Frazier would knock him senseless.

George Groves would kick SOG's butt all night long.
And to make the post relevant to BOTP,
Marlon Starling beats The Golden Boy at welterweight.

Re: Against the Grain Opinions
1969 Frazier has a viable (35-40%) of overcoming the very bad stylistic match up against '73 Foreman, staying tight and taking George out to deep water and drowning his butt.

Re: Against the Grain Opinions
I think helenius deserved the decision against chisora.
Re: Against the Grain Opinions
Jack Johnson is the most overrated fighter in the history of boxing.
Re: Against the Grain Opinions
Aaron Pryor...was majority management and luck.....and then a pretty good fighter.
Re: Against the Grain Opinions
Compare Johnson's 5 or 6 best wins with the best 5 or 6 guys he didn't give title shots to.

Louis is not Top 5

Kind of ironic that the 'color/colour line' probably benefited Johnson more than any other champion.Seamus wrote:Compare Johnson's 5 or 6 best wins with the best 5 or 6 guys he didn't give title shots to.
I believe that Pernell Whitaker did not deserve to win his first fight with JLR.

Re: Against the Grain Opinions
Someone as aggressive and open as Gamboa seems like he'd be ideal for a poised counter-puncher like Sanchez. I don't understand this one. Just speed? That's it?BarryWashington wrote:Can't see it.
I also believe Gamboa would have beaten Sal Sanchez in a scheduled 12 rounder. Too much speed and foot speed
Re: Against the Grain Opinions
I'll take a prime Lennox Lewis over any heavyweight that retired in the '70s or earlier.
(This one isn't BOTP, but...) Guillermo Rigondeaux is #2 on my pound-for-pound list.

Barry, it's not the first time I have expressed that opinion on these boards. For the record, the rematch is as close to perfection as I have ever seen.BarryWashington wrote:Wow. Witherspoon you better leave the font small w/that one. 10-1-1, Whitaker
I will watch the fight again when I have time, and I suspect that I will find that I am mistaken.
I mean, if just one single poster half agreed with me, I would be satisfied but I'm out in the cold on this one.

Re: Against the Grain Opinions
It's impossible to find 6 rounds for Ramirez, let alone seven. It wasn't any closer than the rematch.
As for Wlad/Frazier, Joe would love Wlad to try and hold him. Unlike Povetkin, Frazier can fight in the clinch.
I post so much, my opinions are all known.
Most overrated: Ricardo Lopez and I think Carbajal or Gonzalez would have beaten him.

Why do you think that?Seamus wrote:Jack Johnson is the most overrated fighter in the history of boxing.
I'd put him ahead of Louis and Dempsey on an all-time list.

I would say it is because he didn't fight a few guys who were arguably the best HWs of his time.knurak wrote:Why do you think that?Seamus wrote:Jack Johnson is the most overrated fighter in the history of boxing.

Ain't no fighter today beat the great Salvador Sanchez, my brother. Gamboa would not even beat the great Eusebio PedrozaBarryWashington wrote:Can't see it.

I'd go along with that. Wlad has a bad style for Joe, especially with Manny Stewart in his cornerBarryWashington wrote:I think Frazier would have a lot of trouble against Wlad.
Frazier definitely has a chance, but if a referee similar to the one in the Povetkin fight shows up then I can see Wlad winning in the most spoiler style possible.
Frazier would do well with getting underneath Wlad K's punches (and probably wouldn't have to worry about uppercuts) but I think Wlad would turn out nd hold like crazy and "win" in the most negative way possible.

Re: Against the Grain Opinions
I'm guessing these are against the grain.
I'd take prime Vitali over prime Bowe, barring injuries.
Ketchel over Robinson.
Benny Leonard over Duran.
Joe Bugner over Foreman.
