You're at mercy of indexing, but I used Lexis to compate the broadsheet coverage of the two events. I've got The Guardian, Independent & Times running approx. 12 Benn-Eubank stories between Oct 1/Nov 16 1990. I've got The Guardian, Independent & Times running approx. 21 Froch-Groves stories between May 1st and yesterday. I added The Daily Star, Mirror/Sunday Mirror & Sun to my Froch-Groves 2 number crunch. Between 1 May to today there's been approx. 74 articles. It works out as The Sun (43), The Mirror (22) & The Star (9). Without duplicates it's 68. I widened it to include news wires plus regional papers and got 558 #FrochGroves2 articles published between the 1st and today c/o LexisNexis News. Moving from print to web, I ran a Froch-Groves 2 search on Google for the past 24 hours and got 256 options using the Full Coverage link.

Not sure what that proves, but the print numbers are interesting. Benn-Eubank was on a Sunday as well, back when a Sunday was a harder sell.

It's hard to compare as Google wasn't about back then, the Internet was but there's been 1001 search engines since then and the majority of articles just weren't online at the time (some make them available after the event).

I've yet to have anyone at work ask me about the fight (or the previous one) and the acid test is usually my mum, but she's not mentioned the rematch to me. I think being on SKY PPV is keeping it away from "ver public" to an extent.

In short, I can't decide if it's mainstream enough. I don't think it is, despite articles being written about it.

But your Granny wouldn't have bought a ticket or PPV. Neither of the fights you've mentioned were sell outs... Everyone goes on about viewing figures but in reality, we had little choice. I used to watch Kabadi and NFL on Ch4 and Cell block h, not because I loved them, there was nothing else on! All those who gob off about the "golden era" but don't watch fights are full of sh!t.

I thought this. WTF he should be cheered. Boxing fans do my nut in at times. I like Degale. As I've said in another thread, I popped into the weigh in as I had the day off and I'm a londoner, and the boos pissed me off. Also some of the things said about Froch as he stepped onto the scales... I noticed that the idiots who said them couldn't bring themselves to say it very loudly: "international superstar!" "He's a c*nt!" (repeatedly) probably for fear of of a Froch fan ripping off their head. Made me ashamed to be a 'cockney'.

It's OK to get caught up in the fighter you're supporting, but they're all putting it on the line. Show some respect. It's not a fornicating football match.
