In Groves he has got a domestic opponent who isn't overawed, if Groves is getting pointers from someone to rattle Froch they certainly know what they are doing and if he's doing it off the cuff he is a very dry and deadpan man.
I dont think it's that. I think it's more to do with the fact that he doesnt think Groves has fought anyone genuinely world class as a pro yet.

Froch mentioned Groves as being in the same class/league as his British title defences; I think he is making a mistake. Groves is dangerous and when he sits straight up he is as tall as Carl.

True. It's not like Froch has never fought anyone taller than him or quicker than him though. When it comes to athleticism I think Froch has probably been outmatched by everyone he's ever boxed as he's not exactly the quickest boxer going but he makes up for it in other ways.

It's not just that though pal, unless Groves is really confident about this then he ought to get an academy award; he looks as if he doesn't give a monkeys about Froch. Carl has had a very good run of entertaining fights and has made a real name for himself with it but there is still an element of smoke and mirrors to it; all of the boxers who entered the Super Six could be promoted as a 'face anyone' type of fighter - that's 6 who would face anyone not just Froch. I think that Carl knows that George is high risk and with relatively low reward (at least for his reputation) whereas if he gets chinned then he's lost an awful lot.

What has groves ever done to make Froch only a slight favourite?
froch isn't unbeatable in fact he's lost 2 of his last 7 fights and boxers give him problems .froch has slow feet and if you can keep the fight at long range he's not impossible to beat ...... what had clay done before he beat liston or honeyghan before he beat don curry ? it's easy to jump on the froch bandwagon but he aint getting any younger and groves could be the wrong guy at the wrong time.

Froch hasn't looked like he has been slowing down. He isn't unbeatable but it has been elite fighters who have beaten him.

I'll say it again - what has Groves ever done to make himself only a slight underdog for this fight?

He can box to orders (DeGale and Johnson) and unsettle a boxer before a bout (DeGale) and he can score clear knockouts over men never been done like that before (Smith) he can also come back from being dropped to stop the other man (Anderson). Is he only a slight underdog or is that only on here? The experts on Boxing Monthly had Froch to win 10 experts to nil.

It comes down to one thing and one thing only, can GG take Carl Frochs punch because if he can then he can easily out box and out move and use his speed to win on points if he occasionally gets caught with shots by froch and doesn't crumble then he can box and move, Carl froch is gonna put loads of pressure on from the opening bell. I don't see Carl Froch just walking through GG like some people think lets not forget GG can bang an has decent power as well

Froch has a habit of walking onto punches that has never been a problem because of his chin, but how long will it be before it cracks? The upper body moves forward before the feet do and the head leans in, if Groves can catch him then move before Froch gets his feet into position, Froch will hit thin air, there were some wild misses against Kessler, who doesn't have amazing head movement.

Froch inside 9, possibly earlier. I've seen zero sign that Froch's chin is waning, and for me, if anything he's gotten better since that first loss to Kessler and the 2nd loss, against ward. He fights with more urgency now, and doesn't look for the one big shot so often.

Groves may make him look a bit silly for a couple of rounds, but once Froch finds his range and starts landing, I just don't see what Groves can offer to stop him in his tracks. I don't see how groves can pick and poke for 12 rounds without being caught, he's not Andre Ward - who incidentally, was able to outstrength as well as outmaneuver Carl.

When was the last time Groves fought anyone anywhere near as good and experienced as Froch....?

How heavy is his punch at world level? We don't know because Groves has never been there. Froch isn't on the wane, I think he is actually peak at the minute - you are asking all the wrong questions. You should be asking who Groves has faced that comes close to Froch, because Froch has beaten boxers better than Groves.

We don't really know that though as we don't know just how good Groves is; all the cards haven't fallen yet; George may turn out to be one hell of a good boxer and really up there, he is a bit of an unknown quantity but we can't just imagine that he's a level below, this is his chance to move on up; he may make and he may not.

His punch will be just as good at world level as it has been at lower levels, he's not to going to hit lighter because he's boxing better fighters. There's good chins and bad chins at the top, just like there are at domestic level, the only difference is that he won't land as often because fighters are better at world level.

So rather than imagining he isn't world level, we imagine that he is?

Even though he hasn't nearly proved it. I like Groves, he has been impressive, but come on.

Sorry mate but that's just bollocks. Time and again you see people chinning them at lower levels but not at the top.

It's hardly new ground I'm breaking, its a pretty well known fact.

Ain't you heard? Didnt you see Ringside?

Groves asked Froch if he was, and get this, 'about to cry?'

Surprised Groves ain't 1/10 after that. Virtually guaranteed to win the fight now

Because fighters are easier to hit at lower levels, he's not going to suddenly hit softer because he's in with better fighters, they're just harder to catch clean on the button.

I think we see what we want to see and Froch is a proven commodity and Groves isn't; I can see that he hits hard and can change a game plan and is 11 years younger than Carl and has got under his skin.

Froch now and for the next 2 years. Groves thereafter.

Groves is a spoiler and don't be surprised if he is on his bike for a large part of the fight, with booing from the fans.

Yeah he is, he's spoiled 15 out of his last 19 opponents.

Watch Groves biggest test against Degale. He did nothing to impress me that night. He will employ the same tactics against Froch to frustrate the hell out of him. It wont work though.
