No1 gave groves any shit for his constant ridicule of Carl after the first fight, he was going on about how awful carls technique is etc. Or for saying Carl could get seriously hurt in the rematch. Or paddy going to the BBBC. It seems there's one rule for George's behaviour and another for carls. It's hardly like he's pissing in the guys face. And it is boxing, not a knitting circle.

That is a decent interview, Groves thought he was winning in a close fight up to the KO and so do others on here.
Carl's gloating quotes through the interviewer must have slightly stung though.

I was in complete control of the fight and I won the first fight but didnt get the decision? He does realise that it's 12 rounds right so even if he was winning like he was he hadnt actually won the fight and got robbed lolFinal round wrote:'Fair play to Carl, he digs deep and is always dangerous, he managed to get that shot'.columbo wrote:Groves wasnt exactly full of humility in this interview http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYBwqvo_vMg

The issue with Fitzpatrick I really had problem with, was him bad mouthing Rob McCracken. Openly calling him a liar through more than one interviews.
Very disrespectful to a guy who I thought has stayed loyal and classy throughout the whole saga.
As for Froch and Groves? Well, one guy did everything he said he would, and one did very little of what he said he would. Summed it up for me at the end when Froch was swanning around with the 60,000 let in the stadium cheering him whilst George sat in the corner with an oxygen mask on whilst one of his corner men still had those daft bloody headphones with the '6' on them looking on.
Everything for a reason.

Re: Froch comments on Gavin (Paddy) Fitzpatrick
Personally I think Carl was probably all for being gracious, he was directly after the fight. But right from the off Groves was saying he was 'completely controlling the fight'. Decent way to get someone's back up.
Re: Froch comments on Gavin (Paddy) Fitzpatrick
Groves has a problem. It is good that he has loads of self confidence and belief in his abilities but I get the sense that Groves is in denial regarding his weaknesses. It's all very well him believing he was winning both fights (I agree with him in that I think he was) but Championship fights last for twelve rounds and it doesn't matter diddly squat how far you are in front if someone puts you on your backside and you can't get up again. That in itself is a weakness. OK the first stoppage was too early, I think that is readily accepted but there was absolutely no argument in the second fight. Unless Groves accepts that he has weaknesses and faces up to them he is going to be the worse for it because those weaknesses are always going to be there.
I keep reading and hearing Groves go about how he was in control and he has the better technique and how he is the harder hitter etc etc but the fact that he got beat on both occasions tells its own story.
It's fine to blow your own trumpet when you can back up what you say but Georgie your words at the moment are cheap and meaningless. You have weaknesses and you need to accept that and put maximum effort into finding a way to either strengthen them or at least disguise them in the ring so they don't come back to cost you again.

He wasn't such a dick vs Degail, Booth would've advised him what to say, how to get fans on you side and how to avoid getting KOd on his way to a points win
He lost twice to the better man. Booth can't change that fact.
Re: Froch comments on Gavin (Paddy) Fitzpatrick
The issue is that for all of Groves silky skills and fast hands and fast feet he does leave more openings than say an Andre Ward does and on top of that whilst his chin is not terrible by any stretch it's nothing special either. In some ways he reminds me of Bute. Bute has/had fast hands and fast feet and could punch. However he also had some defensive deficiencies and again didnt take the best shot. I think Groves has a better chin that Bute though and definietly more heart and fighting spirit but there are some similarities there for me.Tomasino wrote:danconnollyeire wrote:George should bitterly regret leaving Booth. I do think Booth was very important for Groves. At the top level of any sport it's often small margins and minor details that can make a difference. Booth is very, very good at what he does and i can't help thinking Groves is a lesser fighter without booth's influence.
Whether or not booth being around Groves would've changed either fight is pure conjecture no-one can know for certain no more than anyone can say for certain that Marciano would've beaten Ali or Ali would've beaten Tyson or Tyson would've beaten Joe Louis. Yes, we can all have opinions but without evidence they're not really worth much.
Re: Froch comments on Gavin (Paddy) Fitzpatrick
Also Bute fought an absolutely horrendous fight against Froch. Everytime he would get tagged with a good shot he would retreat to the ropes of his own volition and then proceed to let Froch tee off on him which was bloody bizarre. I think there was some overconfidence on Bute's behalf going into that fight.

Those headphones are "Beats". It's a B, not a 6. Apple have just bought them out for $3bn. Rapper Dr Dre was the founder. I suspect that Groves and his teaming wearing them were trying to appeal to the younger generation as being cool.garethhop wrote:Summed it up for me at the end when Froch was swanning around with the 60,000 let in the stadium cheering him whilst George sat in the corner with an oxygen mask on whilst one of his corner men still had those daft bloody headphones with the '6' on them looking on.
That sort of thing, in addition to the shamelessly indulgent ring walk, and handing out gingerbread men to the children in Westfield, it all looks pathetic and desperate now. I bet he genuinely believed that he was going to be the next big star in world boxing.
My prediction for Groves is that he will be sparked again and will be proven as being unable to hold a shot. His style won't be as appealing now either as he will be forced to be more defensive in future and top level opponents will be looking to follow the Froch blueprint of testing his stamina and looking to tag him knowing he'll go down if he's caught.
Re: Froch comments on Gavin (Paddy) Fitzpatrick
I have to admit I used to think he'd beat the likes Abraham and Stieglitz pretty easily. Now particularily in regards to Abraham im not so convinced. He has the same kind of Froch toughness and he lets go with those wild heavy shots and it wouldnt surprise me if Groves was outboxing him and then proceeded to get poleaxed like he did against Froch. Bika would be another terrible stylistic matchup for him for the same reasons. Im not convinced he'd beat a shot Kessler either.johnswan1 wrote:Those headphones are "Beats". It's a B, not a 6. Wow, do you Brits like to give your stars a hard time. It's difficult to imagine a thread like this anywhere else in the world, controversial first stoppage or not.
I mean, say what you will about Americans, after the second knockout they'd be giving the winner the credit and all this: "Yeah but he said..... yeah but the other guy said....." stuff would disappear overnight.

Groves appears to have a number of traits that flash warning signs of narcacism.
He cannot accept defeat and looks for any excuse to put the blame on why he lost.
A number of gingers

Re: Froch comments on Gavin (Paddy) Fitzpatrick
Carl should really be thanking George for the way he was, he will pocket £££s and that punch is one to dine out on.
I think both fighters have behaved terribly, George was telling what he feels is true but was getting bloody annoying, Carl totally disrespected boxing and George by his behaviour and lack of motivation towards the 1st fight. Where would he have gone had he lost to George after preparing so poorly, performing poorly it certainly wouldn't be Vegas. This time around Carl has cleared his mind but lets himself down with his comments about both George and now his latest ones about degale.
Carl has an issue with fighting people who he believes are below him IMO but he was calling out joe before he had earnt his stripes.
Either way its over, Carl goes to Vegas and will fight Chavez dodging ward and George will find some European to beat up and then face the winner of Abraham v smith(always a punchers chance)
