David Price vs Oliver McCall next???
Re: David Price vs Oliver McCall next???
Price was a proven entity at a certain level; dropping below that level betrays his proven talent. He has not been good enough to handle fringe world class and needs to regroup; a bout against a target would do nothing to assuage his confidence or the public. If he knocked out Joe Palooka in his next bout in 20 seconds it would do nothing for him; he didn't lose his nerve v Thompson in the dressing room or on the way to the ring; he was knocked out/stopped in the bout. He doesn't need to start again at the lowest possible place; what does that show to himself and to others? He coped very well at British Title level and there's no one around there to push him really as Fury and Haye have bigger fish to fry.
Re: David Price vs Oliver McCall next???
Alexander Dimitrenko would be a good fight for him. A former european champion who has just fallen short beyond that. A solid, technically good fighter though.palooka wrote:Price was a proven entity at a certain level; dropping below that level betrays his proven talent. You're preaching to the converted columbo; it's horse that needs bringing into the fold. If Price were to face a knock over there would be plenty pay to see through local loyalty and personal like; the subscriptions I pay to the TV channel will also support it; it wouldn't be a contest or sporting; Price is big enough and ugly enough to give it a go against someone in his class for the money he's paid.columbo wrote:Alexander Dimitrenko would be a good fight for him. Re: David Price vs Oliver McCall next???
Yeah I dont want to see Price fighting complete stiffs or boxers way past their sell by dates because he fell short against Thompson. Ive watched Thompsons fights against Wladimir and whilst Wladimir was controlling the fights, it wasnt a complete walk in the park for him. He had to really concentrate in the fights. I think Thompson put up a better effort than a lot of the guys Wlad has been in with.palooka wrote:You're preaching to the converted columbo; it's horse that needs bringing into the fold. Chisora can push him and quite likely beat him. Sprott and maybe Rogan could cause him problems.palooka wrote:Price was a proven entity at a certain level; dropping below that level betrays his proven talent. Price didn't clean house at domestic level, he just beat 4 lower top 10 British fighters. He should go back to that level and not above for now.

Yes, he's a great opponent if you want Price to get beaten again.columbo wrote:Alexander Dimitrenko would be a good fight for him. A former european champion who has just fallen short beyond that. A solid, technically good fighter though.
Re: David Price vs Oliver McCall next???
Dimitrenko is not that great. He's not a massive puncher either. He's not the strongest mentally either and his chin is somewhat suspect.Horse wrote:Yes, he's a great opponent if you want Price to get beaten again.columbo wrote:Alexander Dimitrenko would be a good fight for him. Neither is Price.columbo wrote:Dimitrenko is not that great.
Dimintreanko is better than anyone Price has beaten.columbo wrote:He's not a massive puncher either. He's not the strongest mentally either and his chin is somewhat suspect.
When you get stopped and humilated twice in a row, you do not immediately face someone who is better than anyone that you have beaten as a pro in your next fight.

I wasnt saying it had to be his first fight back.Horse wrote:Neither is Price.columbo wrote:Dimitrenko is not that great.

Then why are you mentioning him?columbo wrote:I wasnt saying it had to be his first fight back.

Because it could be his second fight back.....Horse wrote:Then why are you mentioning him?columbo wrote:I wasnt saying it had to be his first fight back.
Re: David Price vs Oliver McCall next???
Still too soon. Dimitrenko is a top 20 fighter in the world, Price should be aiming lower.columbo wrote:Because it could be his second fight back.....
Re: David Price vs Oliver McCall next???
Mcall could cause another embarrassment if he hit price on the chin.i really don't know how price rebuilds??
He has pultherizing power & the attributes but hasn't hot the toughness & he can't fight going backwards.

Re: David Price vs Oliver McCall next???
he didn't clean up at British level but before the first Thompson bout was seen as head and shoulders above everyone except Haye; he had gone through his opponents so easily that the next logical step was to leave the British level behind and push straight on for a real world level ranking; that was a clear mistake. Price certainly belongs in the British and Euro mix and may improve enough to make another push up the rankings; I'd be surprised if he does manage it though - it does look a big ask.Horse wrote:Chisora can push him and quite likely beat him. He wasn't considered to be head and shoulders above Fury and Chisora.palooka wrote:he didn't clean up at British level but before the first Thompson bout was seen as head and shoulders above everyone except Haye;
That wasn't logical, that was stupid. Beating English title level opponents didn't mean Price was ready for a world top 15 level, heavyhanded opponent.palooka wrote:he had gone through his opponents so easily that the next logical step was to leave the British level behind and push straight on for a real world level ranking; that was a clear mistake.

Myself i think Rogan is the ideal opponent .
I dont believe he can beat price , will still be a credible name though .

Price was considered above Fury and the feeling was that Fury had ducked Price and given up his title, rather than face him; Fury had beaten Chisora.Horse wrote:He wasn't considered to be head and shoulders above Fury and Chisora.palooka wrote:he didn't clean up at British level but before the first Thompson bout was seen as head and shoulders above everyone except Haye;

Price had battered the British boxers he had faced; people reckoned he had deadly power and would give either Klitsko a go; that wasn't in the distant past either; he was considered above the Euro opposition and his camp and advisers obviously thought so; they didn't put him in there to lose now did they?
Re: David Price vs Oliver McCall next???
Both Fury and Chisora were considered to be above Price by many people. Very few considered Price to be "head and shoulders" above either of them. Those that did think that he was well above their level were daft.palooka wrote:Price was considered above Fury and the feeling was that Fury had ducked Price and given up his title, rather than face him; Fury had beaten Chisora.
Price had done nothing to suggest that he was above European level.palooka wrote:Price had battered the British boxers he had faced; people reckoned he had deadly power and would give either Klitsko a go; that wasn't in the distant past either; he was considered above the Euro opposition and his camp and advisers obviously thought so; they didn't put him in there to lose now did they?
Re: David Price vs Oliver McCall next???
Then why did his handlers and braintrust search for an opponent as skilled as Thompson? The talk was of how well Price had acquitted himself in various sparring encounters with very highly ranked heavyweights. If they didn't think he was ready for the move up why did they move him; why did't they take the steadier route?Horse wrote:Both Fury and Chisora were considered to be above Price by many people. Beating Audley Harrison doesn't mean you are ready for anyone. Absolutely clueless.
Re: David Price vs Oliver McCall next???
I think Zack Page or Zuri Lawrence would be good opponents for his next 2 comeback fights. Neither has any power, both have decent chins, both have decent skills. They'd give Price both rounds and plenty to think about; maybe this would help him learn to relax in there while figuring his opponent out. Both have also got good stamina; as this is an area Price needs to work on, they'd test his ability to fight at a decent pace for 10 rounds without threatening to chin him.

If they've got no power then what has Price to think about? He can do what he wants to them; if he can't cope with a boxer with power then he is not cut out for the game at the higher levels.

Re: David Price vs Oliver McCall next???
But it was not big punches from Thompson that did for him. ANY punches would have stopped him, he had absolutely nothing left.dookus wrote:I think Zack Page or Zuri Lawrence would be good opponents for his next 2 comeback fights. Re: David Price vs Oliver McCall next???
He had nothing left mainly as a result of being far too stiff and tense while fighting; a great deal of that tenseness came from the knowledge that Thompson could take him out as he had done before. A fight with a non-puncher might be the ideal situation in which to practice fighting looser and not running out of gas.mickey1975 wrote:But it was not big punches from Thompson that did for him. He has to think about trying to hit them, for starters! They're both pretty skilled technicians and they'll give him rounds. Of course if he can't cope with power at all he's not going to make it at the top end, but we're talking about comeback fights designed to build confidence and experience. He'll never have a good chin, but one thing Price can work on is relaxing in there while thinking, figuring out his opponent and not taking too many shots - he needs time with light punching opponents to develop that experience.palooka wrote:If they've got no power then what has Price to think about?
