What has George Groves said to rile Carl Froch so much?
Re: What has George Groves said to rile Carl Froch so much?
No he wasn't
And you know what (I appreciate this somewhat defeats my argument) I haven't the energy to argue the opposite because someone will always pick a tenuous hole in anything on here.
To bemoan Froch's last 8 fights really is bordering on hilarious.

Re: What has George Groves said to rile Carl Froch so much?
He wants Groves to be scared of him. He feels superior to everyone. He's a first class clown, I remember all the disrespectful stuff he said about Calzaghe when he was trying to get that fight. Groves is mandatory so deserves the fight. In honesty I think Groves will win and believe Froch knows it's possible so it's getting to him. He thinks he deserved a easier fight after all the fights he has just had and maybe he did

Exactly, how can you critising him? If today's era was Hagler, Hearns, Leonard, Calzaghe, Benn, Eubank, SR Robinson (you get my drift), Froch may not have been up there but he'd have a go at them allcolumbo wrote:Yeah im not sure how anyone can really hate on Froch's opposition. You might not like him personally but he's fought the creme de la creme throughout his career and deserves props for that in an era of ducking and diving.Deserter wrote:And now please do the same list for Groves' last eight opponents. Dirrell. Outboxed and he lost in my opinion.
Taylor, Out boxed and dropped then knocked out a tiring fighter.
AA...Poor Small Supermiddle with limited boxing ability.
Kessler Lost to a past his best Kessler and beat an even more over the hill version.
Bute..Good win!
Mack..Not that good.
Ward Lost clearly to a one handed fighter.

Re: What has George Groves said to rile Carl Froch so much?
I think its a good fight and I like Groves a lot, I think he hits hard enough at top level to worry Froch.
However, is he sturdy enough himself? My inclination is not and once Froch puts it on him I would expect a late stoppage.
Has Groves been disrespectful? Probably not, but I can see why Froch is a bit miffed.
We'll see on fight night whether or not Groves was wise to go down the route he has.

Re: What has George Groves said to rile Carl Froch so much?
Maybe the pressure is getting to Carl? He's never been in a huge domestic showdown like this, won't have all the support of the crowd and defeat will seriously damage his legacy(not to mention his standing as an international superstar). After the Ward schooling, a loss to George will see him go down in history as just a very good champion, not a great one. He can't count on the judges this time like he did with Dirrel either...
Re: What has George Groves said to rile Carl Froch so much?
He won the Dirrell fight.
It was a shit fight and Froch wasn't good but to suggest he got lucky via the judges is lunacy.
Dirrell basically did sod all for 12 rounds apart from hurting Froch with a single shot in I think round 9 or 10

No great secret as to what Groves said, or didn't - it's just that some fighters, like Carl, sometimes need to generate anger towards their opponents - to get motivated and in the right mind set.
After the fight, almost certainly he'll say that he bears George no bad feelings and it was just business ( only if he wins, mind )
Marvin Hagler was the same - he hated all his opponents, for no reason other than they planned to try and take his belts.
Even mild mannered Tony Sibson, months before the fight, tried to shake Marvin's hand and was given the death stare & told to f*&%$ off for his troubles.
Hagler eventually admitted he didn't really hate Leonard and Hearns - but it took him 30 years.

People's memories seem to forget certain things.
Its like when you hear people talk about Barrera schooling Naz in a complete shut out, which is absolute bollocks. Dirrell getting robbed blind in Nottingham is the same. I thought Dirrell had an argument in a very close fight which could have gone either way.

Re: What has George Groves said to rile Carl Froch so much?
It's disgraceful how Groves has shown zero respect to the intergalactic mega-star Carl Froch, ruler of all 12-stone beings throughout the universe (except Oakland, for now)

I think Froch is just trying to hype the contest because he might think Groves in unworthy & he needs to sell the fight: it has to be, because, I cannot see what Groves has done to rile him up so much.

Can't see any other result but Froch stoppage here. Groves is easily to hit and frail. Froch just walks him down and destroys him. Maybe early doors.
Re: What has George Groves said to rile Carl Froch so much?
There is no need because the venue sold out in 10 minutes due to the international celebrity megastar that is Carl Froch? He said so himself so it must be true.Syntax Error wrote:I think Froch is just trying to hype the contest because he might think Groves in unworthy & he needs to sell the fight: it has to be, because, I cannot see what Groves has done to rile him up so much.

Whilst I would like nothing more than Groves to put it on Froch, you are correct, he wins this when he wants to up the ante.Riddick Blowe wrote:Agree.Wrists wrote:

What will be interesting will be to see Froch's reaction afterwards and how good Groves suddenly becomes once Froch has scalped him.
Re: What has George Groves said to rile Carl Froch so much?
Well Groves didn't sell out the fight did he. There is no debating who the star between the two is.Finch wrote:There is no need because the venue sold out in 10 minutes due to the international celebrity megastar that is Carl Froch? So the difference between him being a 'great or 'good' champion is George Groves? You are borderline becoming a troll.mickey1975 wrote:Maybe the pressure is getting to Carl? Re: What has George Groves said to rile Carl Froch so much?
You know what, Groves may pull this off, stranger upsets have happened.
Froch may (just may) all of a sudden get old in this fight.
Groves may do this.
However, regardless of whether he does or not the debate about the standard of Froch's opponents is a non debate.
He has fought at the absolute top level for a long time now, and consistently and has a very good record at said level.
Really that's all there is to it.

Re: What has George Groves said to rile Carl Froch so much?
Groves had at least 12,000 behind him at the DeGale fight. It could be argued Fielding, Quigg, Cardle, Smith and co have sold it out judging by the thousands they are currently selling on Twitter.DMA1987 wrote:Well Groves didn't sell out the fight did he. Really? And who are you to judge that? Just as beating Oliver McCall and Hasim Rahman doesn't make you a great, losing too them prevents you being talked about as the bet ever. Same with this, losing to George will put a huge dent in Carl's legacy.DMA1987 wrote:So the difference between him being a 'great or 'good' champion is George Groves? There were mitigating circumstances in the Berbick fight. We will let him off with that one.
