His alligences are to Canada and Jamaica. I am sure I read somewhere where he is quoted as saying pretty much this.
There is no such thing as Jamaican 'ethnicity' though, he would be broadly classified as an
Afro-Caribbean. His nationality could be Jamaican though if it wasn't for the fact he was born
and raised in London and has a British passport - unless he has revoked his citizenship.
The point I was attempting to make (albeit, clumsily) was that he is Canadian at heart. He's more Jamaican than he is British.

The issue, for me, wasn't whether he had whatever passport but what he feels his identity is.

The fact is that most of the most people can view sporting figures and teams and appreciate them eitther because they are simply good at what they do OR because they represent your country. It all seems a bit wishy washy to me, with people trying their upmost not to offend anyone.
Oh pardon me Geoffrey Boycott, sorry for breathing! There is nothing complicated about this
one I am afraid - if someone was born and lived life for the first 12 years in England then he is
English. It can't get simpler. He is hardly Bob Hope or Bob Fitzsimmons.
I don't think you read my post correctly, you seem to be agreeing with me and at the same time railing against me.......

Nothing complicated lol.......Oh the irony  Have you actually read the posts on this thread ? Complicated is the word.

That was the whole point of my post.
Your post made no sense and is badly written nonsense.

When the term 'Politically Correct' is used, that flatlines my brain admittedly. If you re-write it again into something that makes sense then I might agree with you. :OhYes:

I go along with that and would also say he might have more than one identity which is common in today's globalised world.

True dat! I forgot. Calzags is English! We let the Welsh claim him!

Anyway, didn't he make a big deal of being Italian? So is Joe Calzaghe Welsh, English or Italian?

Lennox is the omnipresent, avenged brutal defeats and conquered the world. I don't believe in God but if there was one he would be Lennox Lewis.

I'd say he was British as he was born in Britain, and raised in Britain until he was 12. The fact that the Canadians let him represent them just because he lived there at the time doesn't really make much difference to me.

But then, it's not really up to me. Does it really matter where any of us consider Lennox Lewis to be from? It's not like Lennox is going to be reading this going; "I'll consider myself to be from the country the majority of people at Boxrec say I'm from...."

lennox lewis is british imo,i know he went away and learned his trade in canada but so what? the pro game is a business and he and frank maloney used their business brains and made the best money they could at that time. after he got beat by mcCall he had to go the states to perfect his style of boxing,if he had stayed in britain he would never of reclaimed the titles imo

He was conveniently British when he turned professional.

That's not being cynical - it's the truth.

And as a Brit, I was glad of it ! :D

He could fight and carried himself very well as a 'sportsman'.
