So could Hopkins have defeated Adonis?
So could Hopkins have defeated Adonis?
Since I think it never happens now, how do you guys see that fight going down?
Read quote from BHOP sometime that he's thought Kova was easier matchup. Just mental games (IMO). IT'S the fight I preferred honestly. I can't see him waiting until mid-2015 or later for possible showdown with Adonis--who will be 38 next yr. Same as I'll be, also -- which ain't young. He's seems like a late bloomer so he'll most certainly be around after Bhop retires.
Would Adonis be too slick/fast/strong for BH? I don't think Adonis is SMART or SKILLED ENOUGH to catch Alien consistently

Re: So could Hopkins have defeated Adonis?
Adonis style is more problematic for Hopkins
Re: So could Hopkins have defeated Adonis?
anyone who was stopped by Darnell Boone can lose to Bernard Hopkins
Re: So could Hopkins have defeated Adonis?
I think Stevenson is the easier match-up than Kovalev. Kovalev seems to have more skill at hitting you from any angle. Stevenson seems to just have cannons for arms. I think Hopkins can avoid cannons more easily than he can avoid getting hit from every angle.
Re: So could Hopkins have defeated Adonis?
Even if Stevenson is an easier matchup, he is still too much for Bernard at 50.
Re: So could Hopkins have defeated Adonis?
Stevenson would be a much tougher match up for BHop than Kovalev, for one he's faster and he's a SP (but Nard does great against them) and he has better boxing pedigree and defense than Sergey.
I think this would be the fight that would be the toughest Hopkins has had in years/definitely more complicated than a fight with a guy like Kovalev.

lol, I should've known you'd come out of the closet to nitpick. Too bad you won't get what you're looking for, just accept that Stevenson is a far superior boxer than Kovalev is.
Adonis' skills are deep rooted in boxing coming out of the Kronk Gym.
Re: So could Hopkins have defeated Adonis?
Pre Steward, BHop would've dealt with him easily... But now Stevenson boxes laterally more and has decent in and out movement with the straight punch arsenal, it will be a tougher task. BHOP will have to cover more and would get hit to the body a lot.
Still i think BHop should be seen as the fav on slickness and ring smarts only

Re: So could Hopkins have defeated Adonis?
People who are picking Kovalev are doing so based on his power, they have feel in love with his ability to KO a bunch of bum nobodies and they're dismissing BHop because they think he is past it/old.TheBeast wrote:Pre Steward, BHop would've dealt with him easily... The more I breakdown this bout in my mind the more it looks like Hopkins vs Pavlik all over again except that Nard will be conservative on his punch output and Sergey doesn't throw as many punches as Pavlik and he's far slower too.
Re: So could Hopkins have defeated Adonis?
Did you mean his boxing while executing his pimp duties ? Because I don't see much amateur experience:Brut wrote:ikorolev wrote:How does he have a better pedigree ???

"Amateur career
Stevenson was Quebec Middleweight champion in 2004, and best amateur fighter of the country in 2005-2006. He also grabbed the Canada national title in 2005 and 2006. Stevenson competed in the XVIII Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia in 2006 and won the silver medal losing to Local Australian, Jarrod Fletcher in the final. It was also the only medal a Canadian boxer received at the games.
He holds a record of 33-5 in amateur contests."
Re: So could Hopkins have defeated Adonis?
It is so funny to listen to people who don't see Kovalev's skills behing his power. Power basically becomes a negative attribute. It would be hard to imagine somebody saying something like "he is just using his speed ..." or "he is just using his reach ...", but you can hear "he is just using his power".Brut wrote: People who are picking Kovalev are doing so based on his power, they have feel in love with his ability to KO a bunch of bum nobodies and they're dismissing BHop because they think he is past it/old.

Let's what you say after Hopkins is stopped by Kovalev. I just hope Bernard is wise enough to stay in his corner realizing that he doesn't need any more beating (after 2-4 rounds), so that he is not damaged too badly.
Re: So could Hopkins have defeated Adonis?
Either you have a very short term memory or you don't comprehend very well, I already told you that I'd congratulate Kova if he wins, especially by KO. What will you say after BHop soundly outboxes him?? Will you be happy for the Old Man? Or will you just continue to be the same old racist and hateful Troll that you've always been known for being on this forum??ikorolev wrote:It is so funny to listen to people who don't see Kovalev's skills behing his power. Re: So could Hopkins have defeated Adonis?
Yes, I will be happy for the old man if he beats Kovalev and not just presented a gift by hometown judges. What makes me a racist ? The fact that I cheer for Golovkin and Kovalev against some of possible opponents who happen to be black ? The only racist here is you.Brut wrote:Either you have a very short term memory or you don't comprehend very well, I already told you that I'd congratulate Kova if he wins, especially by KO.
