Re: Billy Joe Saunders v Eubank Jnr
The hype around Eubank reminds me of George Collins - the oldest of the fighting Collins brothers.
Saunders is a known, proven quality operator who has paid his dues amateur and pro.
Eubank, to date, is a hype machine who has benefitted from careful match making against limited opposition following on from a brief am career.
Saunders all day for me in this one

Hmm not sure about that he seems to have a lot of backing on here in terms of his ability which I have no problem with.CheckHook wrote:The hype over BJS and Eubank is night and day though, isn't it? Not many people are talking about BJS like he is a world beater, in fact there are plenty who think he has already got as far as he's ever going to get. In comparison Eubank has beaten no one, done nothing, KO'd no one of note but is talked about like a concussive puncher with silky smooth skills who can go all the way! I don't get it. At least BJS has already achieved and got a few notable scalps compared to Eubank.Crazyboy wrote:I just don't get the BJS hype.....I have seen him box twice live and more on TV but just fail to get excited by him, he's good for sure, but not amazing.
Its just my opinion that I don't think he is all that,
I am not even saying either of them is a big star or a world beater by the way....I just think Eubank beats BJS...that is all.
Re: Billy Joe Saunders v Eubank Jnr
Eubank looks more talented to me though, just going on raw ability. Also whilst I know its only sparring, the way he was dealing with Froch was impressive. I doubt Saunders would of been able to push Froch back like that.TerribleTerry wrote:The hype around Eubank reminds me of George Collins - the oldest of the fighting Collins brothers.

Re: Billy Joe Saunders v Eubank Jnr
You say he comes across very mentally strong but to me Eubank really gets under his skin. Him coming out with comments like "eubank sucks cock" proves that. Also swearing on his kids life that he would retire if he didnt stop eubank in 5 rounds puts undue pressure on himself and so on. He's clearly riled by Eubank.Benelio wrote:Actually, I'd disagree with this one. BJS has always struck me as a fighter who is very mentally strong, calm, but with a nasty streak in him too. With Eubank Jnr he just comes across as a bit surly and impatient to me, and I'm not sure how much of that is an act. I guess time will tell.95gerog wrote:The reason I'm picking eubank is because I think he has the edge mentally. Hats off to both taking this fight so early in their careers.
Re: Billy Joe Saunders v Eubank Jnr
A lot of the hype around Eubank jnr is also based on the sparring with Froch and also Groves seemed to rave about him aswell. I know it's just sparring but I think it says a fair bit.CheckHook wrote:The hype over BJS and Eubank is night and day though, isn't it? Re: Billy Joe Saunders v Eubank Jnr
Eubanks Blasting out crap opposition and staring at the camera will have left more of an impression on more people than BJS grueling title fights
thats the sad Truth of the matter as you get more casual fans intrested in that than solid boxing.
This fight is also a Quckier way of getting BJS name out to more fans so works well for him too.

Re: Billy Joe Saunders v Eubank Jnr
Honestly, I don't think it says anything.... Winning titles, fighting good opposition, that's what its all about and that's where BJS is streets ahead of Eubank. I'm still not seeing it myself. Hope the fight takes place, and honestly, despite his arrogance I'd have no problem if he proved me wrong. Truth is though I'm not even convinced he can make it competitive.lefty wrote:A lot of the hype around Eubank jnr is also based on the sparring with Froch and also Groves seemed to rave about him aswell. Re: Billy Joe Saunders v Eubank Jnr
True. However i remember when canelo first came on the scene and a lot thought he was just a protected cash cow who would be exposed by the top fighters in the division and yet he's gone on to be one of the top guys in the division with a limited amateur background. The saunders fight might be Eubanks coming out party.CheckHook wrote:Honestly, I don't think it says anything.... Can't really base much on a 10 second sparring clip, I doubt Eubank would be pushing Froch back in a real fight. Froch was training for the Groves rematch so may even have been under orders to let Eubank push him back during that session so he got a bit of practice under pressure.lefty wrote: Eubank looks more talented to me though, just going on raw ability. That is true. I remember seeing a Groves interview aswell though where he talked highly of Eubank jnr and said how he had caused him issues in sparring.Boxerbeetle wrote:Can't really base much on a 10 second sparring clip, I doubt Eubank would be pushing Froch back in a real fight. Really? I think it's very different. Remember Collins was an unbeaten amateur for years and won plenty of titles. Then he got chinned by Gary stretch in his last amateur fight.TerribleTerry wrote:The hype around Eubank reminds me of George Collins - the oldest of the fighting Collins brothers.

He got loads of hype as a pro, but I never really understood it. He never looked spectacular.
Eubank's amateur experience is fairly limited

Re: Billy Joe Saunders v Eubank Jnr
Raw ability doesn't count for much against a seasoned amateur and pro. I can't see anything other than I one sided win for Saunders.
I'm a fan of Chris Snr and because of this I would like to see his son do well, but it is much too soon for him. I would be happy to be proved wrong but just can't see it, and he doesn't look like he can win it with one punch.
If I was a betting man the fight won't happen, but if Jnr does take it it will be only because they really feel he will win or at least to well enough to show he belongs in that class.

When you put it like that (which is completely accurate) then Saunders really has to be the winner.TerribleTerry wrote:The hype around Eubank reminds me of George Collins - the oldest of the fighting Collins brothers.

What is the longest distance fight that Eubank has been involved?
Re: Billy Joe Saunders v Eubank Jnr
About an hour ago the poll was 10-4 BJS, now it's 13-12 Eubank.
A real burst of support for Jr. there.

Eubank Jr's twitter account is enough to make me want to see him knocked the fvck out.
What an absolute bellend.

Re: Billy Joe Saunders v Eubank Jnr
Didn't Eubank struggle for a while with Carruthers?
I think Olympian Saunders is going to give him fits and is levels above what Eubank has ever faced.
Cracking match up though!!

Re: Billy Joe Saunders v Eubank Jnr
Eubank's dad talked and bluffed his way into a WBO title fight with Nigel Benn and the rest is history. Chris did not contest the British, Commonwealth or European titles along the way, he just picked up a minor international title and faced hand-picked opposition. It was the hype, controversy and rivalry which made the fight happen. Benn was the big favourite and nobody knew how good Eubank was beforehand. It was a massive gamble.
Eubank jnr has admittedly faced worse competition than his dad had at that point. It is a calculated gamble, I imagine their confidence is based upon how well he's done in sparring with top fighters.
If this goes wrong for BJS it'll be one of the worst own goals for a British fighter in a long time. As a fan, I want to see this fight, but from the point of view of his career, this is all wrong for Saunders. If he wins, so what, he has exposed a hype job. He has everything to lose. I dunno what his contract status with Fwank is but if this goes wrong I can see him with Matchroom in 2015. He should be fighting for a world title, not facing Eubank jnr.

Re: Billy Joe Saunders v Eubank Jnr
Yeah but it should be a lucrative yet straightforward first defence, stuff dreams are made of, if they brought in an unknown eastern euro it would be for chump change.JimJim2009 wrote:Eubank's dad talked and bluffed his way into a WBO title fight with Nigel Benn and the rest is history. Interesting that people think it's either a Eubank knockout or a Saunders points.
