Price will be looking to box at a distance, but I can't see that chin holding out for long, especially as TT knows it won't take much to have the big man wobbling like a drunken sailor.

The Jonathan Banks result was a worry though, hopefully they don't have the same mananger.
See, although we know there are question marks surrounding DP's chin, I think people are getting a little ahead of themselves with respect to expecting TT to find his chin and put him down.

That didn't even happen in the first fight. TT landed a blow on the left side of DP's head and perforated his eardrum, and having suffered this myself once playing rugby, I can promise you that not only does it hurt, but first comes the loss of balance and all co-ordination which is what we saw with Price. He wasn't hurt when he was stumbling around on the canvas and struggling to stand upright. TT hadn't 'done a number' on his chin and I don't think we ought to suspect DP's chin any more than we did before the first fight. The shot landing was no fluke, but the damage it did was.

Anyone who caught that shot would be susceptible to the same fate. Regardless of your mental toughness or heart to carry on, if your balance is shot you've had it.

DP will try to imitate a Wladimir style jab and keep TT on the end of it. A cautious DP UD or late KO/TKO for me
Er, no. Froch had his ear perforated early on against both Glen Johnson and Pascal; he managed to carry on, albeit somewhat more sluggishly. Why? Cos he has a good chin.

Even if we ignore the Thompson defeat, Price got bounced off the canvas more than enough as an amateur to suggest his chin is poor.

I'm really rooting for Price but his back is well and truly up against the wall here.
Tiger Tony will be eager to test David above the neck region.

I'm to put £10 on Thompson inside; he is not a massive one punch hitter but has proven he hits plenty hard enough to put David down; if the punch he landed on Price' ear had landed on his chin then it would have been a clean KO. Price seems a very decent sort and has shown a lot of courage taking this rematch, in front of his people. It'l be nail biting stuff; if Price does hit and move will it encourage Thompson (who seems a very intelligent and diligent professional). Both deserve a lot of respect.

Darren Barker suffered the same fight-ending injury against Martinez and nobody questioned his chin or mocked him for not carrying on. Martin Gethin's fight came to an end after his eardrum was perforated against Ammeth Diaz. Darren Hamilton's defence against Steve Williams was postponed because Darren perforated his eardrum. Yet none of these fighters are considered 'chinny'. I'm not in any way saying those fighters are in the same league as Froch as clearly they aren't, and massive respect to him for carrying on after sustaining it, he's as hard as they come, we all know that. But I am saying that this injury can and does end fights and a fighter shouldn't be mocked for succumbing to such an injury. Yes there are questions surrounding Price's chin, but I'm just furthermore pressing my point that a fluke ear injury that could happen to anyone does not raise any more questions or doubt over his chin than we already had prior to the fight.

I'm not suggesting Price is the next Wlad, far from it in fact. But I've no doubt the same people doubting Price had very similar views after seeing Wlad hugging the canvas after a two round mauling at the hands of Corrie Sanders. He just needs to develop a style to make his inability to take a punch irrelevant.

Massive respect to Price for taking this fight so soon after.

It partly comes from being rocked and floored numerous times in the Amateurs. I remember for instance him having a life and death struggle against some unknown Indian boxer in the Commonwealth Games. There were numerous other incidents that paint a picture.

I am suspecting the TT will be in better condition and would have trained a lot harder then the last time. TT will be even more up for it this time.

I am sorry people, but my spider senses are telling me that Price is not going to have a easy night!! Win lose or draw.

:TU:

He was put on the canvas 3 times by Varghese Johnson in the Commonwealth semi finals. Whilst wearing headgear.

But I think the most significant evidence it was not a fluke is that the shot and the legs giving way was exactly the same as when Tyson Fury floored him in the ams: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FToTaFBpdx4

This is what makes me think the 'perforated eardrum' may well have been a smokescreen by Maloney.

Unless Fury also perforated his eardrum through headgear?

Seriously ? Barker's KO was nothing like the Price one at all. Darren headed for the canvas voluntarily, he'd just had enough. There's nothing wrong with Baker's punch resistance, his reaction was completely different to Price.

If you're buying the Maloney line that it was a freak ear injury ( what else are they going to say ? ) then fine, I've got a bridge you might be interested in buying too :D

I was having this argument about the Price chin on here BEFORE the "freak" Thompson loss anyway, so there's no way I'll be buying that line.

Look at it this way, think of all the 1000's of good and great fighters considered to have decent chins - who have never reacted to a shot like that - do you seriously think that none of them were ever hit in the same spot ? Of course they were - difference is, they could hold a decent shot, be it on the top of the head, side of the head, or bang on the chin.

You can either take a good shot, or you can't - and Price, unfortunately for him, definitely can't. That's a dead cert.

If Price weren't such a likable 'everyman' then we'd all be laughing about it; because he seems so decent and unassuming there are many who throw mitigating circumstances and excuses in. Thompson is not a massive hitter and the punch that finished the last bout was a reflex shot; it wasn't set up and primed. The odds against Thompson repeating a stoppage win seem long to me so I'm to have a little bit. Amateur and pro, how many times has Price been stopped or counted out? That is a major factor; he is tremendous on the front foot and has every advantage going but the achilles heel is the punch resistance and any world class heavyweight hits hard enough to really put a dent in him.

MightyWarrior, don't you think the shot that KO'd Price was so innocuous that there must be something in the ear injury excuse? I've watched that punch so many times that I'm clinging to this idea that if he really was KO'd by a shot like that then he'd never have gotten this far.

I mean being chinny is one thing. Yes, some boxers are susceptible but there seemed so very little on that punch. Guess we'll find out....

You have a point there, how could he have gone so long without getting flattened ? ...well I'm not sure I've ever seen him hit in the pros, he's such a puncher himself it's usually over pretty fast.

Though when a fighter is chinny, it's often the punch that looks like nothing that brings trouble. Remember the big hope of UK boxing in the 80's, Errol Christie, was flattened in a shocker by a punch that looked like nothing...it was thought to be a freak result, but soon enough it proved a major flaw.

Anyway, I really hope Dave wins tomorrow night, he's terrific to watch. He might even land first and get sweet revenge. Gonna be nerve racking to watch....

Thompson - 259lbs
Price - 250lbs

So Thompson only a little bit lighter and Price about the same as he always weighs in.

I'll be keeping my cash in my pocket for this one, lots of value about but i will be supporting price and don't want to go against him in the market. Plenty of other shite for me to vet on and lose tomorrow without getting as pissed off as I would have if price loses and I backed him

This is what Boxing should be all the time; not confidently being able to predict the outcome beforehand.

Kudos to Price for getting an immediate rematch; usually people need a few "warm ups" before they get their ass handed to them again but good stuff!

You can get 5/1 online too.

People forget Thompson made the 11th against Wlad first time around. The reason I thought he would get stopped last time was that his weight seemed an indication he was there for the payday (which was obviously wrong). I've been thinking I'll have a nibble at Price to win on points all week.

I actually think Thompson was there for the payday first time round yet the chance came ( not really a chance as such! ) and he took it.

He looks in better shape for this one apparently and will fancy his chances of a repeat I reckon. Surprised he didn't look for a bigger fight immediately after stopping Price to be honest. He must be getting well paid for this one, hopefully not 'too well paid'

I agree! I think Thompson looks a lot slimmer (in the face) and looks up for it, I was impressed at how relaxed and confident he was talking to Bunce last Saturday, I thought he came across really well

He is crafty and knows he has the one punch to do price so I could see both with the high guard with Price winning most of the rounds but ultimetely him getting caught and Thompson winning by ko

Thompson KO for me. Irrespective of the 'freak' shot which nailed Price last time, Tony was more than competitive prior to landing the finishing blow. Price's shots were too ponderous and Thompson was swiftly countering them. Speed will win the fight for Thompson tonight, irrespective of whether Price's chin holds up.

I'm on Thompson myself. I just think hes the better fighter here. Better athlete as well, despite Price looking much better physically. Price is very stiff and as far as technical boxing skills go, I don't think hes as good as thompson. I've just taken the 3/1 outright as I really think Price is going to be very very cautious and gun shy. He won't want to get embarrassed like that again and he won't be taking any chances. It will be jab jab jab all night with the rare right hand thrown in. Thompson may just nick the rounds or they'll be competitive at least. Obviously the robbery is a real concern. He was competing with Wladimir in their rounds for the most part. So I reckon 3/1 is quite decent. When we talk about Prices power, we also have to talk about his chin. It's only going to take one from Thompson. Keep in mind that Thompson took a flush right hand from Wlad and got up and showed the survival skills to survive the round. So I think the wiley old veteran might have something up his sleeve in this fight. He could get knocked out of course, but I don't see how anyone can take odds on on price after he was knocked out with an arm punch and is facing the same, more experienced superior athlete here again.
