Damned if they do...If professional boxing managers and promoters blatantly funded child and youth boxing programmes, they would be slated. Where's the money going ??

The money was never in boxing in the first place. If anything the event like this bring the money into boxing.dalcumly wrote:Great discussion now.
I'm not talking about Froch and Groves earning their money, and by the way, I'm not suggesting for a minute that they should give something back. I'm talking about SKY Sports and particularly Eddie Hearn.
Months after the fight £18 million will have gone OUT of boxing into a few private pockets of people who have not served their time in boxing.

I don't think you are looking at it in the right way, it is 18 million that before had little or nothing to do with boxing, and now does.

I guess that no money is in boxing to begin with then lolDMA1987 wrote:The money was never in boxing in the first place. If anything the event like this bring the money into boxing.dalcumly wrote:Great discussion now.

Re: Where's the money going ??
It would be completely improper for a proportion of the revenue generated by Froch/Groves 2 to go to Howard Foster.dalcumly wrote:The Froch v Groves fight is being promoted as a huge event. An expected 80,000 crowd at Wembley and goodness knows how many pay per view buys. Could it possibly sell 750,000. Lets say the live gate proceeds comes to around £8 million ( and average of £100 each given overall ticket prices, programmes etc) and the pay per view tops £10 million, it would be an incredible sum to come into boxing. So who gets the money ??? , and how much of it will go back into boxing ? and why is it that the only sport in this country to come under the 'pay per view' umbrella is boxing ??
There is expense and a degree of risk involved but I would imagine that SKY will make millions and Adam Smith will earn a huge bonus. Eddie Hearn will clear millions and Froch and Groves will never need to fight again to feed their families. So from approximately £18 million, less expenses, there's not a lot of people getting a share.
In other sports, football in particular, the money does filter down through the FA and the clubs to grass roots level, but in boxing, how can this possibly happen. I would like Adam Smith , Eddie Hearn , Carl Froch and George Groves to explain how they are going to spread some of the good news down to the people who made it possible for this to happen. I don't grudge anyone the right to earn, they've worked hard at promoting it ( is anyone else sick to the back teeth hearing about it on Ringside and reading it in Boxing News) but it is a huge amount of money being generated by boxing fans, casual or otherwise, and I'd like a little reassurance that some people are not laughing up their sleeves at us.

Footballers are worth whatever the boss is willing to pay them.
Do they earn obscene amounts of dough? Yep. Is it 'too much'? What's too much?
I say fair play to them ( and anyone who can earn big dough within reason )
The chance of becoming an elite level footballer is much smaller than becoming an elite level boxer. Football is about fifty times more popular than Boxing. The dough reflects this.

Re: Where's the money going ??
Nobody would feel sorry for Matchroom/sky or refund their losses if the full thing fell apart and the PPV flopped therefore they deserve the profit for taking the risk.
As for Froch/groves, Fighters have a short career and deserve to make their £££'s whilst they can. I seen internet posts talking about Mayweather earning thousands of dollars a second for his '36 mins' of work against Maidana. They forget to include the weeks of training camps, years of training in general or the fact that they took the risk of going into a business where the majority fail when they could have taken the security of a normal job earlier in their lives.
I understand what the general idea is about grass roots etc but fighters can do that by showing up in gyms and encouraging young fighters, sky can doing it by showing amateur championships, matchroom can do it by signing prospects etc. its not all about throwing your hard earned ££s into local gyms etc.

Eddie Hearn is not a charity? Neither is Sky Sports money is what drives this. When Eddie Hearn makes a lot of money on an event like this HE DOES reinvest it in boxing. Not in the way you imagine maybe.dalcumly wrote:Great discussion now.

If he makes a lot of money on an event like this and likewise for Sky they then sit down and go hmmmmm I wonder how we could do this again as well made lots of money. It encourages Sky and Hearn to invest in boxing in order to creat more nights like this which will generate more money which is good for boxing and boxing fans.
So Sky will give Hearn a bigger budget to make more fights to make more money. Hearn will sign more fighters and make more good fights in the hope to build them up to this level so he can make loads of money all over again!
GREAT EH?!

Football isnt a sport, its a business to some, an indulgence to others .
Why do Man U pay Rooney 240k a week - because the number crunchers believe he makes them more.
Why do Man City pay (whoever) 200k a week - because he (sheik) can in search for ultimate buzz.
"Soldiers earn 25k a year, footballers 200k a week - this is disgusting" - well when 80,000 people turn up and pay 50quid a pop to watch a soldier march ill agree.
Footballs insane. But Mayweather earns more than the top players.

I've always hated that soldier/nurse argument. Nobody ever complains that singers/actors make daft money, yet footballers get the stick. A lot of modern footballers are idiots but like you allude to, it's simple supply and demand economics. So good luck to them I'd say.
Re: Where's the money going ??
I don't blame footballers, but it really doesn't sit well with me how much they're on when they quite simply don't deserve it. Yes Mayweather earns more but boxing is a lot harder than football and until you get mad sponsorships, you don't get paid if you dont fight. You're average lad can play 90mins of football at a decent level. You're average lad could definitely not do 6 rounds in a ring with even a half decent boxer never mind 12. I understand the business reasons why footballers get paid more but it doesn't make it right.winkveron wrote:Wales wrote:100% spot on.lillywhite14 wrote:Footballers are worth whatever the boss is willing to pay them.
