Ask the average person who's Muhammad Ali..."One of the best Heavyweight Champions of all time, a Boxing Legend"
Ask the average person who's Ingemar Johansson..."Never heard of him"
What a crock of sh*t. 11,000 people ain't going to see any fighter at a f*cking airport. There might've been 11,000 people at the airport that day, but I'm sure they were all doing things like...ya know boarding flights.Il Duce wrote:Bobby PSTD,..........Very Wrong,

Ingemar Johansson,
"More people showed up to meet me at at the Miami International Airport {11,000} on January 19, 1961
then went to the Sonny Liston - Cassius Clay fight at the Convention Center in February 1964 {8200}."
Ingemar Johansson,
"I had more people show up to my sparring sessions, than Clay had at his Championship Fights. He is
far from popular. He has to make people hate him to draw a gate."
That Was A True Fact in 1965.
The Band A-ha drew over 100,000 people at a concert in Norway. They're hardly one of the most popular bands of all time. They were just...Norwegian. Can you see where I'm going with this?Il Duce wrote:G-Man,

Cassius Clay couldn't draw that if he fought every night for a Month in 1965.

Sunday Night - September 14, 1958..............
Nya Ullevi Stadium - Gothenburg, Sweden
The 53,164 Swede's stormed the beautiful outdoor stadium, with another 15,000
attempting their best to enter to see the #1 Ranked 'unbeaten' Eddie Machen take
on their home-country Hero - Ingemar 'Ingo' Johansson.
Over 500,000 Swede's tried to get to tickets to this event, and it appeared that everyone
from this beautiful city of Gothenburg {Population; 410,000} situated on the Southwest
Coast of Sweden was either in the Nya Ullevi Stadium or outside around the perimeter of
the Stadium, listening to the events that developed inside.
The cool night temperature of 53* was the 'perfect setting' for this spectacular event.

Take On Me..........
Ingemar Johansson {July 1965}
"Cassius Clay can't draw flies to a garbage dump. 2500 people in Lewiston, Maine.
An utter joke."
I do, he wasn't even an active fighter anymore. His last fight was 1963klompton wrote:I dont have any problem believing that Johannson was a better draw in 1965 than Ali was. Johannson was doing big numbers against relatively weak competition in Europe. While Ali's first bout with Liston drew less than 9000 people and his second bout drew less than 3000. The second Patterson Johannson fight pulled in around 40,000. The third bout pulled in around 14,000. So within the context of that moment in time Johannson was probably correct.

Don't ever go against 'a-Ha',
They drew a 'Record' of 195,000 at the Maracanda Stadium in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil in 1993.
The same place that told Muhammad Ali to take his 'Circus Act' somewhere else in 1980.
They didn't want that 'garbage' in their pristine Stadium.

I don't mind going against him at all if there's a valid reason. He's not one of my favorite fighters. Not even close in fact.Il Duce wrote:Mr. G,
It's OK, you can go against Cassius Clay/Muhammad Ali at least once in a while.
It won't hurt..............all you have to do is say 'a-Ha'
