I keep seeing references to TOWIE people at the fight.

Did they interview them, and I missed it? Surely they aren't famous enough to recognise them if they're just sat in the crowd?
No they didn't interview them thankfully. I've no idea who they are...someone told me, honest!

It's shameful that it is on television, let alone anything else.

The Only Way Is Eddie

Degale does seem like hard work with his impatience!! Turning into abit of a slugger is degale looking for the single punch too much. He used to punch in bunches & be effective

I'm staying in the dartford bridge hilton. Think the after party must have been here, there were a load of birds with yellow tops saying chunkette on the front. I really wanted to ditch the bird I brought back to try my luck with one of them. Some of them were tasty. Mines wasn't.

Now there's DeGale's problem. He cares too much about being a celebrity.

Often works against a boxer, especially one who has yet to achieve his goals.

Some of his shot selection and switching was was slick but often unnecessary , and the fight as an overall spectacle was at best mediocre. It started brightly and I thought we were in for a good showing tonight, but it never kicked on and stayed at the same tempo for the distance.

Also that kind of slapping, cuffing offence isn't going to deter anyone on the world stage - and if anything, Degale looks poorer now than the promise he showed when he first turned professional. It's just style over substance now.

His Emmanuel Augustus showboating is still something he is doing which needs ironing out.

I'm afraid to say that Marco Periban probably beats him. The Mexican is not particularly flashy, but he is from the Librado Andrade mould, in that he can take a shot and he plugs away and is difficult to deter. Degale will likely piss around on the ropes from the outside and will drop off before the final bell and lose on points if he is not careful.

I feel for Mick actually, he's got a real pack of oddballs to promote at the minute, who all think they are the mutt's nuts and making big demands. He reigned in the sales pitch a bit tonight and his appraisal was a bit more realistic in comparison with Degale's churlish strop, like a kid after a lollipop.

I sensed they were waiting on the outcome of Froch vs Groves. If GG gets walloped , I don't think he is on any sort of deal with Matchroom and perhaps Hennessey will make a play for a rematch.

Hennessy has been involved with some serious super middleweight Froch wars like Pascal, Taylor , Kessler - and when he stands at ringside blowing smoke up Degale's ass , a little piece of him must die inside every time.

Degale has been linked with talks to one promoter after another lately, and probably has the loyalty of a tom cat towards him. If he gets a promoter offering him a gig he will likely take it. Mick should try for Groves II and if not , cash in.
:TU: I agree, DeGale was boxing a pretty good fellow but doesn't really seem to improving fight to fight; it must do Hennesseys' head in when he reads some of the stuff DeGale and Eubank have been saying - I'd give em chapter and verse and the lay of the land and if they weren't happy I'd fornicate em off.

I can't see DeGale winning a proper world title eliminator - they may get someone crazy over (ranked 65) but a real life proper fighter he'll lose to; Groves would kick his arse badly now - the power is not there with James and though he boxes with a game plan and can improvise he slaps too much and mugs too much.

I just can't imagine why they want to call themselves chunkettes. Some of them had nice chunky asses though. The place was full of very badly dressed folk with big daft looking watches and skanky birds. I had to listen to some of them in the lift talking about chunkster defending his silver world title

That is exactly what he did! No worse than Froch describing himself as World champion. They are both holders of different belts at different levels. The only person you can't dispute saying anything is Andre Ward.

It's very very different Mickey. I can't believe you think that's a fair comparison.

Why? He defended his silver belt. We know it means nothing but neither does Froch's claim to be world champ. He is clearly number two.

good post.

i get the very strong impression that Degale can't help resist, for want of a better phrase, indulging his own athleticism. IE it seems to me there's a lot of things he does in there because he thinks they look 'cool' rather than doing them with pure efficacy in mind.

he has quite a rare, intuitive, athletic creativity and i can't help thinking in his own mind he is continually thinking 'did you see what I just did?'

i'll say one thing for Degale, i think Davis is an excellent defensive fighter who most would struggle to look good against.

And the bit I underlined is exactly why he was chosen as an opponent - there was no danger of him knocking Degale out.

I am trying to work out exactly what has Degale done to have the "right" to a World title shot ? - the way he spoke to Hennessy on live TV was a disgrace.

It is not as if he has gone to Germany and beat Abrahams, or to America and beat Chavez, etc.

The way he talks you would think he was coming of back to back KO wins against Ward, Kessler and Froch.

The bloke is a tool and he is boring to watch - not exactly good qualities when trying to sell a fight to the general public (as, I assume he also wants to be paid top dollar).

I think that the fact DeGale and team gave up the Euro belt in favour of keeping the WBC Silver belt means they should forfeit the right to ever get a shot at a legitimate title again.

But you don't know the promises that Hennessy has been making to DeGale. For starters, he gave up the European title for a fight in January against the WBC No 7 that never happened and he has spent most of this year in the gym waiting on promises from his promoter.

That's the whole issue mate. The way he spoke to Hennessy was because he's not getting the fights he wants. I dont even mean world title fights but fights that actually lead to something. Hennessy needs to start delivering.
