It puzzles me what people expect sometimes

Of course the opponent isn't great, but he can only fight who ever is in front of him and his mandatory's, which he has done, he's welcomed and called for any challengers.

John Murray, Kevin Mitchell, Kell Brook, Ricky Hatton to name but a few had a lot more fights than what Frankie's had before they even fought anyone half decent never mind fighting for a world title.

Whilst that's true lets not forget only 1 of those 4 men actually won a world title. Lets use him to the the rest of what you said off.

Hatton fought Lauri in fight #21, by that point he had been a profession for 3 years...Frankie has been a pro for damn close to 5.

It doesn't just matter how many fights you have but also how regularly you're having them and the expectation and hype you have around you. Gavin has hype, expectation amateur pedigree etc but 5 years on he's STILL fighting at this sort of level.

It puzzles me that people actually defend him still.

And that 1 man had 39 fights in over 8 years before he fought for world title

I doubt Sacky's up to much and it will probably be over quickly, but he's WBO #14, which is why Frankie's fighting him and it gets the Commonwealth defence out the way. The plan, as Frankie has stated, is to get this lad out the way, then a final eliminator in Birmingham in June/July against Bethuel Ushona, who was comfortably beaten by Denton Vassell a few years ago, but he's ranked #2, behind Pacquaio so he will be #1 after Bradley-Pacquiao II. After that it's up to Fwank to work his WBO magic and force the mandatory quickly. If the mandatory's enforced, Bradley or Pacquiao would likely vacate, leaving Frankie to fight for a vacant title at home and the last mandatory for the WBO belt was Cotto-Jennings in February 2009, so it's long overdue.

That's a big "if" though. As you point out, there hasn't been one for years.

Beating these guys isn't exactly ideal preparation for world class.

It's Fwank VVarren with the WBO, it might take a few months, but he'll get the mandatory enforced and the fact there hasn't been one for 5 years only helps his case.

True - not only that, Hatton turned pro as an 18 year old kid and not a 24 year old man who was World amateur champion.

Assuming that Gavin has now settled his personal and training stuff he needs to get a move on. If he doesn't sell many tickets then why not take a flyer and go for an opportunity abroad that will be wither for a World Title or put him in the mix for one.

I am sure that if you said to Gavin 5 years ago that he would be in this position and hoping to move on a spurious alphabet title that he would not have believed you.

Seriosuly though thats embarassing. Just look at what Matchroom did with Purdy getting the European champ over late last year. That should have been Frankie in a show in Birmingham. 8 months since the Vassel and quality of opposition has regressed real shame as he impressed me that night.

If it's a vacant title I'd tend to agree mate. But if it's Pac (or to a lesser extent, Bradley) - little to no chance they get pressured into fighting Gavin. Similar to Rabchenko - he won't be fighting FM for the WBC title any time soon.

Any governing body bends over backwards to keep the likes of Pac as their champion rather than force them to fight challengers who have little or no profile worldwide. If Gavin could beat some names and get people interested outside the UK, that would help his cause no end. Fighting the likes of Ushona won't help him do this. FW would be better off trying to get the likes of Collazo for Gavin in the next 12 months. It's not just about the ranking in the Welterweight division, it's about profile.

Bundu has a mandatory up next against Gianluca Branco and he isn't ranked by the WBO, which is the route they're taking. Frankie's ranked 5 by the WBO, as bad as he's likely to be, Sacky's #14, so beating him will move him up the rankings to guarantee the Ushona fight that's lined up for the summer is a final eliminator and it means he keeps hold of the Commonwealth belt incase he has to wait for the world title shot, so there's still fights out there for him. So, shit opponent and what should be an easy victory, but it moves him up the WBO rankings and Sacky will be cheap, which is why Wazza has brought him over rather than some of the other fighters in the WBO top 15 that are available.

This promise of a bigger fight next, has been branded about for long while, always next time, I don't think the money or the tickets sales are there, to make it happen, Warren is going to have to build Gavin's profile up, like Hearn did with Brook, market him and build him up in Birmingham, with him on smaller venues to start with, progressing to larger venues later on, the other way would be to put on another magnificent seven show, at a big venue, but has he got the fighters this time to do that ?

I'd not like to see either Frankie or Bundu knocked off; I think that Gavin needs a decent test, he did marvelous against Vassell who is an excellent fighter. Bundu shined v Purdy and I'd like to see him get a straight shot or a go at Brook. Though I think Brook is very good and a strong solid boxer I think Frankie or Bundu may upset him if they boxed this year. (I'm not trolling there, Brook is very good but may go over).
