Im sure Tyson and his team would want a replacement (within reason). However, you can rest assured that Fwank will be doing everything in his power to make sure this doesnt happen, so he can reschedule a rematch for late October - boring, yawn!!!

I've just checked his ranking, and BoxRec have Thompson way down at 23rd.

Didn't realise that he lost two of his last three.

I don't really get why Thompson is seen as a good opponent, he beat Price a couple of times, credit to him for finding Price's chin, but if you land clean on him there isn't much resistance. Since then he's lost to Pulev and Takam, scraped past Solis who I don't particularly rate anyway and got progressively fatter, I'd be surprised if he was under 20 stone at the moment.

thompson is a name that people will know in england for beating price simply as that and it would sell

Thompson is an avarage fighter in a bad era for the heavyweight. It's true that Fury made his camp to fight a short heavyweight like Chisora but i think he would not have big problems to fight and win Tony Thompson.Thompson never beat nobody very strong. The win over Price doesn't mean anything. He beat a prospect who beat nobody.

I disagree with that. He won the first 3 rounds and then Pulev adapted and took over the fight.

I am a bit confused here with the back up opponent plan. One boxer is 6'9" the other 6'1". So they trained for each other then the fight fell through (in the week leading up) so they meet someone at 6'5" with no preparation?
Also the back up fighter spars a 6'1" fighter in preparation one day then someone 6'9" the day after?

Fighters of the elite standard are expected to adapt to defeat their opponents, hence the reason they are at the top of the game.

He's right, Tyson's legs look weak, far too thin. No one's suggesting he goes overboard with it, just that he builds some muscle on to his legs, it would probably help his punch resistance and allow him to get some more power into his punches.

Fury's fight fitness isn't massively in question, the strength in his legs never seems an issue and his toughness is part of his plus points.

I am actually surprised to see Tyson is rated so highly on here that 88% have him to beat the guy who stopped David Price twice last year and beat Solis a few months ago!!

I rate Fury, but I guess when push comes to shove most people do actually think he is a pretty decent heavyweight.

I think Thompson punches hard enough to drop Fury, but not stop him, and I don't think Fury has enough power to KO Thompson. I can imagine Thompson losing by TKO more readily than I can Fury.

If I had to bet, I'd go for a points win on the toss of a coin. Fury's workrate should be much better, but Thompson has confidence in his own defence. Fury would need to upset that confidence to break down Thompson's will, but I'm not sure if he has the ability to throw the quantity of shots required without taking some in reply. I voted Thompson on points, just because he's no historic reason to fear Fury.

But then Fury has massive reach to go along with his workrate, and Thompson's not getting any younger. The one thing I'd be almost certain of is a scrappy fight.
