Semi pro queensbury
Re: Semi pro queensbury
Why do so many people get worked up about the use of the terms pro / semi-pro / white collar etc. ?
I don't see the big deal ? - you don't see people on football forums moaning about semi-pro footballers not being "real pro's" etc. ?
If somebody wants to compete in any sport at whatever level, let them get on with it.

I would like to hear from Eurosport on why they televise this when alternative pro shows are available.
Their production costs must be the same, so what is the difference in what they are paying the promoters??
Surely a reputable set up like Eurosport should be focussing on a higher level than Queensbury. They will be showing locals sledging down the local rec instead of the World Downhill Champs next!!

Because of the costs of staging a BBBofC show, promoters can't really afford to offer their "better" product to TV companies when they get naff all for it and may be have to cover production costs as well.

BBBofC is a big money making SCAM if u ask me! I done believe in all the politics! Ross Minter does a great job at the Queensbury! Its kinda ashame other promoters didn't have his brain ;) He was a professional boxer himself! Did he see something in the BBBofC and just move onto his own thing :p

Queeensbury have mostly competitive fights! Yeah not a great standard but its real unlike most Professional shows where its like me (undefeated) vs journeyman (67 losses)
Fighters, Trainers, Promoters and Managers gotta take risks and lets make the sport real again! ;)

Robin Deakin is one of those journeymen, they just don't announce their pro record. A mate of mine boxed Peter Dunn recently on an unlicensed show, too.RonnieTheSharkClark wrote:Queeensbury have mostly competitive fights! I think the fact they are paying to be on tv ,as compared to most licensed shows who get paid shows the difference. Thing is if you just want to fight , and dont care about being recognised as a legitimate British champion or the like then you unlicensed might suit you ?mickey1975 wrote:Robin Deakin is one of those journeymen, they just don't announce their pro record. i have been to an unlincensed show ,and going into it i didnt really think there was a problem, but after going i have to say i came away with a different atitude after seeing what i saw in the ring and out of it , queensbury to its credit does look more organised though

There's different levels in Queensbury. I assume they only televise the "elite" ( open? ) level?

The BBBofC is not some kind of mystical organisation you must treat with reverence and awe.lillywhite14 wrote:Am I right in saying there are something like three different levels in the queensbury thing?
Not my cup of tea at all to be honest. I have a couple of friends who fight in the league, one in what I can only assume is at novice level and the other has some form of title but I don't think he is competing at the highest level in the league. Strange set up, what with the tv thing. Its a shame Eurosport don't look at the "real" pro game instead.
There are alternatives. Go to a Queensbury Show if you haven't already. Make a comment after.

BBBofC = Professional
Queensbury = Unlicensed bollocks[/quote]
If you are saying the likes of Kristian Laight and Bheki Moyo and some of Latvia's finest are examples of a professional organisation like the BBBofC, then I have either found a cure for insomnia or I have wasted a great deal of money in the past.

I don't agree with the above mate, how many BBofC shows are actually televised ? - a very, very small minority.Alba wrote:

At least Queensbury are actually trying to promote their shows, which is a lot more than a lot of BBBofC promoters appear to be doing.
It appears to me that the following happens (massive generalisations coming ....).
At the top end, you sign somebody like Luke Campbell, get them on Dancing on Ice etc. and before you know it everybody in Hull wants a ticket.
For a lot of others it is a case of the promoter saying to the boxer "sell 100 tickets or you are not fighting" - say this to half a dozen home boxers and there is your card and there is your crowd.
How is that promoting ?
I haven't seen much of Queensbury but it sounds as though they are trying to do something different.
Re: Semi pro queensbury
Fair point mate, but they might make extra money from sponsorship of the there shows ... but i wouldent imagine it would make a significant differnce ... As for trying something different, yes that could work but a league format could maybe work in licensed boxing but that level isint awash with cash so it wont really work to get off the ground. Loads of promotors promote in different ways wether its via a tv app, there facebook site to getting there fighters in the local press and posters etc ... just cause they dont pay for there adverts in the trade press or tele dosent mean the promotor aint trying ...bripez wrote:I don't agree with the above mate, how many BBofC shows are actually televised ? - a very, very small minority.Alba wrote:

It comes down to comeptition aswell ,if there was a unlincesed show or a licensed show in your area and both similery priced what would you go to? i know i would always prefer the licensed one as i know there is a better chance of seeing a figther who could develop ,and while some fights might be a bit one sided, i know that i would enjoy seeing a journeyman give it a go rather than a complete mis match ....
Re: Semi pro queensbury
I haven't seen a queensbury show live - but I would imagine Eurosport to cover a wide range of it - last show was broadcast over 2 x 1 hour programmes and covered things like a "novice" championship. Am I right to assume this is about the lowest standard on queensbury.
That Cuban Middleweight isn't too shabby and looks the business physique wise.

Re: Semi pro queensbury
there will be someone next month on QBL who has beaten lads who have beaten Laight, doesnt necesarilly mean anything, just annoys me how some people just assume all the unlicensed lads couldnt even be fit to lace the boots of a pro journeyman, yes theres some turds about, but theres some good lads too.Are they in QBL?
Seems to be a lot of snobbery about it all, especially on boxrec.
Theres more and more lads turning pro via the unlicensed circuit than ever before.

Kristian Laight would do every single fighter in the Queensbury thing, he's a lot better than he looks, if he could sell tickets he might have made it to title level. To be stopped just 4 times in 180 fights is incredible. He's gone the distance with Kevin Mitchell, Martin Gethin, Lee Purdy, Gary Sykes, Tommy Coyle, Shayne Singleton, Derry Mathews, Terry Flanagan, Jazza Dickens, Martin J Ward, Jon Kays, Tom Stalker and more and the only men to stop him have been Martin Gethin, Nadeem Siddique, John Fewkes and Dale Miles, the last of those 4 years ago. No unlicensed fighter is capable of coming anywhere near that sort of record, their licenses would be taken within 20 fights because they were getting stopped too often.

Don't think Kristain could have gone much further mate no power imo
Re: Semi pro queensbury
Laight might well beat them, if he tried to win...
The impression I get with the likes of QBL is you generally have two fighters who want to beat each other and try to do so, which isn't the case as much as it should be in pro boxing.
