The fans speak, say Maidana and not Khan
Re: The fans speak, say Maidana and not Khan
Doesn't anyone else think that the entire purpose of this poll is to lower Khan's purse demands or am I being unfairly cynical about the unsullied boxing business.
I agree that at least Khan has more speed than Floyd which made the Zab fight entertaining for a few rounds. It would be nice to see Maidana cash in. I was very impressed with what he has learnt since he has been training with Garcia but the fight would be so predictable it would hardly be worth watching.
I can't think of anyone at Goldenboy except maybe Thurman that I would be interested in seeing against Floyd. It might be a bit early but he keeps rising to each challenge so he is as deserving as anyone else.

I agree regarding Floyd but that's just silly.jimcook wrote:khan doesnt desrve a fight with brook, let alone mayweather. all this shite about khans speed is laughable. the last time he used his speed to good effect was against kotelnik...years ago. mayweather would play with khan, and knock him out when he felt like it. at least maidana is winning, has a chin, and should guarantee that the fight will last more than three rounds. he also deserves the money. khan has constantly sought the easy route, and really needs to earn some kind of ranking by fighting, and beating someone dangerous.
Re: The fans speak, say Maidana and not Khan
As the above poster mentioned, Floyd is just playing a very clever game. If Maidana wins the poll, Floyd can say to Amir either you except this purse *even if it's peanuts* or il fight Maidana instead who the fans have voted for. Genius.
Re: The fans speak, say Maidana and not Khan
and in two of those fights he was beaten. the third , a narrow victory , was debatable. he went for garcia, because he was percieved as being an easy option. since garcia put him in his place he has had plenty of good opponents to chose from in a couple of very deep divisions...but who has he fought? molina and diaz. real tough opposition for a boxing superstar at the peak of his powers.Datsue wrote:jimcook wrote:khan doesnt desrve a fight with brook, let alone mayweather. all this shite about khans speed is laughable. the last time he used his speed to good effect was against kotelnik...years ago. mayweather would play with khan, and knock him out when he felt like it. at least maidana is winning, has a chin, and should guarantee that the fight will last more than three rounds. he also deserves the money. khan has constantly sought the easy route, and really needs to earn some kind of ranking by fighting, and beating someone dangerous.
Yes, a guy who has fought Maidana, Peterson & Danny Garcia within the space of a couple of years has obviously "constantly sought" the easy route.
Oh no, you're talking utter bollocks with that statement.
Re: The fans speak, say Maidana and not Khan
So if you get beaten in a fight it doesn't count towards fighting the best opponents?

You said Khan has "constantly sought the easiest route".
I pointed out factual evidence which showed you are talking bollocks.
& now you turn around & say "and in two of those fights he was beaten."
How, exactly, does your new statement further your contention that he seeks the easiest route?
People must never jump to unfounded conclusions about your dislike for the boy, as your reasons for doing so are so consistent, well-thought out, & obviously free of any hint of further bias.

cmon columbo, do you really believe khan would last 4 rounds with brook? brook is a genuine welter, maybe even light middle, who has big power. even if brook had no skill or movement what has khan got to keep brook from walking him down and sparking him out?

There's always been daft criticism of Khan but he fought the best available at the time, and it was Tim Bradey who didn't take the Khan fight.

He wasn't fighting the best opponents.SNG wrote:So if you get beaten in a fight it doesn't count towards fighting the best opponents?
Garcia was coming off a string of MDs and SDs over weak opponents and he decimated Khan. Peterson had a draw with Oritz and lost every round to Bradley. Maidana had just failed to put away the ageing, vulnerable Corley.

& that is to completely disregard what was said & the context of the conversation.
If I have to spell it out for you I'll get narky, so please read jimcook's post that I responded to, my response to that & the continuation of same. Leaping in mid-stream to worry away at something which was not the point of the fornicating conversation is not going to help here.

Re: The fans speak, say Maidana and not Khan
Peterson was handpicked to make Khan look good and was supposed to be an easy victory, Maidana had to chase him and threaten court action. Khan was also expected to handle Garcia as an alleged soft touch.Datsue wrote:jimcook wrote:khan doesnt desrve a fight with brook, let alone mayweather. all this shite about khans speed is laughable. the last time he used his speed to good effect was against kotelnik...years ago. mayweather would play with khan, and knock him out when he felt like it. at least maidana is winning, has a chin, and should guarantee that the fight will last more than three rounds. he also deserves the money. khan has constantly sought the easy route, and really needs to earn some kind of ranking by fighting, and beating someone dangerous.

Well, at least you're not avoiding the question.
But you are still being fvcking stupid, so well done!
Here on Earth One, how exactly have those peoples' careers panned out? & in light of the aforementioned consensus reality & hindsight, how was Khan going for soft options, fighting each of them in America? That's:
A bloke who beat him.
A bloke who unified championships further by beating an over-hyped Internet sensation.
A bloke who scored a stunning upset victory over another over-hyped Internet sensation.
All for world titles.
& with this, he's gone for soft touches, has he? Path of least resistance?
& furthermore, who the cunting fvck else should he have been fighting if not for these dudes, in order to have not "always sought the easy route"? King Kong? MechaGodzilla?
Re: The fans speak, say Maidana and not Khan
That's because the offer was made to Gary Shaw Promotions, whilst Bradley was getting stripped of his title and negotiating a move to Top Rank.SNG wrote:

It was simply a PR exercise to make Khan look good, when they knew full well Bradley couldn't take the fight anyway.

Don't agree with you, therefore I'm stupid. Nice going, think you need a nice cup of herbal tea.
The way their respective careers have panned out is irrelevant to the subject. At the time (please take note of that specific part as it's highly relevant) Peterson and Garcia were perceived as easy touches. The fact that they beat Khan doesn't suddenly change the narrative to Khan has always sought out the best.
I believe Khan would fight anyone but his team are a lot more cautious than him.

That's just not true.
Bradley was at Khan's fight with Zab Judah telling everyone he wanted to fight him. But because the money he was offered by HBO was only fractionally more than his guarantee on the back of beating Alexander, he didn't fancy a high risk fight and instead faced an ancient Joel Casamayor to fulfill his HBO contract.
The offer wasn't made to Gary Shaw, Bradley had a contract with HBO. Shaw might of been his promoter by name at that point, but that did not stand in the way of the match.
Not everything in boxing is some ridiculous ploy to make Amir Khan look good.

No, you're being fvcking stupid for sticking up for/siding with people whose agenda is so obvious it's written in ten-mile high letters of fire across the sky.jtourettes wrote:

Not that you are fvcking stupid.
Look. Are you seriously criticising Khan for his opposition? Because that's what two people are trying to do, & they claim he has "always sought the path of least resistance".
I say again: how has he managed to seek "the path of least resistance" whilst fighting, in the space of about two years:
1) a current belt-holder at the weight
2) a guy who became a belt-holder at the weight after his reign & now holds a belt a division higher
3) the current unified & obviously number one guy at the weight who has finished the Innnernetz stardom of a massively hyped "proper fighter", who looked for long stretches like he had no idea what to do with the kiddy in front of him?
Coming out with "Oh but this means he didn't face the top competition" & "Oh but lawyers/conspiracies/space vampires!" when he patently has not chosen the path of least resistance, when that's exactly the phrase I took issue with...
That, mate, is being fvcking stupid.
Good day.

Their careers post Khan are completely irrelevant to the perception of them at the time they were chosen to be Khan opponents. They were chosen because they were expected to be light touches. How was Garcia a soft touch? He was an unbeaten WBC champion. Khan was offered Morales for that fight. A khan vs brook fight really excites me. If amir can stay away for 12 he wins on points. If brook glances khan, brook wins. Thats an intriguing match up.
If mayweather rebukes khan and alexander fights bradley in a rematch, could it possibly happen?
Not sure khan would want it.
