Re: Gay boxers.
Can you imagine Louis Spence being a boxer, no one would ever get close to him dancing around the ring, he would make a great gay fighter.
Re: Gay boxers.
No I said there people out there who think that way though.misterpunch wrote:what do you mean "who wants to get beaten up by a gay bloke?"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
are you telling me that you still cannot get around the idea that so called gay people can be as tough as so called "straits" or that they are unable to learn the skills necessary to become decent fighters?
cruz showed that it's no longer much of an issue - his society is far more rigidly conservative sexually than ours.
what year is this?

The 'ring walk' would be f a b u l o u s darling......
probably some innuendo in there but I won't stoop that low...
PS: Journalists would never be able to write about 'fighting bums' again........

Re: Gay boxers.
boxing is littered with unintentional gay inuendo - as you say "fighting bums" "the ring" "vaseline on various parts of the body" etc many are posted on previous threads and all are very funny...its very difficult to avoid them
Re: Gay boxers.
The sad reality is that lots of boxing fans are from a culture which still villifies homosexuality. It's definitely becoming less of an issue, but it's absolutely not at the point where most gay sportsmen will come out. Gareth Thomas and Brian Moore say it's a big deal, I'm not aware of a single openly gay premiership footballer, Cruz is the only openly gay fighter, and you can guarantee this is not because there's nobody else gay in those professions.
What I think is, who cares what their sexuality is? A boxing match is a fight between two blokes; what they choose to get up to in their bedrooms is a supreme irrelevance.

The gay community gains role models outside of the flouncy, camp type in the public eye.TJ77 wrote:Why the interest? Would the gay community gain anything from boxers coming out?
Equally what does boxing gain from fighters declaring their sexuality?
Probably nothing in either case.
Re: Gay boxers.
I agree with your post 100% but I do think the stats on how many people are gay is greatly exaggerated by those pushing the gay agenda. It's not as common as they make out. The number widely thrown about is one in ten. I am convinced that number is simply wrong. Just think of all the people you know and how many of them are actually gay.SamWise72 wrote:The sad reality is that lots of boxing fans are from a culture which still villifies homosexuality. Re: Gay boxers.
with respect i think you are well wide of the mark JLP, but not in the way that you probably think.
my view is that most people live...lets call it the "ungay life" - marry in their late twenties, regular job, love sport, the odd night out blah blah blah but with the possibility of a fairly wide discreet sexual life. many men and women have the very occasional fling with their own gender does that make you a set and fixed one thing or another? no, in my view.
i have a gay friend who fancies certain women and has had sexual relationships - ok rarely - with women. in my own early twenties i dabbled a few times on "the wilde side"..i'm now in my 50's and leading a very "ordinary life". there must be millions like me.
in past times people stayed together for life - its not really the case any more - although it can be wonderful to see it still happening with either gender. (one thing that has never changed for me is my love of this sport)
we humans are, or can choose to be, many things over the course of our lives.

Re: Gay boxers.
I'm down with the whole gay thing ('camp' is a different matter entirely, though, I admit), it doesn't bother me and never has and I agree with your general idea that trying to put people into neat little boxes is daft. I just can't see the number as being even close to one in ten, that's all.misterpunch wrote:with respect i think you are well wide of the mark JLP, but not in the way that you probably think.

In the big cities I'd guess it was higher, in the sticks lower.
Re: Gay boxers.
Im old school, heterosexual through and through, seeing blokes holding hands and kissing repulses me. It was adam and eve not adam and steve!!
What people get up to in their houses is their own business, but to openly flaunt their non standard sexual agenda is simply wrong and is often done in public places for effect. I dont snog my mrs while out shopping, but gays seem to think its ok to. Brighton shopping is simply not for me.
before i am hounded off here for being too '80s' then im just saying im entitled to my opinion. and im in the majority with my thoughts.

Re: Gay boxers.
I got used to the men holding hands thing working in the Middle East so that doesn't bother me. Men passionately kissing each other does repulse me, too, though. But I accept it and it doesn't bother me that it happens. That may sound contradictory but it isn't. Gays are what they are and if straight people can passionately kiss each other in public, gays should be able to as well. There are certain foods that turn my stomach but I don't hate those foods and the concept that other people enjoy shoving said foods down their throats.rhino222 wrote:Im old school, heterosexual through and through, seeing blokes holding hands and kissing repulses me.
P.S. the Adam and Eve thing is BS. There have always been gays knocking about the place. What's more, they're good for the economy as most of them don't have kids and they're good spenders.

Most do give a fornicate, its just that in this damned PC world they are afraid to publically give a fornicate. I have no problem with anyone disagreeing or agreeing with my opinions, they are just my opinion. As i said, behind closed doors i am happy for people to play whatever instrument they want to play, personally i prefer to strum a guitar than to blow a cheese bugle!!Superheavy wrote:Disagree that you're in the majority - most people don't give a fcukrhino222 wrote:Im old school, heterosexual through and through, seeing blokes holding hands and kissing repulses me. Maybe in your echo chamber of friends and right wing newspapers but that's not exactly a 'majority'.

I know what you mean, im all for cottaging in public toilets (I think most of us would agree with that) its in an enclosed space, with a gloryhole there for shy guys and iswell out of the sight of the public.
Its these guys that do their "acts" in forests and bushes that disturb me. I remember a family bike ride to Worsley being ruined by a 20 or so men participating in group sex in a clearing near to the bike track.

Why don't you snog the wife when your out shopping? Would you not snog her in public?rhino222 wrote:Im old school, heterosexual through and through, seeing blokes holding hands and kissing repulses me. It was adam and eve not adam and steve!!
