being on the show Thursday morning.
It was filmed at lunchtime. Hours to prepare yes - two to be precise.
I can't comment on Steve Bunce - I don't know how much prep or otherwise he does.
One floor manager and three camermen plus one in the recoding studio I believe.
Camilla and Charles must be cutting back.

I'll give you this one Slapbang - they do have excellent runners supplying the soft drinks and coffee.
Not interested in an argument about it mate, just think sometimes people make out that a programe like Ringside takes on Downton Abbey production levels - it doesn't.

It goes out live on Thursday's.
I saw a tweet with a dodgy username go out a few weeks ago but it had disappeared in the repeat. I know because I sadly watched it twice.
Suggest watching carefully as It's the little things that give it away.

It doesn't.
My mate does the show, and I'm lucky to able to go down every now and then and watch the filming.

Ahhh the good old boxrec old women brigade are still in force.
I saw a couple of Ringside's whilst i was back over Christmas and really enjoyed them. Good guests, good presenting, good action, good build up to future fights, etc.
I would love to be able to watch it every week.
I didnt sit there fact checking every single word spoken, because im not confined to a mental institution.

This is supposed to be a boxing forum.
Go and talk about blow jobs elsewhere.
And so on.

Re: Johnny Nelson at it again on Ringside
i hate slick tv presenting - its everywhere and its boring and i want rid of it. leave johnny alone at least hes not a hack journo or some smart ass brought in from another sport or another dept altogether. he fought in nthe ring and made a good career out of it - bored more than a few people but he climbed thru the ropes and traded punches whatever you say about him. these blokes should be on our screens more and slick media types less.
Re: Johnny Nelson at it again on Ringside
@misterpunch, I agree to a point. I like the casual approach but it still needs to be insightful and lucid. That said, I think Jim Lampley is great and he's about as slick as they come.

Re: Johnny Nelson at it again on Ringside
That's about right. From inadvertent glances when he's had his tight strides on, I'd say that Nelson's column is of similar dimensions to Nelson's column.

Leaving his penis aside for a minute. I think Nelson is superb as a presenter.
He knows the sport (duh!) and he also knows what his job is. He isnt there to tell you everything is shit and you should all cancel your SKY subscriptions (Like Steve Holdsworth might do, on a bad day).
