Re: Burns v Gonzalez plus undercard
Broner lost to Ponce DeLeon before laying nito a heavybag in the form of DeMarco (who Burns would beat easily), and then beats ... Gavin Rees, who looked 3 weight classes apart.
Broner is a hype job with the worst mayweather-shell impersonation since Berto - who is now enough of a Hype job that GBP seen fit to avoid all the real contenders at 140 and give him a prize fight with Malignaggi. I think Malignaggi will shock everyone by exposing Broners technical deffiencies and probably score a boring points win over this hypejob.

Not me, the guy had his chance and he blew it. Burns should move on and unify.columbo wrote:Lets be honest, its never gonna happen in a million years but who would like to see a rematch?

Would he have been world champion if there wasn't 12 belts flying around? No
Is he a good solid, European level fighter? Yes, and he was damn lucky tonight.
Broner would knock out the real problem of boxing - champions who aren't world class. It is like Scotland winning one of 12 versions of the world cup and calling themselves 'world champions'.-fat git
so IYO who are world champs?? (this should be great).
There is 11 world title sanctioning bodies out there today - I have just counted them, and thats the problem and that is why we have the likes of Ricky Burns calling himself 'world champion'.

The IBF has been exposed as criminal racket. How it is still in business I don't fornicating know.
How many types of world champion exist in the WBA alone - I forgot about their
two world champions per weight division - so... that is...
...12 types of world title belt.
It is a disgrace.
You might think it is OK but it is killing our sport.

Re: Burns v Gonzalez plus undercard
People may question Burns ability (personally I feel he is vastly overrated) but you can't question the guys heart and fitness, he got away with one tonight. He admitted in his post-fight interview he needs to go back to the drawing board. Personally, after the heart he showed tonight, I hope he gets a big unification fight and payday.
Gonzalez on the other hand, I think if he improves his fitness he could be one to watch over the next year or two, especially if the likes of Burns and Broner move up. Looked quality until the tank emptied and the debatable injury.

I for one would. Be very interesting to see how Burns would adapt. Gonzalez is a handful regardless of how he bailed.columbo wrote:Lets be honest, its never gonna happen in a million years but who would like to see a rematch?

Do you think I am going to trawl through 12 lightweights who call themselves 'world champion' thats 12 fighters by the way who call themselves the same as Ricky Burns - your point is?

Re: Burns v Gonzalez plus undercard
Well if Burns is some kind of paper champion, what the hell does that actually make a genuine paper champion, like Cleverley?
Burns is a quality fighter. He gutted it out. He won. He will move on. He might lose his next fight but when someone has bottle to burn, I tend to always give them some kind of chance.

Re: Burns v Gonzalez plus undercard
Disagree tonight he showed why he is a champion, he didnt break the guy through luck he broke him mentally through grit and heart. You could tell that kid was quality straight away, burns was being outclassed but to stand there and give it everything you've got and turn a fight like that is what boxing is about. Heart!Fat Git wrote:

So, say he is the third best lightweight in the world, that means he isn't the best in the world
therefore he has no right to call himself 'world champion' it is singular 'world champion' there is only meant to be one. I am a bit old fashioned like that to be fair. I don't want 8 weight divisions back but one champion per division is not much to ask.

If Gonzalez has a genuine injury that forced him to pull out then a rematch might interest me. If he pulled out because he didn't fancy it, then no I wouldn't want to see it again.columbo wrote:Lets be honest, its never gonna happen in a million years but who would like to see a rematch?

Re: Burns v Gonzalez plus undercard
Ricky Burns has the heart and the mindset of a champion.
Gonzalez has long arms and he's well-schooled, but sometimes that's not enough.
In round 7, Gonzalez ran into the stone wall of Ricky Burns determination to win, and couldn't get through it.

As much as I'm willing the smack talk legend Mallignaggi to somehow physically boss and embarrass the humourless, irritating Broner, you can't deny the talent we're dealing with here. Yeah I agree. People saying Broner is a hype job make no sense to me. As much as a cock as he can be, the guy is clearly skilled a very good counter puncher with power.Kilburn wrote:As much as I'm willing the smack talk legend Mallignaggi to somehow physically boss and embarrass the humourless, irritating Broner, you can't deny the talent we're dealing with here.
