Mate Parlov
Re: Mate Parlov
Sheila could you please tell me how good Miguel Angel Cuello was?
According to cyberboxingzone.com "Cuello was a talented fighter and solid puncher who had a short career but a very successful one; He was proof that a boxer does not need many, many bouts to be a outstanding man."

Re: Mate Parlov
Why do you want someone who only joined last week and has 11 posts to his name,to provide fighters details? ![[icon_e_confused.gif]](./images/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif)

Come on Buzz, do your job.
If you don't have the authority, get someone who does, to boot this fool for good.
Remember, he is banned for entering fake fights into the database.

Re: Mate Parlov
Mate Parlov vs. John Conteh
Mate was superior with an accurate right-jab {chopping style} and quick left-hands thru 9-Rounds.
As Mate started to tire {late in Round 10}, he started to slap with his punches. John Conteh then turned
into an aggressive wild-man, and came on strong down the stretch.
A very close fight, and the {2-Point} foul deductions prevented John Conteh from earning a Draw 15.

Scorpio, I'm a lazy poster myself, but how come you took a pretty long break between April and this month?scorpio83 wrote:Sheila could you please tell me how good Miguel Angel Cuello was?

Re: Mate Parlov
Flump,
Ever since the one who gave details about certain fighters was banned for something he should not do, but I'm interesting of any fighters who were impressive like how good was there jab, best punch and something like that. He possibly comeback under another username.
Anyways, if I ask another user who knows the detail of one of the fighters that we never know what was their best punch, they would ignore and not give the information that I might wanted. This is why I stop asking about fighters' details and took a break.

Having more female posters like Shelia will add some class to this board.
Re: Mate Parlov
Boxing News,
Had reported that Mate Parlov was offered an astronomical fight purse to defend his WBC Light-Heavyweight
Championship against John Conteh in Wembley Stadium for early 1978.
A $400,000 {total fight purse} was on the table.

Re: Mate Parlov
I'm very surprised how so many men members here know so little about Mate Parlov.
I thought this was a sharp boxing site. I guess I was wrong.

Mate Parlov vs. John Conteh
The Brits argue that John Conteh was robbed. But, John waited too long to make his hard and aggressive
attack.
Mate Parlov edged out many of the Rounds {1 thru 9}, as John was just not scoring, while Mate poked away
with pecking and chopping right jabs. Mate also added in many lightning-fast left-hand leads and counters to
Conteh's face.
Thru 9 Rounds,
> Gil Clancy had Mate Parlov ahead {6-2-1 in Rounds}, and 88-83 in Points.
> Angelo Dundee had Mate Parlov ahead {5-3-1 in Rounds}, and 87-84 in Points.
John Conteh was penalized {1-Point} in Round 8 by Referee - Rudy Ortega for an intentional head-butt. John had
been previously warned 3-times by the Referee.
John had head-butted Mate in Round 6, which opened a cut on the edge of his right-eye.
John Conteh had his best Round in the 10th. Mate had started off well, but started to fade during the 2nd half of the
Round, as John was starting to land left-hooks to the body which bothered Mate and had him protecting his sides.
Late in Round 10, Mate looked hurt {in the body}, and was on the defensive as John attacked like a wild-man.

Re: Mate Parlov
Although it was clear to most of us who watched the fight that John Conteh lost to a home town decision, that was not the scandal. It has happened all around the world for as long as boxing matches have been decided (subjectively) on points, on the OPINION of judges. The scandal was that Mate Parlov was 'allowed' to use a 'plastic skin' covering to protect the scar tissue around his eyes in this bout. Despite protests from the Conteh camp Parlov was allowed an extra (illegal) layer of protection around his delicate eyes. That was the real scandal and to those of us who were aware of this before the fight, well, we knew that if John did not take him out he would not leave with the title. Not all boxing scandals took place before 1965..................................

Cuello doesn't cover himself with glory at the end.
Re: Mate Parlov
WBC Light-Heavyweight Championship
Miguel Cuello vs. Mate Parlov
Not to take anything away from Mate Parlov's solid performance, but Miguel Angel Cuello was coming
off several injuries {ribs, hand, ankle and eye}.
The injuries hampered his training. As you can see in the bout, Miguel was not as solid as when he
KO'd Jesse Burnett back on May 21, 1977. He actually looked like a soft body.
And it was only the 2nd-Bout in 15-Months for the Argentinian Power-House who was nearly 32 years-old.
