What Kovalev does well besides punch:Hopkins has faced and beaten down a generation of middleweights, super middles, and light heavies.Take away the Russian's power and we wouldn't even be debating this fight. What else does he bring to the table?
But power doesn't faze extraordinary fighters who are ring genius'.
For a reminder, see aging Ali vs. Foreman in Zaire.
Hopkins bomaye!
Throw in combination, mix his attack, time opponents, cut off the ring, maintain punching power while moving, and he's possibly the best finisher in boxing. LOL at people still bringing out the crude slugger lines; it's as if they don't bother to watch him fight and rarely do they explain why Kovalev should be considered a crude slugger. I also think the wins Hopkins scored several years ago are less important than you seem to think, because it will be the 2014 version of Hopkins--the one who recently lost widely to Dawson, was down twice and hurt against Pascal, and getting hit regularly by Murat--who is facing Kovalev.
But hey, Bernard Hopkins beat Kelly Pavlik several years ago, and Kovalev is a favored puncher like Pavlik, so that must mean that BHOP is going to prove all the critics wrong again and school this kid.
