I agree that a lot of fans have turned on Froch a little too much and it is a little unfair considering what he's provided over the years. He just needed to be a lot more graceful post-fight and he would've been fine.danamba7 wrote:Tougher was probably the wrong word to use, I did mean more that Ward is the better opponent. I would love him to give Groves the Rematch, i was there and it was a thrilling fight. However, at 36 and after all the wars he's been through and the great nights he's given, I think he has the right to take the fight he wants. Just my opinion.youngrell wrote:Is Ward a tougher fight?danamba7 wrote:Some so called boxing fans really do wind me up! Froch has earned the right to fight who he wants. I know Ward is better than Groves and is without doubt the number 1 in the division, but I'm sure Groves was a much 'tougher' fight for Froch than Ward ever will be. Styles and all that.
Fact is, losing again to Ward won't harm Froch much at all, whereas taking more of those right hands off Groves in another fight will, win or lose.
Ward should fight Groves and show Froch up.

Agree mate, shows how fickle a lot of the 'fans' can be, people who might watch 5 or less boxing shows per year.danamba7 wrote:Some so called boxing fans really do wind me up! I said it about Hatton also, at the end there was a lot of criticism of him and his quotes and stuff, even from me, but when you look back, who has filled the void? He was the most popular and exciting British fighter for a generation or more.
We should enjoy these top guys while we have them, there isn't that much coming through that really excites me the way Hatton, Froch and Haye did on their way up. I don't see Groves filling that gap I'm afraid.

He needs to tighten that up quick timeBennyblanco wrote:Froch is in a loose loose position really from the fans point of view, if he rematches groves and wins then people wil say 'well the first fight shouldnt of been stopped anyway' then if he fights someone else he's bottled it.
I want to see the rematch but i see him fighting chavez jr in vegas next.
Its a shame if that happens after the reputation he's built up in terms of fighting anyone

Missed the first round did we?TheCobra wrote:I guess Groves is only doing what most people would do in his position. It's good for him to maintain the aura that he was going to win that fight, therefore in his own mind he is still unbeaten. For me, he got tired, he stood and traded and came off worse, he was in bad shape, he lost all his form and was all over the place. Carl was never like that in any point of the fight.
But still there's always gona be the noise with a premature stoppage, I'm sure Carl would rather have been allowed to lay him out cold and have him shut the eff up than what has happened.
I'd love to see the rematch though, it's the fight that makes sense, interest-wise, money-wise etc. There aren't many fights for Carl where you think he's gona make £5m+ and the Groves rematch would surely be in that bracket with the interest there is now. The fickle British public demand it.

The rematch is a tougher fight for Carl than Ward 1 was, without any doubt.youngrell wrote:Is Ward a tougher fight?danamba7 wrote:Some so called boxing fans really do wind me up! Ward seems to have got better since their first bout and it can be argued that Carl has declined. A rematch would be wider, much wider ( the first fight wasn't the complete shutout these casuals keep claiming, who I suspect have not even seen the fight...if they did they would have noticed Carl giving Ward grief over the last three rounds...oh wait, I see a pattern developing there
Re: Groves ridicules Froch with mock photo
The rounds Ward took off?
He beat Carl easily with a dodgy arm. I've seen that fight three times, the scoring was atrocious, that fight wasn't even remotely close.

Never said it was close, said it wasn't the shut out some seem to think ( hope? ) it was.SNG wrote:The rounds Ward took off?

Any rematch would be a complete shut out, possible stoppage. As I say, Ward has possibly got better and judging by what I saw against Groves, its arguable Froch has lost a bit.
You say Ward took them off, I say Froch gave him a bit of grief. Ward didnt look comfortable in the stretch but had done plenty enough to win it at that stage. Carl enjoyed his best spell down the stretch, much like he did vs Taylor too. My point there was its a common theme, was happening against Groves too, although coming a touch earlier ( 7th round is where Carl started making a case )
Re: Groves ridicules Froch with mock photo
Who called it a shut out? Froch won two rounds at best, and they were still arguable at that, you say he comes on in round 7, where was he against Ward in 7,8,9 and 10? Point is, why rematch a fighter who he has no chance against, give us the fight we actually want to see.

I may be wrong here, but just an ideaHorse wrote: Groves: WBA - No. 2, IBF - No. 4, WBO - No. 2.
If GG was mandatory for Froch's WBA title. Is there any possibility of him being made mandatory challenger for his IBF next?
as he is highly ranked by both governing body.
or does froch satisfy both governing bodies with the one bout?
might be a stupid question, but it would amuse me no end, if one of them told froch he has to fight groves, as the mandatory for their belt too.
Re: Groves ridicules Froch with mock photo
it depends, do you mean tougher in terms of his chance of winning (0% vs ward or 50% vs groves)youngrell wrote:Is Ward a tougher fight?danamba7 wrote:Some so called boxing fans really do wind me up! Ward should fight Groves and show Froch up.
or do you mean tougher in terms of being a more punishing and brutal battle?
in that fight there, froch took a bit of a pasting early, soaked up some big shots and looked pretty beat up after the fight and thats one he won.
if he were to lose a rematch to groves, i'd imaging said loss would involve sustaining a bit of a sore face.
losing to ward probably wouldn't be too bruising an affair, it would likely be more painful to his ego as he was on the end of another 12 round boxing lesson
Re: Groves ridicules Froch with mock photo
I think both mate. His body and his ego would take a much bigger pasting if he happened to lose to Groves. Just his body if he was to win and Groves can perform to that level again.davie wrote: it depends, do you mean tougher in terms of his chance of winning (0% vs ward or 50% vs groves)

Froch gets out smarted and out boxed vs Ward - he gets beat up against Groves, win or lose.

Re: Groves ridicules Froch with mock photo
I gave Froch 3 rounds. My point was Froch has come on strong in fights down the stretch plenty of times before and was starting to do it as early as the 7th round vs Groves, which didnt bode well for George.SNG wrote:Who called it a shut out? Don't get me wrong, I want to see the rematch with Groves but I'm not going to lambast Carl, and start questioning his bottle if he goes for Ward instead. Seems crazy to me seeing as Ward 2 is a tougher fight and of course, Ward is a whole level above Groves.
If I were Froch I would let it all die down a touch then go for the rematch next year. Don't leave it too late though as I don't think he can afford to take too long off.
Re: Groves ridicules Froch with mock photo
Sadly it is not cleared up.... George is accusing Carl of ducking Stevenson cause Carl said last week he doesn't wish to fight him. Not because of his mandatory situation ahead of the Kessler match.IRLangmaid25 wrote:Right let's get a few things cleared up here. So George Groves is accusing Carl Froch of ducking Adonis Stevenson was his IBF mandatory defence after Stevenson defeated Don George? Maybe, maybe not because there is a provision in the IBF rulebook that allows a unifaction match up to take precedence over a mandatory defence of the title, which is what Froch did in having his rematch with Mikkel Kessler to avenge the first loss of his professional career that saw him lose his hard fought WBC title that he won against Jean Pascal back in 2008 because Froch and his promoter Handsome Eddie Hearn knew that would be a big ticket seller at a major arena here in the UK in this case the O2 Arena and generate a considerable amount of buys on Sky Box Office.
Whilst I am adamant that Groves and Froch have unfinished business.... Andre Dirrell has greater unfinished business there.... there was no "dodgy" stoppage there, just dodgy scoring.

Froch deserved the decision against Dirrell.stujones wrote:Whilst I am adamant that Groves and Froch have unfinished business.... Andre Dirrell has greater unfinished business there.... there was no "dodgy" stoppage there, just dodgy scoring.
Dirrell is no longer a worthy world title challenger.
Re: Groves ridicules Froch with mock photo
Given his inactivity you are correct on the later part. Dirrel does need a least 1 top ten win to deserve his shot against any of the champions.Horse wrote:Froch deserved the decision against Dirrell.stujones wrote:Whilst I am adamant that Groves and Froch have unfinished business.... Your in the minority in the first part. More press scored the fight for Dirrel than Froch, more fans across a wide range of forums scored the fight to Dirrel than Froch. Primetime scored the fight to Dirrel (then called it a just decision).... anyway in the past now. But Groves was right on that one in the build up.

How about Dirrell v Groves for the right to rematch?
Easy this promotion lark...

Given the sparring the they had in the build up to Groves vs Degale and the obvious physical distress Dirrel was causing..... got to favour Dirrel (if he is still the same fighter he was).lillywhite14 wrote:How about Dirrell v Groves for the right to rematch?

Groves has had a good few weeks of sympathy.
If it drags on into months and he continues spouting nonsense like this, then quite frankly no-one will want to know
He has a village hall hardcore fanbase sadly, and that is all he will be left with the longer he continues to whine.
His best bet is to go radio silent for a bit.
He had a forum for his grievances within the media, and then some. He's aired them.
Now let it lie.
Groves claims to be an intelligent man.
He is no longer acting or thinking like one
