How do you know Groves wants signing? He covered his own back when signing with Fwank and has been brought up the Hayemaker way by Booth. He might not mate, that would also explain it. But if he suddenly thinks he is a PPV star, then he will be wanting to head over to Sky won't he? Matchroom have another 1 1/2 year Monopoly at least.mickey1975 wrote:How do you know Groves wants signing? I think it will happen. It's a huge money fight and one I'm sure Carl is 100% confident of winning. I would be surprised if this doesn't happen next May or June.

I agree. As much as I give Eddie stick, there's no way he can make the money he has a good chance of making on sky, particularily PPV on allegedly. Also the way things are going at the moment with FW opponents, im not sure he could get him a good opponent either.
Re: Groves ridicules Froch with mock photo
100% agree, losing to Ward changes nothing but losing to Groves not only hurts his legacy but enhances George's, Eddie admitted a rematch with Groves is the biggest money fight for Carl so if he chooses to fight Ward then its pretty obvious he's choosing the safest fight for his legacy, not a "warriors" attitude if you ask me.davie wrote:Didn't froch say that ward was boring, had no real fanbase and the rematch wouldn't sell. I'm sure thats the song he was singing around the time of the kessler bout.
I'm sure he said the third fight with kessler would be favourable over a rematch with ward
Now, after the fright of his life against the impudent groves, the ward fight is the more favourable route
I don't think carl fears anyone. But i think he fears what the L on his record does for his legacy.
At the time of the. Kessler fight he didn't want a ward fight because it was an inevitable addition to his L column while a kessler fight was a winnable fight that would gain him plaudits and would be a war either way.
Now he realises a loss to the no2 p4p is less damaging than a potential loss to a man he stated had no right to set foot in a ring with him.
Carls an astute guy, but still needs to man up and just face groves whatever the outcome

Nah, Groves did well but he was running on fumes by the time the (premature) stoppage came. He starts staggering into no-mans land, completely disorientated as Foster jumps in.
If he didn't step in, what would have happened next? he would have turned his back on Froch or ate a serious shot indeed.
i think boy george needs to remember what the result was and correct me if im wrong but didnt he relinquish trhe belt rather than defend it against kenny anderson??? practise what you preach you ginger tosser

Re: Groves ridicules Froch with mock photo
Right let's get a few things cleared up here. So George Groves is accusing Carl Froch of ducking Adonis Stevenson was his IBF mandatory defence after Stevenson defeated Don George? Maybe, maybe not because there is a provision in the IBF rulebook that allows a unifaction match up to take precedence over a mandatory defence of the title, which is what Froch did in having his rematch with Mikkel Kessler to avenge the first loss of his professional career that saw him lose his hard fought WBC title that he won against Jean Pascal back in 2008 because Froch and his promoter Handsome Eddie Hearn knew that would be a big ticket seller at a major arena here in the UK in this case the O2 Arena and generate a considerable amount of buys on Sky Box Office.
Secondly. George Groves is an OPTION for Carl Froch but not the only option for him. He was a mandatory challenger for Froch's belts and Froch has fufilled his mandatory defence against him so he can fight whoever he pleases now in his next defence of his titles , and if Groves does not like that than he should get back on the horse and get in line and not expect to have the shot handed to him on a platter. Plus he is 25 years old for goodness sake but sounding like his a 35 year old got shafted in his life changing shot for god's sake, he is young enough and talented enough to come around again which I think he will. I do agree that he did outbox Froch no doubt about but Froch was starting to haul himself back into it and would have got the stoppage one way or another as I felt Groves' was starting to tire

Re: Groves ridicules Froch with mock photo
Last year Groves was the number 1 contender to face Stieglitz for the WBO title. Less than a month before the fight he pulled out with injury then moved to Matchroom.
Abraham Vs. Stieglitz III takes place at the beginning of March. Regardless who wins I would not be surprised at all to see Groves join Sauerland, following David Price, in view of a title fight against the winner. I know Stieglitz isn't promoted by Sauerland but they do seem to have a reasonable working relationship with Ulf Steinforth. Groves against either would be a very entertaining, winnable fight.
Surely Froch Vs. Groves II would be bigger and better if Groves brought a title to the party? A great unification bout.

Who is Andre Ward Ward, so good they named him twice?
Re: Groves ridicules Froch with mock photo
Groves: WBA - No. 2, IBF - No. 4, WBO - No. 2.jackukmma wrote:Groves is pushing the rematch as he's got nowhere else to go otherwise. Froch can take on Groves/Ward/Chavez/GGG he holds all the cards and Georgie boy knows it
I fail to see how Groves has nowhere to go without Froch. If he can't get a world title shot, he'll at least be able to get an eliminator fairly soon.

Froch is in a loose loose position really from the fans point of view, if he rematches groves and wins then people wil say 'well the first fight shouldnt of been stopped anyway' then if he fights someone else he's bottled it.
I want to see the rematch but i see him fighting chavez jr in vegas next.
Its a shame if that happens after the reputation he's built up in terms of fighting anyone

Cracking left hook in the second gif and the third Howard just saves him from slumping to the floor knackered. He should have left him go and Carl could have had the opportunity to put a full stop on it . Groves may have been counted out anway. We will never know!G0mez wrote:"When the ref stopped the fight, I was about to take it up a level and start showing Carl new things." - Groves on Sky Sports News the next day.

Groves needs to move on. He's like a girl who is crying because she's been dumped. I like Groves but every time he opens his mouth he goes down in my estimations.

The same people saying that are the ones that say:Power777 wrote:Froch has lost his bottle if he avoids Groves. Anyone saying otherwise is a liar.
"But it should have had a standing 8 count."
"Froch never landed a clean punch in the finish"

"The ref pulled Groves to the side / pulled his arms down."
Re: Groves ridicules Froch with mock photo
Froch is running scared? Interesting. He hasn't yet signed his next fight, but people are accusing him of running scared from someone he just beat. I love the idea that Groves was "about to step it up a gear, and show Froch new things". They were just coming into Froch's favourite part of the fight, he was punching Groves around the ring like a rag doll, and suddenly it was Froch that had the timing at the accuracy, and Groves that couldn't land. Wah wah wah, I couldn't beat Froch, and now he won't do it all over again for no particular reason. Groves had his chance early in the fight; he didn't go for the finish against a guy who is 36, a notoriously slow starter, and famous for being more brutal at the end of the fight. Pardon me if I don't see him as a tactical genius.

Groves is desperate now. He needs to look elsewhere as there will be no rematch for him. The guy gave a great account of himself, but he was gassed and done in the 9th. No shame in that. take the loss like a man and get on with your career.
Some big fights for him out there for him if haqndled correctly. Degale is one I would want to see again and then he can look at a world title.

Re: Groves ridicules Froch with mock photo
Some so called boxing fans really do wind me up! Froch has earned the right to fight who he wants. "Ducking" Groves (who he just beat) to fight a tougher opponent in Ward isn't cowardly. And it's just embarrassing how quickly people forget what's gone before. It's like the Beatles releasing an awful single and everyone saying they're terrible, awful, never liked em, forgetting all the classics that they previously produced. The only thing Froch should take a little stick for is saying some stupid things at times. Apart from that, let's count ourselves lucky that we've had such a tough, homegrown fighter to watch in our lifetime.

It was certainly an odd gameplan from Groves to look like he was out on his feet and shipping 12 unanswered heavy shots
Perhaps it was an elaborate rope a dope strategy?? ;;-)

I know Ward is better than Groves and is without doubt the number 1 in the division, but I'm sure Groves was a much 'tougher' fight for Froch than Ward ever will be. Styles and all that.
Fact is, losing again to Ward won't harm Froch much at all, whereas taking more of those right hands off Groves in another fight will, win or lose.
Ward should fight Groves and show Froch up.
Re: Groves ridicules Froch with mock photo
Tougher was probably the wrong word to use, I did mean more that Ward is the better opponent. But yes Groves gave him a terrible time early on. My main gripe is how fickle a lot of "fans" are being regarding Froch. I would love him to give Groves the Rematch, i was there and it was a thrilling fight. However, at 36 and after all the wars he's been through and the great nights he's given, I think he has the right to take the fight he wants. Just my opinion.youngrell wrote:Is Ward a tougher fight?danamba7 wrote:Some so called boxing fans really do wind me up! Froch has earned the right to fight who he wants. Re: Groves ridicules Froch with mock photo
I guess Groves is only doing what most people would do in his position. It's good for him to maintain the aura that he was going to win that fight, therefore in his own mind he is still unbeaten. For me, he got tired, he stood and traded and came off worse, he was in bad shape, he lost all his form and was all over the place. Carl was never like that in any point of the fight.
But still there's always gona be the noise with a premature stoppage, I'm sure Carl would rather have been allowed to lay him out cold and have him shut the fornicate up than what has happened.
I'd love to see the rematch though, it's the fight that makes sense, interest-wise, money-wise etc. There aren't many fights for Carl where you think he's gona make £5m+ and the Groves rematch would surely be in that bracket with the interest there is now. The fickle British public demand it.
