Is Froch's power overrated?

Post by lefty »

First off I want to apologise because ive been complaining about all the Froch and Groves threads but I wanted to put this question out there. There's no doubt that Froch does have a dig on him but does he hit as hard as some think he does and he himself thinks he does? I remember the Bute fight and whilst he clearly hit hard enough to hurt Bute, the flurry at the end when he had him on the ropes still didnt actually manage to drop Bute.

The ropes held him up....

Froch bangs & is a stiff hitter like robin Reid.
He looks like he's punching through treacle at times but he allway's lands knowbody mentions that he don't miss a lot

I dont think the ropes fully held him up. I think if that had been Groves, Kessler and maybe a few others at 168 Bute probably would of been out cold. Anyway, yeah I wasnt saying Froch doesnt hit hard but I was asking if he is a true puncher.

I think you're underrating Bute a lot there mate. I watched a lot of him before the Froch fight and he was quality. I don't know how much physical and mental damage the Froch fight did to him, but going into that fight, he was very impressive and I think he would have been very hard to beat by anyone other than Froch and Ward.

I don't think he's a real one punch hitter, the way he looked like he was coming up, but I think everyone knows that, so he's rarely overrated.

Ah no I wasnt questioning Bute's talent mate but he was badly hurt and got very lucky against Librado Andrade in their first fight. He doesnt have the best chin in the world. That's all I was saying. In terms of talent though he's got a lot of skill for sure.

I said this after the Bute fight and got slated for it but i'll say it again: At world level Froch is not a devastating puncher despite what a good few posters think. He wears people down with the accumulative effect of his punching. His power though is obviously to be respected even at world level.

I do think Bute was virtually out though. Even Bute's trainer said the stoppage was a couple of punches too late. If you watch it in again you can see the 2nd or 3rd last punch Carl throws is fairly sickening and Bute is completely gone, not unconscious but absolutely nothing left. If there was no ropes he'd have been flat on his back. If Carl was a devastating puncher though Bute wouldn't have got to the 5th round. I just think Bute's very chinny.

I never thought of Froch as a devastating puncher, I didnt think that many did. He has good world level power, not one punch KO but concussive enough. Especially when you add his style.

If we all think it's overrated, who is overrating it?

His KO percentage before he began fighting at world level was impressive.

But essentially he's a grind 'em down type of fighter. I wouldn't say his power is overrated though I'm sure most people would agree he's never been known as a KO artist.

Hijacking the question, I know, but for me, they all have more one punch power than Froch. For me, Froch is more aware than most fighters as to when he has people shaken though and really makes the most of his power with combination punching and his aggressive style. Not a devastating puncher by any stretch, but he easily hits hard enough to get the job done.

GROVES HAS WORLD CLASS POWER!
Based on what? Being able to deck Carl Froch once and not being able to finish him? He landed a load of clean right hands. If he had WORLD CLASS POWER, would he not have knocked him down more than once?

He hits clubbing shot's, not concussive.

he's had the respect of many top class guys after catching them, i thinks its more a case of Groves isn't as chinny as people suggest.

What do you weigh? Maybe you are just chinny? Are you world class?

I agree with this post completley, Froch usually has good accuracy. One of the biggest shocks for me was how inaccurate he was at weekend.

Froch has decent power, I don't think anyone has ever claimed he was Julian Jackson. Groves has world class power in my opinion. I thought that before the Froch fight.
