Re: The Best White Heavyweight of All Time
Sonofabitch..... @ Powell.... UGH!!!! *eighty-sixed from the tournament*
***************************************************************************
Thus far the tallies are....
3-2 Wach over Dunne
3-2 Pastrano over Kaufman
4-1 Kirkman over McCoy
5-0 Chuvalo over Moran
3-2 Bobick over Povetkin
3-2 Golota over Lasky
3-2 London over Root
3-2 Kilrain over Cobb
4-1 Cooney over Mavrovic
5-0 Cooper over Knox
4-1 Brennan over Levinsky
************************************************************************
Also, I think, it helps give lesser guys a chance to add wins to their resumes before entering into deeper waters against the likes of Marciano, Jeffries, Dempsey, etc. so at the tournaments end we can break it down to who had the most wins, and break it down into categories--- Group A being the best of the best, and so on and so forth.
***************************************************************************
My two cents on this particular round in the tournament....
Mariusz Wach TKO 8th Dunne
Willie Pastrano Decisions Kaufman
Boone Kirkman Decisions Kid McCoy
George Chuvalo Decisions Moran
Duane Bobick TKO 11th Povetkin
Andrew Golota Decisions Lasky
Brian London Decisions Root
Henry Cooper TKO 8th Knox
Bill Brennan Decisions Levinsky
Zeljko Mavrovic Decisions Cooney
Randall Cobb Decisions Jake Kilrain
**********************************************************************
Bringing the tally now to........
5-1 Brennan
6-0 Cooper
4-2 Cooney
3-3 EVEN; Coob/Kilrain
4-2 London
4-2 Golota
4-2 Bobick
6-0 Chuvalo
5-1 Kirkman
4-2 Pastrano
4-2 Wach
**********************************************************************
Voting continues on for another hour!

It's been sort of hard managing the win/loss ratio in the tournament by myself, I admit.I had Pm'd him about Powell; hoped to catch him before people started voting.
Really don't understand this tournament. Some guys have already won a match and are scheduled again already while others have not had a match yet. Cooney, Cobb, Brennan,Levinsky and Kilrain already won and are scheduled again already. There may be others.
Meanwhile Marciano, Jeffries, Dempsey, and probably some others have not had any yet.

Re: The Best White Heavyweight of All Time
I was wondering when you'd throw in Marciano, Dempsey, et al. Rocky Marciano was probably the best of the white heavyweights up until Klitschko, who has too much size and reach for the Rock to even get close. Klitschko by close decision.
But to play along:
AXEL SCHULZ KO 8 WILLIE PASTRANO
CARMINE VINGO Dec 10 LUTHER MCCARTY
INGEMAR JOHANSSON KO 6 FIREMAN JIM FLYNN
JACK DEMPSEY KO 2 TOM SHARKEY
JAMES J. JEFFRIES L10 FRANS BOTHA

After tallies of the seventh round....
3-3 EVEN Pastrano/Shulz---- my vote goes to Pastrano, so he moves forward
5-1 Luther McCarty moves on (no need for my vote)
6-0 Dempsey (no need for my vote)
6-0 Johansson
5-1 Jeffries
6-0 Nuesel
6-0 Sullivan
4-2 Fitzsimmons (THAT surprised the eff out of me it be that close in votes)
4-2 Baer
5-1 Bobick (is amazing that Duane has a three fight win streak in the tournament)
3-3 EVEN Morrison/Cooney (my vote goes to Gerry Cooney; but this was hardest match to pick)
6-0 Quarry
6-0 Braddock (2-0 so far in this tournament)
3-2 SCHAAF (close, close match up)
6-0 Tunney
3-2 Vitali Klitschko (close, close match up)
4-1 Marciano
5-1 Wladimir Klitschko
6-0 Layne (BTW, because the first two matches were 'errors', this would be Layne's 1st match in tournament)
4-2 Sanders
3-3 EVEN Burns/Wach (my vote goes for Burns; too quick, better all around fighter)

Re: The Best White Heavyweight of All Time
Summary After Seven Tournament Rounds
Number of Participants Eliminated: 74
Number of Participants Remaining: 48
Tournament Surprises:
-Duane Bobick, often disdained by most historians/critics for being a 'white hope' surprisingly enough is on a three fight win streak in the tournament, defeating even a alphabet champion in Alexander Povetkin--- and to a degree, Gerry Cooney is having the same success in the tournament
-Fighters of the 1880's and towards the 1940's have seldom lost in the tournament, being the hold outs, while the fighters of the passed thirty years have dropped out like flies often in their opening debuts in the tournament
-Alphabet champions and world title challengers Tommy Morrison, Zeljko Mavrovic, were eliminated in their tournament debuts--- yet Randall Tex Cobb managed two wins in the tournament--- a few other similar instances have occured in the tournament; one must wonder whether these contenders who made it, while other more 'greater' men failed, are being held in higher regard because of personal bias and/or maybe they were better than the so-called historians ever gave them credit for

Re: The Best White Heavyweight of All Time
Schaaf UD Savold
Cleroux UD Burns
Fulton UD McCarty (Luther probably could've reached a stage where he'd be a solid favorite over Fulton but hadn't gotten there yet at the time of his death)
Nova UD Braddock
Layne UD Chagaev (technical disadvantage made up via sheer work-rate, endurance, and rugged, dirty infighting; he also had some skills himself and knew how to trade in the exchanges and I think he'd stun Ruslan a few times)
Sharkey TKO 9 Golota
Baer KO 2 DeJohn
Fitzimmons UD Quarry (I just don't see Jerry's style matching well with a quick counter-puncher like Fitz)
Dempsey TKO 9 Schmeling
Jefferies KO 10 Conn
Cleroux UD Burns
Fulton UD McCarty (Luther probably could've reached a stage where he'd be a solid favorite over Fulton but hadn't gotten there yet at the time of his death)
