2/1 he was with the bookies.
Re: Matt Skelton vs John McDermott this weekend
Am confused how people, inlcuding one of the commentators, thought McDermott was in "good shape"?!
The 12 lbs hes put on is all fat, doesnt look to me like he has an ounze of muscle on his whole body, all fat. Just cos he was slimmer than when he fought Price (he was a disgrace in that, over 19st of pure fat), doesnt mean hes in good shape for a professional sportsman.
I dont understand how being overweight can help him, he isnt a bad boxer, but if he lost a good few stone of fat and put some muscle on, surely he could be a fitter and better fighter.
I'm gutted Skelton lost, just didn't look like he had quite enough in him any more. Wasnt as bad as I thought the fight was going to be to be fair I quite enjoyed it.

This was quite good show and people should give credit to both John and Matt is was a good honest fight with both guys giving there all 1 1 now i ask you the fans should there be a third one or what do you all think ???Wa1nuts wrote:Am confused how people, inlcuding one of the commentators, thought McDermott was in "good shape"?!

What should be John next move and Matt's like to hear you the fan's thinking on these 2
Re: Matt Skelton vs John McDermott this weekend
Congratulations to Mc Dermott hopefully he will be involved in some meaningful defences in the near future there are enough decent UK heavies to really get a buzz going around the division in the UK so lets hope it happens. As for McDermotts weight he was in better shape than normal but he still carries far too much blubber for his own benefit in terms of PR as well as in the ring. He shouldn't be fighting at more than 17 stone 5 if he was really in shape.

Re: Matt Skelton vs John McDermott this weekend
It was a decent enough fight, I had no problems with it at all and its the usual story if John was in better shape he could still give a few of the bigger names a decent fight.
Regarding the question about a third fight, there is no real issue with a third fight but perhaps John would be better moving on, the likes of Sexton and Lewison spring to mind as
good fights that should be made for McDermott. Perhaps if he comes through those two and fights regularly then around Xmas if Price has moved on a vacant title shot for the British
against perhaps Chisora or even Harrison would be an interesting fight. Although both would start favourite over last night's victor, because of there "issues" I don't feel either is a gimmee and
would happily tune in to watch the above.

Big John deserves another shot at the British title. Surely that's what you have in mind, seeing that Price is expected to vacate?FtmPress wrote:What should be John next move and Matt's like to hear you the fan's thinking on these 2

Re: Matt Skelton vs John McDermott this weekend
Get John in with Audley Harrison and put Matt in with Lewison on the same card. Two closely matched fights again IMO.FtmPress wrote:What should be John next move and Matt's like to hear you the fan's thinking on these 2
I think John now has the better of Matt so I don't think a rematch would be competitive.

Re: Matt Skelton vs John McDermott this weekend
Mcdermott has a few option now following this win .
He could look at the Likes of Audley , Towers , Sprott or Lewison .
Dont think he should be boxing Chisora as i dont see that as competitive .
and although it couldnt be an english defence i think Mcdermott vs Rogan is feasible .
Or why not try to get him into the next heavyweight prizefighter ? Audley got a euro title shot off the back of it

i think McDermott vs
Lewison
Sexton
Harrison
all of which would be a good move no need to worry about anything but fighting the british fighters they can still earn good money from that

I'd like to see John fight for the British title again after Price vacates. John's not won the British yet so in my eyes, winning that would be his finest hour. Probably be John's last serious assault right now as well. You'd be looking at McDermott v Towers possibly Chisora for the British, depending on when and if Price vacates. I'd get John out as soon as possible to keep his weight down, I think he knows that it's his last serious chance. In short, out soon enough, fight for the British and should he win that have one shot at the European (he never has) to cap off a good career.FtmPress wrote:What should be John next move and Matt's like to hear you the fan's thinking on these 2
As for Matt, he had some good momentum going last year after he beat Dallas but he's coming off the back of two losses now. He did seem in good shape last night both physically and mentally but he didn't have the extra gear to really go at it. He does have a defeat to Martin Rogan that he could try and rectify, that would be a decent fight. I think Skelton will be about for another year yet, so plenty of undercards for him to be on, still a decent name and after a couple of wins, who knows where he will be and how the heavyweight picture in the UK might be painted. He's certainly a good yard stick for measuring the up and coming fighters like Lewison, Dillian Whyte and Freddie Flintoff (joke).
On another note, any news on when Tom Dallas will be returning, Frank? I think Tom could still be in some good matches. He's only 27, that's 19 years younger than Skelton!

Re: Matt Skelton vs John McDermott this weekend
Actually, just heard that Tom Dallas has signed to Steve Goodwin on a 3 fight deal. So he should be out again soon.
