S'true, every time either of them went to the cards it was like "Okay then"... I suppose it's because their styles lent themselves to close fights... Scurriers without much power.

They fought a lot in their home towns (esp. Jorrin) & it is therefore natural to see close fight after close fight go their way & think "Hang on a bloody second..." But then again didn't Jorrin get gifts on the road as well (Brodie, first Larios fight if I remember correctly)?

It got so bad, when Ayala fought Morales & got bashed up, when he lasted the distance I half expected to hear "& the winner by split decision... PAULIE AYALA!!!"
Some 'great' memories there. :TU:

I remember Ayala getting a 10-8 round just for landing a decent shot against Bones Adams....So bad it was actually amusing

I'd say the luckiest of all in recent times is Antonio Margarito.

Got caught committing one of the worst acts a boxer can do in having loaded gloves and then returns to big money fights as a villain type against Pacquiao and Cotto.

Don't think there was anything lucky about that.

If someone is stupid enough to give you a wide open target & you're renowned for smashing big holes in things, that doesn't make you "lucky", it makes the other person incredibly thick, imo.

I think he was fortunate to get that fight, given his career apex prior to that was on a dodgy SD win on a FNF card.

Wasn't it Khan's trainer who put BP forward? Shortly to be binned off immediately after...

Hm, but he was brought over as fodder, so the "lucky" part of it would be getting the dodgy SD win on the FNF card (over Richie Abril, I believe, who went on to tan Rios' hide & get robbed). That was the circumstance that involved good fortune, as Khan's handlers saw him & thought "soft touch".

I suppose you could say it's probably Khan's bad luck his trainer only saw the Abril fight, but there you go. I still finding it hard to conceive of what Prescott did as "lucky", despite the unlikely circumstances of him being selected to be a Khan victim in the making.

I suppose it's how you view his fortunes post Khan. If he had not got that initial (seemingly random) break (but bizarrely coming in with a ledger that was something like 20-0 (18)..) you'd have to wonder how his career would have panned out otherwise? Toiling away on FNF cards getting outboxed? Slowly taking a panelling from up and comers.

I think his career trajectory wouldn't have been so "high" had he not got the fight, whereas Khan got a world title shot just 3 fights later.

allegedly had something to do with that - didn't he refuse to allow Prescott to fight in the states, claiming he had options over him.

When you think of what happend to Prescott two fights after Khan - a split decision loss (and floored) Miguel Vasquez.... look how well Vasquez has done since.

Stevie Cruz getting Mcuigan in the conditions he did was quite fortunate.

Maybe Honeygan was quite lucky getting Don Curry right at the time he did. Although it's hard to say with Curry, perhaps Lloyd was just awesome. Curry didn't look all there though.

I guess those are one off lucky fights though rather than being a lucky fighter for a significant part of their career.

Maybe in some ways Lennox Lewis was a lucky fighter. Now I'm a Lennox fan before anyone starts up BUT when you think he didn't fight any of the other main protagnisits of the Heayweight silver era (Bowe, Holyfield, Tyson) until 1999, that probably worked in his favour despite my thinking he actually wanted those fights.

I fancy had he mixed it up with those guys from 94 to 98 Lennox wouldn't have come out unbeaten. Think he would have won some too but the point is none of those guys ever beat him once and it helped he didn't face them until much later in their careers.

in 1994 tyson was still in jail,to be honest tyson wasnt all that after he unified the division, fair enough he was the best out there but who else was there? people say the division is weak now i say it was just as bad when tyson was around. as for lewis I think he would of beat tyson from any time in the time scale you have gave and I think he would of beaten holyfield in that same time scale, the only heavyweight I think would of beat lewis would of been bowe but only the bowe that beat holyfield and that was in 1992-93 so again with your time scale I think lewis would of beat bowe anytime from 94-98. they all peaked at different times even though they are roughly the same age now if you would of said prime for prime tyson would of beaten them all prime for prime, lewis would of only beat holyfield prime for prime imo. from 94-08 lewis would of dismantled the 3 of them :bag:

Would anyone say Nigel Benn was lucky the 3 knockdown rule was in effect against Iran Barkley?
Sounds odd i know, but Iran had just got up from the 3rd knockdown, with 3 seconds remaining in the 1st round, he would of had the minute to recover between rounds. And anything could of happened in the 2nd round.

It wasn't as if he really beat a who's who to earn the 2nd, 3rd and 4th stab at the titles.

I'd take a small amount of issue with this; I think he was still on his way to a win against Witherspoon. The other two, no question you're right.
