What I am saying is he has to prove that he can beat a true proven fighter. If he can do that with Pulev, my hats off to him, but Pulev is going to eat Thompson alive. Thompson ought to be trying to establish his dominance as the top American heavyweight---- he should be challenging the likes of Deontay Wilder (who is still unproven), Bryant Jennings (who is also unproven), etc. and seeing how well he can do with those guys who are far better boxers than Price---- even though they are unproven to a point. Never forget, this was a man who was brought in to be a sacrficial lamb not once but twice against Price. A win over a hype job doesnt prove you are back in the game, it just means awful matchmaking from Maloney.
Thompson is in 40's he has no reason to prove he's the best heavy. Based on resume which matters he already is. For him its about 'cashing out' or get a belt its not about proving
himself to American heavyweight who haven't proved anything.
He beat Price not a great win but a better win than any other US heavyweight so why take a step back
Then there is your answer. Don't look at this man as being anything else but a man who is trying to cash out. However, business wise he must not be as saavy as he is in the ring---- because Team Fury offered him $800,000 (Thompson got $400,000 to rematch Price) and he's wanting Pulev rather than Hughie? Doesnt make much damn sense does it.
Do u really think Fury a 6 round fighter who hasn't even made that in his career. The all of sudden offer him 800K for against a 6 round fighter who never held to sell tickets was legit offer come on dude get real.

The same Hughie Fury that has a cousin earning £5m for a fight on that bill may have something to do with the cash plus they have funded all their fights obviously not to that degree, but they have faith in Hughie and if Peter Fury believes he is ready for Thompson so do I.

What his cousin makes has nothing to do with Hughie and his fights if that's the case the could have got better opponents with the fights he already had. With a tenth of that money they could get almost any other heavy in the world. Why Thompson for 800Kif that's the case I'm pretty sure a lot of top 20 heavy would take a fight with him for that type lets see if he pays his next opponent that type of money.

They all stick together that's why his cousin has everything to do with it and why Thompson maybe because to UK fans he is one of the best heavyweights around after beating Price twice and he is highly ranked and if Hughie beat him which they obviously think he can, he would be a world level fighter with a year left to break Tyson's record.

What have you seen Hughie do in the ring that makes you think he is ready for Thompson?

I am not saying I believe he is ready from what i've seen he can obviously box his power seems ok not sure how it stacks up against real fighters, but if Peter Fury thinks he is ready then he must be look how long it took Tyson Fury to step up to world level and why would Peter throw him into a fight they are mainly paying for to get beat?

Hughie wouild get completely dominated in that fight mate. 100%. He wouldn't have a hope in hell against Thompson.

It isn't going to happen for now anyway, but I'm sure the Fury's will keep trying.

I'm very skeptical of the 800k figure, especially since it's coming from a Fury cheerleader and not a reputable source.

Peter Fury stated they couldn't match another offer Thompson received, but I doubt he's getting more than 800k to fight Pulev or was offered more than 800k by any other fighter. Thompson also made close to that figure in his first title shot and not significantly more in his second title shot, and I'd be very surprised if Hughie and Pulev's backers can pay similar money for undercard bouts and eliminators as one earns from a mandatory shot against Klitschko.

Theres no way Hughie will get put in with Thompson, they,ll move him along in a near identical fashion to Tyson, after all Hennessey has done a great job with him so far despite endless calls to put him in with every tom, dick and harry this and the other side of the pond, its a great blueprint, let Prices lesson be a warning to every promoter trying to rush a fighter,David Price only had about 13 fights and got put in with someone who challenged for the world heavyweight championship in his previous bout, now granted i thought Price was good enough to beat Thompson at this stage but hey im not a promoter with 30 years experience

so do u think 800k was actually offered? And if so he should be able to offered to other top 20 hwy right? If his team think
he can beat Thompson I'm pretty sure they think they can beat other world class heavys. So with 800k it shouldn't be hard to find an world class opponent next if he was serious.

I'm sure we'll see, but if you think about it someone offering you that much money to fight an 18 year old kid where you wouldn't earn anything boxing wise from it they will avoid him.

Tony Thompson is defiantly the wrong move for Hughie Fury if im honest. Regardless if people think Thompson is overrated which i dont by the way he is still levels above Hughie. Could be a fight down the line for Tyson Fury if he wins or loses to David Haye. Before a shot at Wladimir.

Hughie Fury needs to build and he has been incredibly busy which I like. Maybe Darren Corbett for the Irish Heavyweight Championship would be a good and gradual step up. Other names you could throw in the hat are John McDermott for the English Heavyweight Championship, Hari Miles has fought at Heavyweight and for decent money im sure would step up. Very awkward fighter who Hughie should beat and would also learn alot. Martin Rogan is also a name you could throw in the hat for Irish title.

There is some good building fights for Hughie to be honest where eventually he could step up the level to Matt Skelton, Sam Sexton, Ian Lewisham and Tom Dallas when he is aiming for British Level.

Hughie has Shane McPhilbin next and that is considered a step-up.

You do the maths!

The problem with Price is that his team along with Maloney thought he was next Wlad based on him destroying domestic level opposition! They got sucked into all the hype which was stupid. There's a big difference between beating the likes of Sexton and Mcdermott and a 400 yr old Skelton and beating world class fighters and they found that out to there detriment. Price had never been tested! His chin hadnt been tested and he didnt have someone in front of him who was big enough or good enough to see if he could cut it at the top level. He should of been put in with Dimitrenko or someone like that before the likes of Thompson to see how he done. He still probably would of failed but then again maybe he just wasnt good enough or durable enough at that level. I think it was more the latter.

As i said i got caught up in the hype too but obviously i was still unsure about Price having not done 12 rounds and having someone test his chin but i,like Maloney and co,was banking on Thompson coming over for 1 last payday, then when he came in at a career high i thought, well by the time Tony gets into his terrotiry(second half of fight) David will already have him there for the taken and stop him

Wrong again me ;;-)

The thing with Thompson I think is that he looks pretty uncoordinated and ungainly but he's actually a pretty intelligent boxer. He's not that easy to land on atleast with regularity and even Wlad found that in the two fights he had with him. Whilst he evetually took him out, quite a few of the rounds were quite close.

Yeah he,s deceptively good, arguably still No1 in the States, although i thought when i watched the Wlad rematch it was more to do with Klitchko carrying him for a few rounds coupled with the fact that Thompsons awkwardness could be due to the fact he wasnt willing to take any chances

I remember being glad he eventually got KO,D by Wladamir in the first bout as he didnt even try to become World champ then IMO

Yeah he's quite defensively sound is Thompson. Offensively he doesnt look great a lot of the time but he's good at evading shots.

Yeah he is what he is,take Kevin Johnson for instance didnt even try to beat Vitali,a victory for him was going the distance, blah who cares do we really wanna see him be world champ :?? but when you get David Haye,Cris Arreola etc fighters who are bashing their way to a title shot just freeze :witzend: then you get mediocre fighters like Chisora getting mega exposure coz he at least tried to beat Vitali, when really he,s nothing more than European level boxer
