The only point I can agree with you on is that this is not soley Klitschko's fault. He will use this illegal scam so long as the officials allow it and he keeps winning. The Ref MUST be held accountable for allowing such a blatantly illegal move done with such regularity and without any shame. I still can't believe Povetkin's corner weren't screaming holy hell at the ref. I know we were while watching it. And officials of the governing body should highlight such a blatant illegal breach of the rules it in order to save the reputation of the HW world title as an event worth watching.
The heavyweight scene is bigger in Europe than at any point in history. Tickets were changing hands for astronomical prices in the run up to Saturday. It was a capacity crowd. The purse bid was in excess of 20 million dollars and didn't require PPV. Over 100 million watched the fight across Europe on free to air TV.

As I keep saying, people in the West (and by West I mean the UK and North America) should stop decrying the globally extremely popular Klitschkos and concentrate on producing guys who can put up a decent challenge to their supremacy.

so because of their popularity, nobody should complain that Wlad consistently cheated and was allowed to get away with it. I would do the same if any fighter flagrantly cheats and gets away with it, I don't give a toss how successful, how popular, or where they are based, there are rules, and unless the referee applies them correctly and consistently, then it makes a mockery of the sport.
I think Aden has actually convinced himself Wlad did no wrong and is a boxing master. He probably has him in the all-time heavyweight top ten. Why? Maybe because of his popularity!

Wlad might as well just incorporate kicks into his act, or ground and pound, since his apologists aren't going to be turned now whatever he does. And when the referee turns a blind eye and sees Wladdy through to the end Klitschko's detractors will still clearly just be jealous of his popularity and massive wealth.

if you watch the bowe gonzales fight in the 90's you will see a carbon copy of how the fight would of happened if bowe would of met klit. bruno, lewis, holyfield, witherspoon of the 90's would of done him, gonzalez himself would of done klit, tyson would of eat him up big time with uppercuts and hooks, klit wouldnt of landed a glove on iron mike.

Richie Woodhall (as per) and Paul Dempsey have just done a very good job of breaking the fight down on BT Sport. I slightly disagree with Richie on a couple of points but on the whole he had it about right i.e. Wlad does what he does well and it's up to the referees to decide what's cheating and what isn't, not Wlad, and he can only beat the guys put in front of him.

Bruno could just as easily have been done as done Wlad - Bruno could be hurt, but to be fair, he did have by far the better jab of the two, and interestingly Bruno had a slightly, though only slightly longer reach. Bruno and Wlad were very similar in that they turned helpless when hurt, the difference is, Wlad learnt to hold on when buzzed, whereas Bruno never did, or couldn't.

Wlad is good at what he does, no doubt, but the current talent pool is incredibly shallow - evidenced by the fact that someone as piss poor and inexperienced as Fury is being touted as a serious challenger.

I don't think anyone here disagrees with that - It's rather sad that the current dominant heavyweight takes such a terribly negative stance, people used to complain about Lennox Lewis - but compared to Wlad, he's like Jack Dempsey. Is Wlad THAT scared of being engaged in anything approaching an actual fight, that he feels he has to hold on like an amarous teenager at a school dance the whole way through the fight.

That a referee would allow a heavyweight title fight to be so marred is frankly a terrible indictment of the sport and it's flaws. Can you imagine if in the wimbledon Final, Nadal was allowed on occasion to allow the ball to bounce twice before hitting it back - it would be a mockery, that is what this is.

There needs to be consistency in refereeing - the fact of the matter is, all too often, one fighter is allowed to get away with murder, because they are perceived to be the house fighter, and the fact is, the referee knows subconsciously that if they allow leniency to the perceived star, they will get hired by the promotional outfit again - it happens time and time again. The referee knows all too well that the rules are being bent, but just allows it to go on, so as not to interrupt 'the script.'

That's how it is, and that's how it's always been, and it's one of the things that has always sickened me about the sport. I love to watch a great fight, but this kind of thing angers me immensely. Anyone who thinks that the fight was fair, and the rules were applied correctly, is either mental, deluded or biased.

It's kind of like flogging a dead horse at this stage. For some reason nearly half the people in the thread either can't see it or refuse to see it.

It would appear so my friend - this isn't about Wlad really, it's about the fact that allowing such things to transpire without penalty is a travesty. I'm not here to bash Wlad per se, I'm angry with him to an extent for his negativity, but I'm far more angry with the referee, had he taken control of the situation early in the fight, given him a warning, and then a second, and then docked him a point - as a good referee with balls should do, then the fight would have been entirely different, because Wlad would have either have had to use his guard, parry the punches, move his feet, or keep Povetkin at bay with the jab, rather than throwing a shot from long range, then tying him up as soon as he got close.

Watch round 2 of Duran-Leonard. The ref pretty much allows Leonard to go barnacle on Duran. Ray was never going to get a point deducted though. If the ref had stopped him holding Duran would have finished him in the round.

Wladimir was a complete and utter disgrace and the referee even more so. Absolutely appalling.

Povetkin came to fight, but Wladimir blatently cheated his way through the entire fight and the referee let him do as he pleased. Wladimir was a dreadful, dreadful advertisement for the sport. He should have been pelted out of the arena.

His opponents simply have to match fire with fire and fight dirty back.

How many fans must be praying he gets sparked ASAP.

Ive always been one of Wlads supporters on here, purely just out of respect for his dominance and comebackability and ive always known he clearly bends the rules and uses his size, weight and strength to his benifit but he,s not alone there..

But im sorry Saturday was a disgrace,it was blatant cheating and i dont know if im more pissed off with him or that fvcking sorry case for a ref, either way it cant be allowed to be that bad again and he should be warned about his future conduct

On a sidenote i wish Povetkins corner took some sort of stand halfway through the fight to help there man out and maybe inform the referee that Wladamir was cheating as the referee clearly didnt understand the rules and if he did,he was clearly not arsed about it as nobody bothered to complain

I can almost understand Povetkin himself not wanting to waste energy by complaining, but if his corner had any interest in their fighter's chances whatsoever they would have been pleading with the ref to wake up in between rounds. Baffling.

I can only assume Povetkin's entourage were just caught up in the same stagnant 'turn up, throw a few punches, then leave with paycheque' mindset that has plagued all the bums masquerading as 'challengers' in recent years.

The context, if you read the original post, is that he is easily the worst ever in terms of entertainment value - surpassing even Ruiz and Akinwande. Telling that you choose to ignore this, along with so many other facets of Klitschko.

At least Ruiz could somewhat handle himself if a fight broke out among his spoiling, holding, ref squealing, and cheating.

Akinwande couldn't fight at all if a strong referee allowed a punch up to take place.

Wladimir can only 'box' when the opponent obediently sits on the end of his jab. Move on him and try fight, as Pov did, and he is . . . ah well, it cannot be spelled out any simpler than it has innumerable times throughout the eight pages of this thread. You either want to accept it or you don't.

Engaging in dialogue with the Klitists has given me an idea of how it must feel for a scientist to speak to a religious person.

Now they've had a few days to mull it over, despite Povetkin's classy post-fight comments where he admitted the better man won fairly, they've now put in an official complaint about the referee.

Which I think is right, the fault lies with the ref. Not once did he warn Wlad, so why would Wlad change what he was doing. Not once did he tell Povetkin to stop ducking at the waist and charging in with his head down.

Probably the right thing to do. Povetkin seems a classy guy. And being in the heat of the moment and suffering a knockdown/concusion early on, it probably wasn't until after the fight when he realised the extend of Wlad's chearing/shite reffing
