That's fair enough, i have seen just over half of his fights and do rate him. It's all opinions and whilst he still has a lot to prove, most observers in the business, aka, Nazim Richardson et el, mark him out as a special talent. Let's see what he does, it will be interesting ride.Horse wrote:I've seen a bunch of his fights and I don't rate him.

On that subject, I would rate his chances of remaining wealthy after he hangs up his gloves at zero, or less than zero if he continues to bring little broner's into the world. That's five women who can bleed him dry for the next 15-20 years. If I was adrien, I'd start getting paid in cashexpe wrote:It's not so much 5 kids, but 5 kids with 5 different women.300 wrote:I don't actually want him to fail, just think he is lacking the mental strength to stay dedicated.SamWise72 wrote:He's good, and at 23, he has plenty of potential to develop. This is borderline trolling. I've slated Broner plenty in this thread and others for his lack of stamina, plodding footwork and epic twatbaggery, but calling him 'crap' when he's moved up 4 weight divisions and is still winning against fringe world class contenders is not justifiable.Horse wrote:Broner is crap, if you've got to promote this dud, then do it on the Current Scene.
He's been exposed, the gig is up, he is ordinary.

He's crap compared to the hype he is still getting. If people spoke about him like he was a decent world class fighter then I wouldn't slate him.dookus wrote:This is borderline trolling. Calling the guy the future of the sport or a top P4P guy is far too much.
Re: Reasons why Broner won't last at the top.
I think Broners caught between being two types of boxers. On one hand he has the natural reflexes, accuracy and the power of an elite boxer, but on the other hand his boxing IQ seems to be that of a low-end fighter, easily confused and pushed back when the opponent goes on the offensive or his attacks don't work. One moment, flashes of brilliance then long spells of nothing and missed opportunities. I think this is why we see (non elite level) guys with nothing more than solid chins and an offensive style able to push him very close such as Paulie and Ponce De Leon etc. Broner just seems lost if the opportunities are not presented to him neatly wrapped with a bow.
I don't know if he will be able to step up as his opponents level and boxing IQ does. From what I've seen so far, I don't think so. That Paulie fight was a real eye opener for me.

Why are you bothered about how other people judge Broner ? Just because some people think he may be the future of boxing or a future p4p fighter doesn't mean you then have to automatically jump into attack mode and denounce him as crap. He isn't crap full stop, especially with what he has achieved up to now at the age he is.Horse wrote:He's crap compared to the hype he is still getting. Re: Reasons why Broner won't last at the top.
It's all down to his shoulder role style and how he uses it. Mayweather uses that style on the defensive, where as Broner uses it on the offensive aswell as the defensive. To counter effectively off it and put some combinations together, he needs to adapt it or move to a hands high style when on the offensive. It's why Broner is reduced to pot shots and one shot counters a lot of the time. He actually switched to a hands high style towards the second half of the fight with Paulie and it became more affective for him. The stance needs to narrow so he can move quickly from jabs and straight right hands, the work rate does need to increase and the shoulder role needs adapting or abandoningwhen on the offensive. Having the shoulder role in an offensive position works when you are fighting a guy like Rees, someone who comes forward is predictable and you can stand in front of him. It doesn't work aswell when you are up against busy fast punchers that you have to chase around the ring. It's then that you need adaptability. Also, Broner does his best work off a busy jab.watson748 wrote:I think Broners caught between being two types of boxers. People are asking the question, they haven't made an announcement on his talent and presented it as a fact. All people have done is looked at what he has achieved and his style of fighting and made comments on how they think he will do in the future. He has had 27 fights and remains unbeaten. Never been bruised up, beat up, cut up, put on the canvas, knock out, gone wobbly, looked under any threat, been overwhelmed............nothing. He also has won three world titles and three different weights, moving through four weight divisions and coming up two weight divisions for the last fight at 23 years of age. He is fullfilling all expectations. Critique of his fighting skills that still need work will happen because of his age. He hasn't been crowned the king of boxing, he hasn't been pronounced as a p4p fighter. He is being touted as the next big talent of the new generation and on that basis, he justifies the hype currently being put about.

He's lost three times according to a lot of people who watched those fights. He has been troubled, because he has not won all of his fights clearly.Quixall wrote:No he isn't..............

He is ranked as a top 10 P4P fighter by The Ring. He hasn't justified being touted as the next big talent because he hasn't clearly beaten anyone that is very good.
Re: Reasons why Broner won't last at the top.
His media persona is conceited and his private behaviour is stupid, he is still young and a 3 weight world champion that has been troubled in 2 bouts (Ponce and Paulie); he is so irritating that I hope he is not the next big thing but can understand why he shouts for attention.Horse wrote:He's lost three times according to a lot of people who watched those fights. People who have a clue about boxing shouldn't be buying into the hype or lying about how great he is like The Ring/Showtime etc.

Re: Reasons why Broner won't last at the top.
I think he COULD go on to be one of the best of his genaration but i think he,ll piss his career away by acting like a dick,he already had an amazing career to date,3 weight champ, not beat any top level fighters yet but still good ones,i think the best thing that could happen to him is that someone beats him convincingly, ideally stops him and that might give him a wake up call and dent his ego, then he can get on with getting to the top and staying there and becoming very rich in the process,he certainly has all the physical attributes, not even his biggest critics can deny that
Re: Reasons why Broner won't last at the top.
Broner is very good but he isn't as good as he thinks he is, he doesn't look to belong at welter and has been 'crowned' heir apparent far too soon. I imagine that boxing doesn't need a new Mayweather; there will be a new top dog that can get the big money and be considered top of the pile, he'll not necessarily have an undefeated record or be a multi weight champion though - these are pretty modern conceits.

Re: Reasons why Broner won't last at the top.
Horse,
You keep saying that he has lost three fights according to "people". The fact remains that he had close fights with Ponce De Leon and Quintero, but beat both of those fighters. By your analogy hundreds of fighters would have lost more than is on their record. The same applies to the Paulie fight, he won, end of. Just admit you can't stand Broner, it's ok, i understand. Me personally, i watch other sports more and boxing isn't my life, i don't delve that much into it, but i like watching certain fighters, but not enough to be saddened if they lost or to let them get under my skin.
Again, he has won three world titles at three different weights and he is 23 years of age. He has moved through four weight divisions and won his last belt after coming up two weight divisions. He isn't seen as a p4p fighter at all. He isn't seen as an alite fighter yet. He is a world class fighter that people are touting as POSSIBLY being the one of the next generation of gifted fighters to equal previous generations. People aren't stupid. They know he has fought tough durable fighters, rather than gifted experienced p4p ranked fighters, which is why the hype surrounds his POTENTIAL and not waht he is now.
He hasn't been put in trouble. The Quintero and De Leon fights were down to work rate and the shoulder role tactic, something which i keep saying. He hasn't been out thought, out classed in any fight to date. He hasn't lost, he hasn't been beaten up, he hasn't been cut or wobbled, had to cover up, been overwhlemed etc etc. He isn't like Khan who has hype and yet looks in big trouble every other fight he enters. Brook is 26 and hasn't even fought for a world title yet. Broner has been given the opportunities, yes, but you still have to take advantage of those opportunities.

Re: Reasons why Broner won't last at the top.
They can't have a new Mayweather, because Mayweather is a one off. Broner generates the media coverage and the media are happy to play along. Even the biggest idiot can see he has talent and is gifted. Sure, he needs work, but he is still a work in progress. His stance needs to alter, the shoulder role needs to be limited to defensive work and his general punch out put needs to be higher, along with using a jab more often. Boxing is bulit largely on arrogance, humility isn't the stock in trade in this sport. A lot of people don't like Broner and so concentrate on his deficiencies and ignore his talents, so he just ends up dividing opinion, not so much on his talent, but on the back of his personality.palooka wrote:Broner is very good but he isn't as good as he thinks he is, he doesn't look to belong at welter and has been 'crowned' heir apparent far too soon. I scored in favour of both Malignaggi (close) and De Leon (wide). He didn't win either of those fights in my opinion. Most people gave Broner the Malignaggi fight, but most people gave the De Leon fight to De Leon.Quixall wrote:Horse,

You might respect the judges decision more than the people's scorecard or your own, but I don't.
You are wrong. People are rating him as a top P4P fighter and they are ignoring his weaknesses.Quixall wrote:Again, he has won three world titles at three different weights and he is 23 years of age. Re: Reasons why Broner won't last at the top.
Broner is obviously playing the heel. He is genuinely talented and ambitious. Mayweather seems to have gone through different marketing confections and his persona has altered to appeal to those who want him to get beat and those who want to see him win. If Broner sticks around the networks will do the same for him. I agree that his unappealing media persona 'makes' people see his talent in a lesser light; if he cleans up at welter in an impressive fashion he'll gain a lot of fans - he seemed to be a big man boiling down and taking advantage. (I have to say that he did praise Gavin Rees in an after bout interview for British TV, he was pretty gracious and stopped for the 'chat' when he wasn't required/contracted to.
