Khan's biggest mistake is that he employed family members and friends to do jobs they are not remotely qualified to do.

His dad especially, is a disaster. They should never put a live mic in that guys hands ever again.

Amir does seem a bit wooden and unnatural in interviews, but he is hardly an unpleasant character.

Compare Khan to Nigel Benn (A dark, disturbing, unpleasant individual) I have never heard anyone say they didn't like Benn because of his character.

It is funny though, always reminds me of the outpouring of grief on boxing forums when convicted wife-beater Diego Corrales 3 times over the limit decided to ride a high performance motorbike and killed himself and endangered other road users in the process, yet Amir Khan is a bastard, a effing BASTARD I TELL YA! and 10 million times worse for....um...running a bloke over.

The fact that some people here find convicted murderers and rapists to be less unpleasant characters than Amir Khan is not exactly a ringing endorsement of Khans promotional team, or the mental state of some posters on here.

KG is correct. Khan's image problem is largely down to the people he has got around him. They're probably decent enough people but you wouldn't give the keys to Sellafield to Katie Price and Louis Spence.

If you are ever in the area (and have had your brain removed) the Sellafield Visitors Center is an unmissable day out.

EDIT: Oh man, i just found out they turned the visitors center into conference facilities. Whats happening to the world i once knew?

Is that code for you haven't got a clue what he's actually like, and you're just going to make sweeping judgements based on media appearances?

Media appearances are what we base 99% of our opinions on when it comes to the bigger names.
Pac-man, Mayweather, Tyson, Bruno, Ali ... we all have pretty defined opinions on them without ever meeting them in person.

Khan isn`t the cleverest person in boxing (media appearance based assumption again) but I could and would never argue he is as brave as any British fighter we have ever produced .. people go on about Froch list of hard fights (rightfully) but Froch had no other option because he wasn`t theat popular. Where as Khan could have stayed at home and fed on easy opponents, but he bit the bullet and went to America.

he's a very good fighter but has been at it for quite a while; he's made pots of money and don't think he'll beat Garcia in a rematch; though Amir is still young he has a lot of milage (and he's a wasteman ).

To be fair to Khan he turned over as a pro quite young, he didn't have the benefit of the current support that top amateurs have now. He was 17 when he won his olympic medal, barely, a senior boxer.

Its to be expected that he's made some stupid decisions - driving dangerously, tweeting stupidly at times and blaming everyone and everything following a loss, but ultimately he is still young and still learning.

But lets face it, after years of hatton defending the WBU belt before stepping up, and Calzaghe only boxing faded legends in America, Khan went out to the states with a US promoter and has given us nothing but big exciting fights and has won a couple of genuine world titles. As a fan you have to respect that more than sitting at home filling up a 20,000 stadium and boxing nobodys whilst promising after every fight that the next one will be the big one.
