Dean Pithie from Coventry, who went 25-5 as a pro, beat Naseem Hamed convincingly in the Amateurs

I know I am way late in this discussion, but I beat Nonito Donaire, and Anthony Dirrell. Then my younger brother Drew Hartman beat Anthony Peterson.
Travis Hartman beat Nonito Donaire in 1995 silver gloves, first round (my only claim to fame, lol) . Hartman won title that year over Frankie Caruso and repeated in 1996.
Travis Hartman beat Anthony Dirrell in the 1998? or 1997, National PAL.
Drew Hartman beat Anthony Dirrell in the 1996 National Silver GLoves finals.

James Tillis beat Renaldo Snipes around 76-78.
Re: Amateurs who vanquished future top pros
Oliver Duddy to my knowledge was supposed to box Naseem Hamed in a young Ireland v young England match. hamed pulled out and he boxed Michael Brodie instead. he knocked Michael Brodie out in 2 rounds. my understanding of it was hamed wanted no part of duddy at the time cos brendan ingle was on to his connections in Ireland asking about duddy. oliver duddy also boxed Janos nagy at the euoropean juniors. apparently was giving a boxing lesson to, well up on points only to suffer a cut eye. Janos nagy went on to fight for the super feather weight world title.
Re: Amateurs who vanquished future top pros
MIke Ayala beat a young Thomas Hearns, around 1975, I think.

Re: Re:
And Hamed beat Acevedo; it was a junior USA team boxing in London, Hamed was the only home boxer to win. Shaun Gray did well, dropped his man hard but lost on points. Steve Murray became a very good pro as did Spencer Oliver who is an excellent commentator on SKY sports.ramosboxingDOTcom wrote:Moses wasn't there at the fight. (Is Brittingham still in jail?)

Hamed boxed Brodie on a club show, I think in Ancoates; Hamed knocked Brodie out in around 20 seconds of the first round, pretty much the first punch he threw. Hamed was the best around at his weight and for his age, a lot is made of the Pithie bout but the Ingle gym had a few decisions go against them back then - the amateurs and pros trained together and it wasn't the done thing for the authorities. There is no way that Brenden Ingle would have been frightened of putting Hamed in with anyone - Paul Griffin was a very good Irish amateur and he came to the Ingle gym - as good as Paul was (more accomplished than Oliver Duddy) Hamed was the boss.

hamed beat brodie in cheetamhill, it was at the irish club, first round stoppage not a twenty second knockout. my mate sweety beat hamed on points, and jim watt stopped john h stracy in a round.palooka wrote:boxfanire wrote:Oliver Duddy to my knowledge was supposed to box Naseem Hamed in a young Ireland v young England match. hamed pulled out and he boxed Michael Brodie instead. he knocked Michael Brodie out in 2 rounds. my understanding of it was hamed wanted no part of duddy at the time cos brendan ingle was on to his connections in Ireland asking about duddy. oliver duddy also boxed Janos nagy at the euoropean juniors. apparently was giving a boxing lesson to, well up on points only to suffer a cut eye. Re: Amateurs who vanquished future top pros
I believe my husband's cousin fought Prince naseem as an amateur and beat him twice. Apparently knock out in the third round. We think at Doncaster dome. His name is Shaun poxton. Does anyone know about this?
Re: Amateurs who vanquished future top pros
Johnny Carter beat Jeff Chandler in 1975/1976.

Leo Sweeney beat Charley Burley 5 times...

Re: Amateurs who vanquished future top pros
Happy to be proved wrong but I doubt it. Googling Shaun Poxton doesn't return anything boxing related (as far as I can see). Hamed only lost 5 times as an amateur so I imagine if someone beat him twice, once by knock out, there would be an article about it somewhere. Also I'm pretty sure Hamed was never knocked out.
Dean Pithie, and possibly Michael Brittingham, beat Hamed in the amateurs, I'm not sure of the others.
