Opening a pro-am gym questions.....

Hi folks- just trying to get this sorted. What are the rules regarding training times etc? Has anyone had any experience with this set up - does it cost more?

Out of interest, why would it be more expensive to run a pro-am gym as opposed to one or the other??

They can train at same times if you want them to though , dont HAVE to be seperate just whichever seems to work best for each individual gym .

and its more expensive as you have to register with the aba as well as getting the pro licenses etc , along with associated costs such as amateur kit .

Probably be a good idea to have an assistant trainer put through the aba course so that you can spend time with pros who need it without it being of any detriment to the amateurs .

Also nothing to stop you having lads there who box unlicensed but of course cant do any cornering for them and they cant do unlicensed while registered amateur etc , obviously.

Amateurs gym gets better funding and grant and such where as pro get nothing... A pro trainer don't get paid just 10% of a fighters purse normally... Ha... Pro boxing is a joke also how I got involved I don't have a clue :(

Ronnies got a point the only decent non corrupt(mainly) boxing is amateur sooo many people regret turning pro the only thing that spoils the amateurs is the headguards(which they're getting rid of I think) and mainly the poor picky refs who just love the sound of their own voices

shame that, i don't know enough to be honest, i'm just gutted that a pro boxer (ronnie) feels that way. Says a lot about the sport.

That been said, Ronnie, you call it a joke but if you all of a sudden start earning money out of it (Proper money) would you still call it a joke? (Honest question)

Ronnie's biggest gripe with the sport at the moment is the match-making process.

He's all for testing himself against the best prospects out there in the UK, and unfortunately for him most promoters/managers choose to match their prospects intelligently for the first year or so after turning over.

I sold 70 at my last fight away from home... I done 150 at my fight before in Dundee... I will do over 200 for my next one in Dundee... I'm building a good fan base but gotta be busier I think :)

If your selling that many tickets then getting fights shouldnt be a problem , i think the problem will be the promoters will want to protect that little bit of extra income your sales are generating , thus having to box lesser opponents .

If your selling 70 as an away fighter then to me that may be your best way of getting meaningful fights , but you have more chance of not getting the rub of the green etc then , many lads dont sell 70 for home fights to be honest .

How far away was your away fight ? if you was boxing in somewhere like manchester would you sell enough to get matched , over around 60 , or maybe fight a bigger name etc etc

If I had a big fight in England I could sell alot of tickets with the correct notice... I know promoters want to give fighters as least notice as possible so the home fighter has a better chance but I'm as fit as GOD... Best give me full notice I will still be fit and I will sell the shows... My dream is a s/f prizefighter so I could knock everyone out for dodging me ;)

I actually think you proberly would do quite well in PF, if it was at your own weight ,be a good way to fast track should you win it
