Broner needs to come down in weight

Why have people jumped on the thread and turned it about Ricky Burns.. It's about Broner. Clearly he was too small as Billy said.. Let's be honest here. He makes a lot if money outside boxing doing what he likes to do.. 2 months ago he looked easily about 16 stone on Mayweather all Access for Alvarez fight.. I believe he is playing at boxing and we may or may not see him fight again. Maidana is a very very good fighter..

As if Broner is gonna retire from boxing. He makes too much money from it for that.

I can tell your hurt that your boy browner is a disappointment. Who's to say how much he makes or has made. It isn't really big money yet that's for sure and I don't and never have thought he would be a star. He's pretty poor really. I was really happy when maidana smashed him to the floor leaving him looking scared and confused. Even if he goes to 140, the best down there will beat him just as Marcos did.

I never said I thought he was the second coming of Mayweather or anything like that. I thought he was talented and still do but he's got obvious flaws in his style like his workrate is dog turd and he doesnt move his feet enough to avoid punches. As a person he's not exactly the nicest fella either.

My point about second coming wasn't directed at you but him. He's not even the second coming of Andre Berto never mind Floyd.

As for talent, he has pretty fast hands and decent power down at lightweight, at welter he's not even top ten in any respect.

Yeah I know mate. I was just saying that I never thought he was that talented, even though I did/do think he's talented, with obvious flaws though.

A loss to a strong and experienced welter like Maidana doesn't mean that Broner has no talent or is not a championship level boxer; there aren't many welters as insistent and powerful as Marcos and he really threw Broner out of his stride, it was good to see Maidana win v the cocky and brash Broner - the loss may do him some good and maybe make him think about what comes out of his gob. Can't deny he's a fighter though, he got clocked hard over and over and kept on in there.

I've been agnostic about him Tom but thought he'd give too many angles for Marcos and be too quick; I don't think that Maidana is a pushover though and I don't think losing to him puts Broner on the scrapheap.

I think Broner thought it would be a mirror image of the Demarco fight. (which was a superb win)

Broner should have down 2-3 fights at 140 first, but the risk/reward wasn't there. I see him staying at 147 and rebuilding now. Jose lopez next as a rebuilder?

Maidaina showed that he doesn't hit hard enough to stop the strong fellas at this weight in their tracks let alone stop them.
And it is clear he is vulnerable chin wise at welter.
This is also why he struggled to beat a strong man like Ponce de Leon at the lower weight.
Giving away his natural size and strength advantages is a step too far. Alarm bells should have been ringing against Malinaggi who is small and relatively weak for a welter.

I dunno, I remember in the 12 round I think it was, he hit Maidana with a hard counter and Maidana started back peddling. Generally speaking though you're right, he doesnt hit enough for 147.

At super feather he can be the #1, prob not even top 5 at welter. I know boxing is full of hype and through his self publicity he has put a lot of bums on seats to see him lose and he has generated good cash, but Christ did he set himself up for a fall. It's not like Maidana is even really top 5 himself.
