Wow different on footage, first 2 rounds are shared rounds and troy isn't even landing anything on ronnie, on night I thought he was landing punches in 2nd but both of them are cautious , ronnie caught troy with a beautiful uppercut in 2nd which wS best shot landed in the round, crowd are screaming when shots are not even close, although we won't get middle rounds ronnie felt he didn't win, I had ronnie dead cert winning 4 and 5 9 and 10, with seeing that dean does it make you see it closer or do you score 1 and 2 to troy? Not argument by way just a debate on it, result cannot change haha

bripez wrote:Just a general question (not specifically to this fight).

This sounds like it was a good fight, and I am sure that there are plenty of other similar fights happening that many boxing fans don't know about and will not see.

Is it not viable for the bigger promoters to put these competitive fights on their cards in front of a bigger audience and maybe even TV ?

I don't mean necessarily having a long term contract, but even on a one-off basis - then, if they get good feedback via social media etc. then some boxers could get signed to that promoter.

eg. if Eddie was looking for a competitive fight for one of his bills, could he think that looks like a good fight I will show that, or is it just too complicated to do that ?

Hopefully my question makes sense .....
I'd like to see this sort of thing happen, better than prospect v journeyman, 60-54, right down the undercard. Probably wasn't possible for this one to go onto a bigger show, but there's loads out there that are well worthy of TV coverage.

Yh I agree mate. the first couple rounds do look close on the video, but looked different on the night. I gave Ronnie round 5 on the night but looking at it again in the video I gave it to Troy,

Yh I could tell straight after that Ronnie knew he had not won, he contributed to it being a great competitive fight though, good lad he is, will defo come again, it's not the end, only a set back mate.

Hopefully I'm gonna try and get more footage lads :TU:

Class responses from both camps from what sounded like great, competitive fight, being from Dundee im gutted that Ronnie lost but i like Troy from what little ive seen and i wish him even more success due to the class of his team and hopefully they do it all over again when both are hitting their peak

Boxrec forums should have a lot more interaction between camps as it makes us fans feel part of it,im glad it was a good fight by all accounts as the build up on here bubbled away nicely

Good luck to James in his British title fight :salut:

First thing he said to me was that he thought he had nicked it!! I think he felt a bit uncomfortable when you started treating the cut but he defo thought he had done enough. Maybe its the way he reacted to that situation that made you think that.

Haha yh could of been mate, he's probably not used to people in opposite corner being professional and sportsman like I suppose so it took him back, I understand, but that's just me mate, that's why I popped in to wish him well afterwards too in the dressing room, I just saw it was a bad cut and no one had any swabs or adrenalin so thought I'd help rather than just leave it bleeding, my apologies to you both if you felt it out of turn :TU:

I said it at the start Ronnie was hitting the cleaner shots the video shows that.. Very good footage by the way.. Can see Troy mainly hits Ronnie's gloves hardly any point scoring shots in those first 6 rounds.. Rounds are tight but how can you give them to someone hitting nothing.. I think 1 and 2 are close but both to Ronnie(I only ha 1st round on the night) 3 close maybe Troy 4 and 5 deffo Ronnie and 6 close so Troy.. I know Ronnie won 9 and 10 on the night I think I gave Ronnie 7 and Troy 8 .. Very similar to the Walsh fight in that the crowd were clearly swaying the judges.. Only heard them when Troy was hitting Ronnie's Gloves.. Dean you need to get your boys sorted out sung by 25 of us haha

Haha Dean was that quick into the ring I had no chance, the next day max maxwell said to me why is there a swab in this bottle is it a trick i dont know.I told him big Dean was that desperate to have something to do and use his equipment he vaulted the ropes and pounced on my guy before id even got it out of the bottle.
Great little fight and the video thing im starting to put less and less to it.As i was in the corner hearing the thud and bang of shots saturday but occasionally i watched the big screen next to the ring and its actualy quite hocking how differnt it is.I will defo be slower to knock refs and judges who are there live when im watching it on tv in future.
I think the fight was in rounds 6 to 8 where Ronnie just seemed to slip into a low gear and stay there till round 9 when his cornerman gave him a telling off and injected some pace and urgency into him.
Good job btw way David and I do think troy defo deserved the win with a great display i think Ronnie will have got more out of that fight.Sounds strange but for me Troy is close to the finished article and hes had wins and losses and big fights so he practically where hes going to be,but ronnie hasnt been beat before so theresa lot of new experiances for him in this fight. and i think it will make him a better fighter and i think he will come on leaps and bounds from that fight.
If troy goes on to win the title which i think he is capable of and ronnie has a few educational ten rounders this is a fight that could go again and it would be hard to pick a winner if Ronnie learns from his loss the other night.
Two great lads a hard fight no real moaning afterwards and hopefully plenty more to come from both this is what boxing is all about

Seen all rounds barring 7,8 and 9 and honestly so different , ronnie genuinly slips away from it all and takes it all on the gloves and makes troy hit a lot of air by moving out the way while on the night i said ronnie jab was crisp and were the highest scoring shots in the round and mixing it up with chopping right hands and the uppercut, for me on the video shows just how close it was and could have went either way, would troy have walked away with a win for that in Scotland I don't think so, thing that took me is the 4 rounds I scored were defintly Ronald for me, with 1 and 2 close, uko boxing on Twitter telling people on Twitter that troy had won 9 rounds, unreal and shows how much they know about boxing, english fans along with scottish fans all knew it was close and nobody shocked with the split who were beside us

Haha you know me Jon, love the sight of a bit of blood, gets me excited, every chance to practise my skills haha.

On a serious note though, fully agree with all you wrote there, it was a perfect example like you've pointed out how different fights are live and different on a screen or video, and how if your not there you would argue with how judges see and score fights you watch at home.

Definitely Ronnie will come again, he's a good lad, and he will of learnt loads from it, great sportsmanship from all involved too, you hit the nail on the head, this is what our sport is all about

Lex moving to Australia and DIdnt really have the time to train ronnie and ronnie felt that a move to training just up in Aberdeen was the right move, for me David Mcallister has been superb in this camp, ronnie was in best shape IV seen him in, round 9 and 10 ronnie still had the fitness, he was strong and a massive difference in his defence in which he was not taking shots and they hit a lot of gloves in which has always been a problem for him, I look forward to seeing them do a few more camps and a few more learning fights and we'll see a stronger fighter, ronnie only had 8 amateur fights and shows he has a lot to offer!

It is not just a contest of who is the fittest.

It sounds as though James had the best gameplan, stuck to it and won.

Mate he had a game plan.. I thought Ronnie won watching the video that's even clearer than on the night. Ronnie is excellent in defence Troy barely gets a glove on him in those whole 6 rounds.. Crowd cheering shots that are either hitting gloves or missing unfortunately judges score that.. Troys game plan made all the rounds close. As I said right after it Ronnie's work is far cleaner his defence is good and he was picking off Troy.. I'm not too disappointed. Troy deserved the title shot and he gets that. Ronnie will now realise that he can't just do enough he needs to put fights out of doubt. I think that will be the best learning curve that he can get get.

I would like to echo what Jon and Dean have said. Judging is by far one of the hardest jobs.. That would be a horrible fight to judge. Some of the rounds are genuinely a toss of a coin 3 and 6 how can you even score either way. Even round 1 to a certain extent..

Haha nobody said it was a contest of who was the fittest did they! We worked loads of technique during the training camp and we tried to shore up his defence too but we only had weeks working together so nobody could expect everything to happen all at once.

I'm sure if you watch the footage posted earlier you will see that Ronnie was managing to outbox Troy for periods, there was no footage of Troy so it made it very hard to come up with a gameplan for his style! Troy is short but he boxed very well, showed good skills and at no point was he interested in having a tear up. It worked well on the night for Troy and the home crowd was definitely a factor imo.

i agree and I have said this before on here, I see so many fights where at least 1, maybe 2 or 3 rounds were genuinely either-way rounds, that (1) i can sympathise with scorers and (2) i can't quite, always, understand why people get up in arms over some cards which are actually only 1-2 swing rounds different to their own :TU:

What a great fight down Coventry and an amazing promotion by Les Allan... I really appreciate all input and am so happy it never turned into a slagging match ;) well ha maybe a little :p
Boxing is so difficult at times and although I never thought I done enough to win the fight, I also thought Troy never done enough either to win the fight! I was prepared for an all out war and Team Troy had the game plan to counter me making the fight very cagey... You guys done great with your game plan and deserved the win in your home town! Will for sure be a fight to happen again 100% :)

Thanks massively to my Team and Jon Pegg for being in my corner ;)
Also thanks to Dean Edwards for jumping the top rope to attend to my cut :p
